Qualitative study on the effects of the Knowledge and Liberal Arts program

    Get PDF
applicationIn April 2018, at the Fukuoka Institute of Technology, the Knowledge and Liberal Arts program was opened to all three majors in the new curriculum for liberal arts, featuring an interdisciplinary approach. In this subject, students acquire knowledge and discuss numerous problems, thereby fostering their intellectual curiosity by developing a broad and deep understanding of various themes. This study analyzes the effects of the Knowledge and Liberal Arts program with a focus on the development of beliefs about learning over four years of university life using a follow-up qualitative survey. A 60-minute interview was conducted with two senior students who took the course during their freshman year in 2018 to identify its contribution to their beliefs about learning. The results showed the following common experiences of both students: (1) the formation of a “new self” after entering university by unlearning and (2) expansion of learning mediated by communication with individuals in different networks. These are important insights for curriculum development in the liberal arts, which foster students’ fulfillment and success on a long-term basis.論文(article)othe

The effects of women local councilors’ percentage on the women’s working environment in councils

    Get PDF
This paper investigates why local councils do not improve the women’s working environment. One of the reasons is that there is a low percentage of women local councilors. In order to evaluate the working environment, we introduced an indicator which reflects (1) the availability of childcare facilities, (2) the availability of breastfeeding rooms, and (3) the implementation of sexual harassment training. The indicator revealed that the percentage of women councilors in the municipalities with populations of more than 500,000 and populations from 100,000 to 300,000 positively affected their working environment. The low percentage of women in councils is hindering the improvement of the working environment and is also related to the lack of improvement of the women’s working environment in society.論文(Article)departmental bulletin pape

A Love of Education and Sense of Mission in the Educational Thought of Morohashi Tetuji, Obara Kuniyoshi, and Sumeragi Shido A guide to teacher’s recognition, acquisition, and embodiment of Article 9, Paragraph 1 of the Fundamental Law of Education

A love of education and a sense of mission for education, which are inextricably linked, are, of course, immutable human qualities required of teachers in any age. In addition, a love of education and a sense of mission for education are the source of a strong and flexible mentality that is solid and unshakable, needed teachers in today’s uncertain and difficult times. This article, as a guide to teachre’s recognition, acquisition, and embodiment of Article 9, Paragraph 1 of the Fundamental Law of Education, discusses a love of education and a sense of mission for education in the famous educational philosophies of three people, i.e, Morohashi Tetuji, Obara Kuniyoshi, and Sumeragi Shido.論文(Article)departmental bulletin pape

Cell Culture on Anisotropic Gel Films of Liquid Crystalline Nanosheet/Polymer Nanocomposite

    Get PDF
application/pdfThe techniques to assemble cells into desired integrated shapes, that is known as 'tissue engineering', is important for regenerative therapies. Especially, anisotropic structure formation is key for many applications. Here, anisotropic nanocomposite hydrogel film that consist of liquid crystalline fluorohectorite nanosheets and poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (pNIPAm) was investigated as the cell culture medium. Melanoma cells cultured on a glass plate or a polystyrene plate possessed spherical shape with the size of around 10 ȝm, which is generally found for melanoma cells. In contrast, the melanoma cells cultured on the pNIPAm and FHT/pNIPAm composite hydrogels possessed elongated shapes with the length of more than 50 ȝm, indicating strong adhesion to the gel. Based on the present results, future development of a facile tissue engineering technique for anisotropic cell assembly is expected.論文(Atticle)departmental bulletin pape

Visual Inspection of Sheep Gut Diameter, Which Changes Appearance

    Get PDF
application/pdfThe diameters of sheep gut handled should be measured using image processing at factories. However the appearance of the sheep gut to be measured changes depending on the water flowing inside the intestine. Therefore, we checked the tendency of the visual diameter to change due to flowing water and found that the smaller the actual diameter of the sheep intestine, the greater the shrinkage of the visual diameter. Comparing the estimated diameter with the actual measurement, the RMSE was 0.95 mm, achieving the accuracy goal of 1 mm. Therefore, we concluded that it was effective for practical use.論文(Atticle)departmental bulletin pape

Active Learning Using Blending Digital and Analog Teaching Materials - Utilization of the Digital Materials by BYOD -

    Get PDF
applicationThe paper describes the practice of original bland-type active learning (AL) class with BYOD. Students study with digital material on LMS in advance and analog material in AL class. The AL class consists of a short explanation by a teacher for 20 minutes and a long drill with group work for 70 minutes. As the results tudent motivation and voluntary study increases though the AL class study. Furthermore, teacher’s load decreases by this AL method and student class supporters. This teaching method is useful for higher learning effectiveness in digital transformation (DX) education.論文(article)othe

Proposal of Voltage Stress Reduction Method in Underwater Shockwave Generation

    Get PDF
application/pdfIn this paper, a low-cost and safe non-thermal food processing technology is presented for shockwave nonthermal food processing. Unlike the conventional system, the proposed system employs multiple large output capacitors with low withstand voltage characteristics to generate underwater shockwaves, where the multiple output capacitors are charged at low voltage. For this reason, safe and low-cost non-thermal food processing is achieved by the proposed system. To confirm the feasibility of the proposed technique, some experiments are conducted on the experimental prototype of the proposed system. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed system with a 3300 μF capacitor can process apples at the output voltage 865 V.論文(Atticle)departmental bulletin pape

Maglev System for Non-Contact Stable Support of Flexible Steel Plate -Analytical Consideration on Levitation System using Gravity-

    Get PDF
application/pdfGenerally, flexible steel plates are transported by rollers. However, the contact between the roller and steel plate degrades the surface quality. One of the solutions to the problems is the non-contact transport system by magnetic levitation using electromagnetic force. However, flexible steel plate is easy to fall by deflection. Therefore, in this paper, magnetic levitation system by changing direction of flexible steel plate was proposed for decreasing the deflection of steel plate. Moreover, characteristics of attractive force for flexible steel plate was investigated by magnetic field analysis. The results suggested that flexible steel plate is levitated by realizable coil current condition.論文(Atticle)departmental bulletin pape

Implementation and Evaluation of a Disaster Response Suggestion System

    Get PDF
application/pdfIn this study, I conducted experiments of a disaster information acquisition method using a content centric network and moving routers, and verified the usefulness of information acquisition by using moving routers and caches in the event of a natural disaster. In a field experiment using moving routers by constructing a small-scale network assuming a local natural disaster, I measured the data acquisition time of disaster information acquired from the publisher and cache. In addition, in a simulation experiment by constructing a large-scale network assuming a wide-area natural disaster, I measured the average number of hops and the average data download time. As a result, this study showed the usefulness of information acquisition in cache utilization in both field experiments and simulations.論文(Atticle)departmental bulletin pape

Teaching Practices for Nurturing Learners’ Autonomous Learning Attitudes

    Get PDF
applicationUnder the university-wide Faculty Development policies for 2021, our university's Center for Liberal Arts conducted original workshops three times during the 2021-22 academic year. Five teachers gave presentations about what they did in the classroom to nurture learners' autonomous learning attitudes. The topics covered how to raise learners' motivation, practical ways to set up assignments, and how to increase students' ownership in learning. In each workshop, articipants exchanged opinions on what teachers can or should do to facilitate learners' autonomy, and this provided the participants with new insights toward teaching.論文(article)othe
