Vaizdinių galia: vaizdinė vietinių Ukrainos SSR laikraščių kalba XX a. 4-ojo dešimtmečio pradžioje

Along with textual articles, the local press of the Ukrainian SSR in the early 1930s often contained visual elements, which, despite their poor quality, had enormous propagandistic potential. These newspapers were predominantly targeted at the rural population and communicated with their audience in a direct and prescriptive manner. Moreover, because of strong censorship, they were never illustrated by images that would reflect the actual socio-economic problems and thus compromise the Soviet regime. Therefore, the aim of this article is to define the major types of images that were published in the raion (i.e., province) level newspapers of the Ukrainian SSR and explore the messages they conveyed. In particular, by using the animal code and referring to well-known idioms, caricatures shaped the image of both domestic (‘kulaks’, priests, etc.) and foreign (Western capitalist countries) enemies. In contrast, numerous portraits of the communist chiefs and the most productive workers, both male and female, constructed the gallery of role models for the readers. At the same time, the basis of the newspapers’ visual content was the staged group portraits and photographs of people at work and industrial landscapes, depicting an idealized ‘communist paradise’ – a pseudo-reality of rapid and successful economic changes. The newspapers also utilized the images of Soviet and Western weapons and/or military personnel, trying to keep the readers in a state of readiness for possible military aggression without simultaneously causing panic. In addition, monumental, complex, and multi-layered illustrations, similar to traditional political posters, were often included in the press issues devoted to the State holidays. Many of them featured the images of a perfect Soviet man or woman, and embodied the greatness of the USSR. Finally, the emotional, simple, and straightforward visual language of the Ukrainian SSR raion press aimed to mobilize the population for selfless work “in favor of their socialist Motherland” and actively support the Soviet Government’s policies.XX a. 4-ojo dešimtmečio pradžioje Ukrainos SSR vietinė spauda, be tekstinių straipsnių, dažnai spausdindavo vizualinius elementus, kurie, nepaisant prastos kokybės, turėjo didžiulį propagandinį potencialą. Be to, monumentalios, sudėtingos ir daugiasluoksnės iliustracijos, primenančios tradicinius politinius plakatus, dažnai buvo įtraukiamos į spaudos leidinius, skirtus valstybiniams minėjimams.

In the last decade of the 19th century, as the national consciousness was growing, the need for grammars of the Lithuanian language increased. Students, who were a particularly active group in society at the time, took it upon themselves to meet this need. Povilas Jakubėnas, Pranciškus Vanagas and Romualdas Žakevičius, who were studying in Dorpat (now Tartu, Estonia), hectographed Lietùviškas Kalbomõkslis (Lithuanian Grammar), a conspectus of the lectures on the Lithuanian language by Kazimieras Jaunius, which were delivered at the Samogitian (Telšiai) Priest Seminary (based in Kaunas) in 1885–1892. Under the conditions of the ban of Lithuanian press in Latin characters, hectograph became a favoured way of publishing. The object of this research is the surviving copies of the hectographed Lietuviškas kalbomokslis by Kazimieras Jaunius. There are several goals: to clarify the history of the hectographing of this work, to identify and describe the surviving copies, and to assess their functioning in the late 19th century and early 20th century. To achieve these goals, first of all, the surviving copies were examined de visu, their condition and binding were assessed, and a comparative analysis was performed. In order to research the functioning of Lietuviškas kalbomokslis, the provenances of the copies were determined, and the manuscript notes, corrections, and other marks left by readers were analysed. Their analysis allows us to assess the dissemination and significance of this work at the end of the 19th century, during the period of the formation of Standard Lithuanian. In addition, the errors noted by readers could be useful in search for the unidentified protograph of Lietuviškas kalbomokslis – i.e., the manuscript conspectus that was hectographed.XIX a. paskutiniuoju dešimtmečiu, stiprėjant tautiniam sąmoningumui, išaugo lietuvių kalbos gramatikų poreikis. Patenkinti šį poreikį ėmėsi tuo metu ypač aktyvi visuomenės grupė – studentai. Dorpate (dab. Tartu) studijavę Povilas Jakubėnas, Pranciškus Vanagas ir Romualdas Žakevičius hektografavo Kazimiero Jauniaus lietuvių kalbos paskaitų, skaitytų Žemaičių (Telšių) kunigų seminarijoje Kaune 1885–1892 m., konspektus – Lietùvišką Kalbomõkslį. Spaudos lotyniškais rašmenimis draudimo sąlygomis hektografavimas tapo parankiu publikavimo būdu.Šio tyrimo objektas – išlikę hektografuoto Jauniaus Lietuviško kalbomokslio egzemplioriai, saugomi Lietuvos atminties institucijose. Tikslai keli: patikslinti šio darbo hektografavimo istoriją, nustatyti ir aprašyti išlikusius egzempliorius, įvertinti jų funkcionavimą XIX a. pabaigoje ir XX a. pradžioje. Siekiant šių tikslų pirmiausia de visu apžiūrėti visi išlikę egzemplioriai, įvertinta būklė, įrišas, atlikta lyginamoji analizė. Lietuviško kalbomokslio funkcionavimui ištirti nustatytos egzempliorių proveniencijos, analizuoti rankraštiniai prierašai, taisymai, kitos skaitytojų paliktos žymos. Jų analizė leidžia įvertinti šio darbo sklaidą ir reikšmingumą XIX a. pabaigoje, lietuvių bendrinės kalbos kūrimosi laikotarpiu. Be to, skaitytojų pažymėtos klaidos galėtų pasitarnauti ieškant iki šiol nenustatyto Lietuviško kalbomokslio protografo – konspektų, kurie buvo hektografuoti

Rationale. Solving combinatorial optimization problems by means of heuristic optimization algorithms is a highly important area of computational intelligence as well as artificial intelligence. Methodology. This paper presents empirical (computational) results obtained through experiments with a descent-ascent (D-A) principle-based heuristic optimization algorithm, primarily designed for solving combinatorial optimization problems. The descent-ascent algorithm—referred to briefly in this way—has its origins in the local search paradigm. A distinctive feature is that the minimization of the objective function of an optimization problem (i.e., descent) is combined with certain perturbations of solutions (i.e., ascents) to avoid a greedy/deterministic search behavior and, at the same time, premature convergence to suboptimal local optima. Results. The experiments conducted with this algorithm and the results obtained demonstrate a relatively high level of algorithmic efficiency in solving the well-known combinatorial problem—the quadratic assignment problem. Practical relevance of the research. The problem is well relevant in such areas as the the green economy, next-generation industry, digital transformation, renewable energy, sustainable logistics systems, and other socio-technical and information management contexts.Pagrindimas.

The Catechism by Merkelis Petkevičius\u27 (hereinafter - PC), published in 1598, i.e. only three years after the first book in Lithuanian in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, has been relatively scarcely researched up to now. J. Kruopas, who contributed most to the research on M. Petkevičius\u27 Catechism, compiled a dictionary of PC. The goal of J. Kruopas was not to investigate the origin of the borrowed words in PC; however, the origin of foreign words is noted. For the same reason, the origin of the loanwords is not argued, and the sources of the loanwords are not provided. This article aims to identify loanwords in the PC that came from Eastern Slavic languages, such as Ruthenian or Old Russian, and to present them together with their exact equivalents in the donor languages. To achieve this goal, all words with an obviously borrowed root were selected from M. Petkevičius\u27 Catechism. The examined words are generalised, i.e., prefix-derived words are not counted if the meaning of the word is modified only by the prefix. The collected words were compared with words in Slavic languages, based on dictionaries of Slavic languages from the relevant period, in order to find possible equivalents. Based on various criteria for determining the origin of loanwords, Slavisms, Polonisms, and loanwords from the East Slavic language group of uncertain origin were identified. This article presents those loanwords from Ruthenian or Old Russian whose origin is certain or subject to minimal doubt. The origin of the loanwords presented in the article has been determined based on several criteria that quite reliably indicate the donor language of the loanword. In general, the exact origin of a Slavic loanword can be determined when only one Slavic language (only Polish or only Ruthenian, Old Russian) attests to the possible source of the loanword (the criterion of available equivalents). Another informative criterion involves various phonological processes in Slavic languages and Lithuanian. The latter criterion covers a relatively large number of phenomena, and on this basis, 68 loanwords have been identified that came into the Lithuanian language from Ruthenian or Old Russian. Based on the criterion of the existence of a source, only nine Slavisms have been identified.

The article discusses the processes of the outset of the local governance in the First Republic of Lithuania which extended to small Lithuanian towns and frequently became the epicenter of election commotions. It was the smaller towns where local governance structures of volosts were established. They ensured stability and continuity of the social, economic and cultural life of volost residents. Small-town residents became immediate participants of election processes and witnesses of the ongoing election clashes. Election practices initially differed, yet, later on they were improved. They involved the lion’s share of small-town residents who had to ‘fast-track’ learn the basic practices of the political self-expression routine. The article also investigates how the elected town residents would become the elite of the volost governance and considers whether this was a highly complex process.Straipsnyje aptariami Vasario 16-osios Lietuvos vietos savivaldos pradžios procesai, apėmę ir Lietuvos miestelius, kurie dažnai tapdavo rinkiminių peripetijų centrais. Juose kūrėsi valsčių vietos savivaldos struktūros, užtikrinusios valsčiaus gyventojų socialinio, ekonominio ir kultūrinio gyvenimo stabilumą ir tęstinumą. Miestelėnai tapo betarpiškais rinkimų procesų dalyviais ir vykstančių rinkiminių batalijų liudininkais. Skirtingos, o vėliau tobulinamos rinkiminės praktikos tiesiogiai įtraukė didžiąją dalį miestelėnų, „greituoju būdu“ įsisavinusių politinės saviraiškos pradžiamokslį. Aptariamas ir išrinktųjų miestelėnų tapimas valsčių savivaldos elitu bei šio proceso komplikuotumas

Peržengiant ribas: baltarusiškų žemių miestiečių socialinis mobilumas (XIX a. septintas dešimtmetis–XX a. pradžia)

The article analyzes the process of social mobility among the urban commoners (meshchane) of Belarusian lands, which was significantly influenced by the socio-economic, political, ethno-confessional, and cultural development in the region in the second half of the 19th to the early 20th centuries. The study examines the trajectories and scope of social mobility, tracing their evolution from the social reforms of the 1860s to the outbreak of the First World War. Vertical social mobility was associated with the transition to more privileged social categories (nobles, clergy, honorary citizens, merchants, etc.) and increased throughout the period. Downward mobility was linked to marginalization, criminalization and, consequently, the loss of all estate rights. Opportunities for horizontal mobility were limited by the passport system, the requirement to obtain permission to leave the estate corporation (meshchanskoye obshchestvo), and residence restrictions for Jews within the Jewish Pale of Settlement. The legislative foundations of the estate division of society, which persisted until the end of the Russian Empire, were in contradiction with the emergence of new social groups and the actual stratification of society, which depended on other – primarily economic – factors.Straipsnyje analizuojamas baltarusiškų žemių miestiečių socialinis mobilumas, kuriam didelę įtaką darė socioekonominė, politinė, etnokonfesinė ir kultūrinė regiono raida XIX a. antrojoje pusėje–XX a. pradžioje.
