A Fifth Metatarsal Fracture or a Rare Anatomical Variant?: A Report of Two Cases of Symptomatic Os Vesalianum Pedis and a Review of the Literature

    No full text
Background: Accessory bones of the foot are common anatomical variants, with Os Vesalianum Pedis (OVP) representing a rare example located near the base of the fifth metatarsal within the peroneus brevis tendon. Although typically asymptomatic, OVP can become painful following trauma and may be misdiagnosed as a fracture, leading to inappropriate management.Case presentation: We present two cases of symptomatic OVP in patients who reported lateral foot pain after acute ankle inversion injuries. Following radiological evaluation at a regional polyclinic, both patients were initially diagnosed with fractures of the fifth metatarsal base and referred to a traumatologist. However, further physical examination and detailed review of previous radiographs, revealing well-corticated, smoothly contoured ossicles, led to the correct diagnosis of OVP. Both patients were treated conservatively with rest, ice, elevation, physiotherapy, and NSAIDs, achieving complete functional recovery within three weeks. Conclusions: These cases highlight the importance of recognizing OVP as a potential cause of lateral foot pain after trauma. Accurate diagnosis based on imaging characteristics can prevent mismanagement. Conservative treatment remains highly effective, and awareness of OVP is essential for appropriate clinical decision-making

In the age of immeasurable amounts of information, with the rapid spread of modern information solutions and ongoing search for new forms of information transfer, the design of content is changed and entangled in various kinds of emotions. One of the most commonly used techniques is dramatization, which aims to provoke a strong emotional response from the viewer. However, in the contemporary media landscape characterized by disinformation and manipulation, this phenomenon is emerging as a cause for concern.

Perceptions of Inclusive Leadership and Its Implications for Achieving Socio-Educational Performance

    No full text
Inclusive leadership has become a key paradigm in contemporary educational management, promoting equity, collaboration, and responsiveness to diversity. This study investigates how inclusive leadership is perceived and applied by educational leaders in the Romanian K-12 education system, while focusing on both operational leaders (teachers) and strategic leaders (principals and school inspectors). Based on a cross-sectional, non-probabilistic sample of 296 respondents, the research employed a quantitative methodology, including descriptive statistics, independent samples t-tests, multiple linear regression, and k-means cluster analysis. These methods were used to examine differences in perceptions, the influence of managerial experience and training, and the level of acceptance of inclusive leadership practices. The findings reveal significant perceptual gaps between teachers and strategic leaders, especially regarding the importance of concrete actions associated with inclusive leadership. While formal training and managerial seniority had no significant effect on acceptance levels, a critical relationship has been identified between awareness of implementation challenges and a reduced enthusiasm for the model. The study proposes a typology of three leadership profiles, specifically, practical, strategic, and adaptive, and emphasizes the need for differentiated professional development strategies tailored to each profile. These results contribute to a better understanding of how inclusive leadership can be more effectively embedded in diverse educational contexts through systemic support, reflective practice, and policy alignment

A Narrative on Experiences of a Couple with Physical Disabilities in the Adoption Process

    No full text
The article analyses the experiences of the couple with physical disabilities in the adoption process, their feelings in encountering infertility problems, the society’s attitude towards persons with physical disabilities, their stigmatisation. The paper presents the results of the research on adoption experiences of persons with physical disabilities. The obtained results demonstrate that the couple with physical disabilities encounters a medical approach to persons with mobility disabilities. The research has revealed that persons with physical disabilities encounter negative attitudes of healthcare professionals in the adoption process and that the approach of these professionals often lacks tolerance and respect. Based on the research, it was found that the couple with physical disabilities had unfounded fears and doubts about the adoption team’s attitude towards their disability. However, it should be emphasised that professionalism and non-stereotypical approach of the adoption team ensure equal opportunities of the couple with physical disabilities to take part in training, discussions and workshops. Courts also do not emphasise the physical disability as an obstacle in the adoption process. Research data shows that adoptive parents with physical disabilities feel anxious and are aware of the challenges that may arise as their child grows up in relation to society’s view on them as parents with physical disabilities

Bifurcation analysis of a Leslie–Gower predator–prey system with fear effect and constant-type harvesting

    No full text
This paper investigates the effect of fear effect and constant-type harvesting on the dynamic of a Leslie–Gower predator–prey model. Initially, an analysis is carried out to identify all potential equilibria and evaluate their stability. Furthermore, the dynamic behavior at these points is examined, revealing various bifurcations such as saddle-node bifurcation, Hopf bifurcation, and Bogdanov-Takens bifurcation. In particular, the model undergoes a degenerate Hopf bifurcation, which leads to the existence of two limit cycles. Additionally, we demonstrate that the Bogdanov–Takens bifurcation of codimension 2 occurs in this model. Ultimately, these findings are validated through numerical simulations, demonstrating that continuous harvesting or the significant fear effect is not conducive to either predator or prey surviving

An advanced visualization of self-organizing maps by determining data clusters

    No full text
This paper proposes a novel approach to improve the visualization capabilities of self-organizing maps and facilitate the identification of the resulting clusters. Unlike other clustering algorithms, self-organizing maps lack the feature to select a predefined number of clusters, and the boundaries of the clusters are not explicitly represented on the self-organizing maps. The main advantage of our proposed approach is that the option for selecting the desired number of clusters has been implemented. The experimental investigation was performed using four datasets with different characteristics. The improved visualization leverages various similarity distances to assess their impact on performance. The effectiveness of the novel approach to clustering results has been compared with those of the well-known k-means and hierarchical clustering methods, which allow for the selection of the desired number of clusters. Additionally, the visualization results, obtained by the proposed approach, were compared with those produced using the Orange Data Mining tool, where the u-matrix is applied to visualize a self-organizing map. The advantage of our approach compared to the u-matrix visualization has been highlighted in this paper. The performance of clustering algorithms has been measured by calculating the ratio of data items correctly assigned to clusters in the case when the clusters are predefined in the analyzed dataset. The results obtained showed that the most effective similarity distances are the cosine and correlation distances, which help to detect the correctly predefined clusters in the visualization of self-organizing maps

Who Can Publish Decolonized Ethnography and Cultural Theory with the Anger it Deserves? Unclassified Lloronas and the Academic Text

    No full text
Gloria Anzaldúa’s autohistoria-teoria presents subaltern theorization and autoethnography as testimony. Nevertheless, subaltern women anthropologists from the Global South are not part of the North American ‘woman of color’ classification of Latinas, African-Americans, and Asians. They are therefore expected to use the U.S.-U.K. formula of dispassionate (post)colonial scholarship. The underlying assumption for the unclassified woman ethnographer from the Global South is that she comes from her country’s cosmopolitan elite. She is therefore required to deploy the detached Northern social science language. This paper calls academic publishers to remove the elite label from the unclassified Women-of-Color authorship, and publish them in the decolonized, emotive Anzaldúa auto-ethnography of bearing witness

Conceptualizing ‘Children’ across Age Groups in Lithuania: A Preliminary Account Using Free List Tasks

    No full text
A variety of economic, personal and social reasons may have influenced Lithuanians changing attitudes toward having children, which has been causing a significant fertility decline since the early 1990s. The conceptions one has about children may affect the decision to have or not to have children. By applying a bottom-up anthropological research design, this paper aims to examine the relationship between social contexts and cultural norms as they influence the way people of different generations conceptualize children. The results of the study reveal that the conceptions one has about children are subject to change. This change can be influenced either by real life experiences of raising one’s own children, by observing others raising their children, or by other socially, culturally or psychologically motivated reasons. Hence, the shift in the perception of ‘children’ over the life cycle is the focus of this paper
