Искусственный интеллект как волшебный помощник в романе В. Пелевина «iPhuck 10»

    No full text
The article examines the representation of artificial intelligence in Viktor Pelevin’s novel iPhuck 10 through the archetype of the ‘magical helper’ as conceptualized by Vladimir Propp. The AI Porfiry Petrovich, portrayed as both a police and literary algorithm, assumes in the narrative the role of the magical helper to the protagonist Mara. His image is connected with mythological and literary archetypes, while the digital space is interpreted as an otherworldly dimension. The study also explores parallels between artificial intelligence and shamanism, emphasizing the ironic reinterpretation of the ‘divinized tool’ archetype. It analyzes the motifs of initiation, death, and the protagonist’s rebirth within the plaster-digital world. Ultimately, the article demonstrates how Pelevin merges the mythological canon with modern technology, crafting a hybrid text situated at the intersection of detective fiction, noir, and fairy-tale traditions.

Lietuviškojo popromano atvejis: Jurgos Ivanauskaitės romanas Mėnulio vaikai vokiškosios Popliteratur kontekste

    No full text
This article analyzes Jurga Ivanauskaitė’s novel Children of the Moon (1988) by applying the theoretical principles of German Popliteratur. Drawing on insights from Moritz Baßler, Carsten Gansel, and other theorists, the study examines four main aesthetic strategies: the poetics of archiving, self-staging (Selbstinszenierung), fixation of the present, and post-adolescent rituals. The analysis reveals that the novel demonstrates essential features of Popliteratur – notably, cataloguing cultural artifacts, constructing identity through performative roles, documenting generational Zeitgeist, and depicting ‘post-adolescent’ rebellion against societal norms. The novel’s characters, suspended between adolescence and adulthood, create alternative initiation rituals, which are often self-destructive in nature. The late Soviet context imbues these strategies with distinctive content: cultural capital replaces consumer culture, while the playful approach to identity transforms into an existential practice of resistance. The article demonstrates that the Popliteratur concept allows for avoiding the dichotomous evaluation characteristic of the traditional Lithuanian criticism and offers a productive analytical approach to Lithuanian popular literature studies.Straipsnyje, pasitelkiant vokiškosios Popliteratur teorinius principus, analizuojamas Jurgos Ivanauskaitės romanas Mėnulio vaikai (1988). Remiantis Moritzo Baßlerio, Carsteno Ganselio ir kitų teoretikų įžvalgomis, tiriamos keturios pagrindinės estetinės strategijos: archyvavimo poetika, savęs inscenizavimas, dabartiškumo fiksavimas ir postpaauglystės ritualai. Analizė atskleidžia, kad romanui būdingi esminiai Popliteratur bruožai: kultūrinių artefaktų katalogavimas, tapatybės konstravimas per performatyvius vaidmenis, kartos Zeitgeist dokumentavimas ir „postpaauglių“ maištas prieš visuomenės normas. Romano personažai, įstrigę tarp paauglystės ir suaugusiųjų pasaulio, kuria alternatyvius iniciacijos ritualus, dažnai savidestrukcinius. Vėlyvojo sovietmečio kontekstas suteikia šioms strategijoms savitą turinį ‒ vartojimo kultūros vietą užima kultūrinis kapitalas, o žaidybinis santykis su tapatybe transformuojasi į egzistencinę pasipriešinimo praktiką. Straipsnyje parodoma, kad Popliteratur koncepcija leidžia išvengti tradicinės lietuvių kritikos dichotomiško vertinimo ir siūlo lietuvių populiariosios literatūros tyrimams produktyvią analitinę prieigą

Užduotimis grindžiamo kalbos mokymo (UGKM) metodikos potencialas mokant(is) sudėtingos morfologijos svetimųjų kalbų

The acquisition of morphosyntactic structures represents one of the most significant challenges for second language (L2) learners, particularly in languages with complex morphological systems, such as Lithuanian. The intricacy of these systems, coupled with the abundance of morphemes, further complicates the learning process for L2 students. Although task-based language teaching (TBLT) has been recognized as an effective methodology for L2 instruction, limited research has explored its applicability to languages characterized by high morphological complexity. A prevailing assumption suggests that TBLT may be unsuitable for such languages, particularly at the beginner stages (Kogan & Bondarenko, 2022, pp. 78–79). Nonetheless, this perspective calls for further scrutiny. This paper aims to contribute to the ongoing discourse by examining how to design effective instructional tasks across proficiency levels for teaching morphologically complex L2s while adhering to all the TBLT principles.Morfosintaksinių konstrukcijų įsisavinimas dažnai laikomas vienu sudėtingiausių iššūkių svetimosios kalbos (K2) mokiniams. Ypač šis iššūkis ryškėja mokant(is) kalbų, pasižyminčių sudėtinga morfologija, tokių kaip lietuvių kalba. Dėl sistemos sudėtingumo bei morfemų gausos, morfosintaksinių konstrukcijų įsisavinimas mokiniams tampa dar labiau komplikuotas. Nors užduotimis grindžiamo kalbos mokymo(si) (UGKM) prieiga pripažįstama perspektyvia K2 mokymo(si) metodika, tyrimų, kurie būtų leidę išsiaiškinti, kaip ši metodika galėtų pasitarnauti mokant(is) ir morfologiškai sudėtingų kalbų, vis dar yra nedaug, linkstama manyti, kad UGKM vis dėlto netinka tokioms kalboms, ypač pradiniame etape (Kogan & Bondarenko, 2022: 78-79). Tačiau toks nusistatymas kelia ir pagrįstų abejonių. Šio straipsnio tikslas – pristatyti UGKM prieigos teorinius pagrindus ir aptarti, kaip laikantis visų UGKM principų kurti skirtingų lygių užduotis, kurios veiksmingai mokytų sudėtingos morfologijos svetimųjų kalbų

Verses in Motion: exploring sport in Polish and American poetry

    No full text
Sport has long been a subject of interest for writers from all over the world. As early as ancient Greek society, athletes who excelled in different sports disciplines were celebrated, a practice that also manifested in written form. This also concerns poets, inspired by the glories and shadows of sporting rivalry, noting its beauty and deep symbolism. The objective of this article was to examine (through historical examples and literary analysis) the phenomenon of sports poetry, a subject that has received scant attention from the research community thus far. The exploration focused on the literature of two countries – Poland and the United States, with a particular emphasis on the works of poets who perceive significant potential in sporting competition, such as – among others – Kazimierz Wierzyński, Krzysztof Zuchora, William Carlos Williams or William Heyen. The research methodology encompassed an examination of numerous volumes of poetry, perusal of publications (books and articles) dedicated to the presence of sport in literature, and an extensive review of the history of sport and literature. The findings show that sports poetry is still alive and remains an important – though academically neglected – segment of literature, embedding sport in the cultural sphere

Deminutyvų kategorija lietuvių kalboje: nuo mažo iki ironiško. Balio Sruogos „Dievų miško“ deminutyvai ir jų vertimas į anglų kalbą

    No full text
The paper proposes a new approach to the productive polysemous category of diminutive derivatives in Lithuanian. Drawing on the works of cognitive linguistics, the multiple senses of the diminutive are interpreted with reference to the family-resemblance principle. Small size is treated as the prototypical sense, which gives rise to other senses, such as a short period of time, affection, depreciation, etc. Many senses are motivated by metaphor, metonymy, and other mechanisms. The ironic sense is different in that, in each case, it emerges in context through juxtaposition of propositional and intentional frames. Irony is seen as an extension of any of the above senses. The realisation of the ironic sense is analysed in the first ten sections of the novel “Forest of the Gods” by the Lithuanian writer Balys Sruoga and its translation into English, a language known for its limited inventory of derivational diminutives. In the majority of cases, the English translation seems to favour non-diminutive words.

Analyzing the Influence of Sustainability Benefits on Chilean Consumers’ Intentions to Purchase Refurbished Smartphones

    No full text
This study examines the willingness of Chilean consumers to buy refurbished smartphones and how various benefits associated with these products, including sustainability advantages, influence their decision-making processes. Utilizing the consumer acceptance model for refurbished smartphones, data was collected through personal interviews with 190 consumers in a shopping mall setting. The findings indicate that the intention of Chilean consumers to purchase refurbished products is primarily driven by their subjective evaluations of perceived product value and risk as well as their positive brand evaluations. However, environmental concerns did not significantly impact purchase intentions. The study discusses both the theoretical and practical implications of these findings. By identifying enablers and barriers to sustainable consumption among Chilean consumers, our study complements research on the sustainability marketing of refurbished products in emerging markets. Furthermore, it adds to the literature on the evolution of circular economy approaches in emerging markets such as Chile, which differ in both socio-economic and cultural terms from more developed markets
