Investigating the Impact of Leadership Styles on Finance and Accounting Specialists’ Performance

    No full text
This study examined the impact of leadership styles (transformational, transactional, and democratic) on finance and accounting specialists’ productivity and commitment in selected deposit money banks in Akure, Ondo State, Nigeria. The study employed a cross-sectional survey approach. Data was collected from 179 employees through structured questionnaires. The findings revealed that transactional and transformational leadership styles significantly enhance employee productivity; democratic leadership did not show a significant impact on productivity. In terms of employee commitment, transactional and transformational leadership were again found to be significant predictors, while democratic leadership showed no significant effect. The study concludes that transactional and transformational leadership styles are essential for enhancing employee productivity and commitment in the banking sector. It recommends that deposit money banks focus on developing these leadership capabilities through targeted training programs. This study contributes to the existing literature by providing empirical evidence on the effectiveness of different leadership styles on finance and accounting specialists’ performance. This offers insights for both scholars and practitioners in the field of organizational leadership

The Role of the Underground Economy in the Oil Wealth-Growth Nexus: New Insight from Nigeria

    No full text
Research on the relationship between oil wealth and economic growth has shown that the impact of oil can depend on various factors or conditions. However, the role of the underground economy in this relationship remains underexplored. This study aims to fill this gap by examining how the underground economy influences the oil wealth-growth nexus in Nigeria from 1990 to 2022, using the bootstrap autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) bounds-testing technique. The empirical findings reveal that the effect of oil wealth on economic growth varies with the size of the underground economy. Specifically, the results indicate that the marginal impact of oil wealth on growth is positive when the underground economy is relatively small, but becomes negative as the underground economy expands. This suggests that the underground economy serves as a channel through which oil wealth negatively affects long-term economic growth. The economic implication of this finding is that for sustained long-term growth, increases in oil wealth must be accompanied by significant efforts to reduce the size of the underground economy

The Impact of Corruption and Financial Inclusion Interaction on Poverty in Africa’s Most Unbanked Nations

    No full text
Financial inclusion (FI) has been widely advocated as a means of improving poor economic possibilities, smoothing investments and savings, and providing a safety net against economic shocks. Despite the empirical evidence supporting the benefits of FI on poverty reduction, less attention has been paid to the role of control of corruption (CRR) on FI and poverty nexus. We evaluate the influence of CRR on the FI–poverty relation in Africa’s most unbanked nations (i.e. Egypt, Kenya, Morocco, Nigeria, and South Africa) from 2004 to 2022. Using panel regressions such as DOLS and FMOLS estimators, the results portray that FI is more effective in reducing poverty at greater CRR, whereas FI has the opposite effect at the least CRR. Other core drivers of poverty include GDP per capita growth, inflation, and money supply. The coefficients of the variables of interest (i.e. financial inclusion, control of corruption, and their interaction) show consistency in terms of size, signs, and significance, suggesting robustness in the results. Thus, Africa’s governments and relevant authorities are advised to control corruption to ensure effective poverty reduction impact of financial inclusion. This will guarantee that intended groups receive the benefits of financial inclusion, leading to poverty reduction

Through Sadness to Sustainability: How Meaning Threat Sparks Sustainable Consumption

    No full text
Prior research has highlighted that negative emotions have motivational features toward positive changes; however, findings are mixed and rather limited when it comes to the consumption domain. The present research expands existing perspectives on the motivational role of the negative emotion of sadness, which serves as a mechanism directed toward preventing losses in the future. With our research, we offer evidence that exposure to a meaning threat increases sadness. Moreover, the current research shows the direct effect of meaning threat on sustainable consumption. Most importantly, we demonstrate the mediating role of sadness and test this underlying process with different sustainable products. Theoretical and managerial implications are discussed, along with suggestions for future research

Veiksmažodžių diskutuoti, disputuoti valentingumas dabartinėje lietuvių kalboje

    No full text
The object of this article are the verbs diskutuoti (eng. discuss) and disputuoti (eng. dispute). The aim is to investigate their combinability from the perspective of valency, using the data from the Corpus of Contemporary Lithuanian Language (CCLL). The 600 examples analyzed, which include different forms of the verb diskutuoti and the verb disputuoti from the CCLL and the Internet, reveal the similarities and differences in the syntactic and semantic valency of these verbs.Recognizing that meanings have no strict boundaries, and considering that the meaning of a predicate becomes clear in a sentence and that the semantic structure of a sentence represents a certain interpretation of a situation, the verb diskutuoti have several meanings in the aspect of valence: ‘1. to exchange opinions and points of view in a conversation, discussion, to share opinions, points of view’, ‘2. to have an opinion, an view on a certain issue, topic’, ‘3. to talk argumentativily, to argue, to disagree, to reach an agreement on a particular issue, topic’, ‘4. to talk in details, to discuss in consultation with each other deliberate; dispute’.In cases where the diskutuoti is used in the meaning of ‘1. to exchange opinions and points of view in a conversation, discussion, to share opinions, points of view’, and the agent subject is said in the plural form of a noun or a word used in a noun, it is monovalent (People discuss with each other again). Bivalent diskutuoti ‘1. to exchange opinions and points of view in a conversation, discussion, to share opinions, points of view’ controls the necessary agent subject and the indirect object corresponding to the comitative, expressed by the construction with preposition su.Syntactic actants for bivalent diskutuoti ‘2. to have an opinion, an view on a certain issue, topic’ are told by the nominative of the subject and the construction with preposition su of the indirect object; semantic valence – [Pcp, Concom] (Jonas discusses with the author‘s interpretation).Trivalent diskutuoti ‘3. to talk argumentativily, to argue, to disagree, to reach an agreement on a particular issue, topic’ requires the agent‘s subject, indirect objects corresponding to the functions of comitative and contentive. In the sentence, the comitative is expressed by the preposition su, and the contentive is optionally expressed by the preposition apie or dėl (Onutė discusses with the economist about cabbage / on the principles of nutrition). The latter can be replaced by a subordinate clause or a construction with question, topic, etc. In cases where the subject used to discuss is said in the plural form of the word that corresponds to the agent, the verb diskutuoti is bivalent, i.e. [A, Con].The verb diskutuoti using the meaning ‘4. to talk in details, to discuss in consultation with each other deliberate; dispute’, syntactic actants are expressed by the plural nominative of the subject and the acusative of the direct object; semantic valence – [A, Con].From the few examples found with the verb disputuoti, it became clear that several meanings of this verb are possible in terms of valence. Bivalent disputuoti ‘1. dispute to exchange, sharing opinions, points of view’ governs the necessary subject of the agent and the indirect object corresponding to the comitative, expressed by the construction with preposition su (John disputes with the professor in English). Bivalent disputuoti ‘2. to dispute, to question whether something is true’ or something like that syntactic actants are told by the nominative of the subject and the acusative of the direct object; semantic valence – [A, Con] (Jonas disputed theses). Trivalent disputuoti ‘3. argue, disagree’ or the like requires the agent’s subject and indirect objects corresponding to the functions of comitative and contentive. In the sentence, the comitative is expressed by the necessary preposition su, while the contentive is optionally expressed by the construction of the preposition apie or dėl (Women are disputing with men about faith / on their role in society). These prepositional constructions can be replaced by a subordinate clause or by a construction with question, topic, etc.

    No full text
This paper examines language choices between Egyptian Arabic and English in the use of colour terms within the bilingual online video performances of two Egyptian vloggers. The informants are two young Egyptian women whose YouTube content focuses on lifestyle topics, including shopping hauls and product reviews. In this case study, four hours of YouTube recordings were subjected to close qualitative analysis to explore how colour names and shades are expressed linguistically. Instances of colour naming in both English and Arabic were identified, and their frequencies were compared. Out of a total of 261 tokens, 52 were in English, 173 were in Arabic, and 36 were classified as mixed tokens. Using a usage-based approach, the study investigates the distribution of colour terms across languages and examines strategies of code-switching (CS). Particular attention is given to the use of basic colour terms (BCT), following Berlin and Kay’s (1969) theory. Finally, the linguistic choices of the two vloggers are compared to highlight similarities, differences, and potential patterns in their language use.Šiame straipsnyje nagrinėjamas egiptiečių arabų ir anglų kalbos pasirinkimas spalvų pavadinimams nusakyti dvikalbiuose dviejų Egipto vaizdo tinklaraštininkų (angl. vloger) internetiniuose vaizdo įrašuose.

Positive solutions for a Hadamard-type fractional-order three-point boundary value problem on the half-line

    No full text
In this paper, we study a Hadamard-type fractional-order three-point boundary value problem on the half-line. Under some growth conditions concerning the spectral radius of the relevant linear operator, the existence and multiplicity of positive solutions is obtained using a fixed-point method. Our results improve and generalize some results in the literature

Notes on the losses compensation of a three-phase power system with DC offset based on geometric algebras

    No full text
In a three-phase symmetric power system, we propose a transformation that converts the original current to a current with minimal losses while preserving the standard constraints. The selected transformation is realized in suitable geometric algebra and is not time-dependent. The proposed transformation uses the group symmetry of conformal geometric algebra, mainly rotations and tations

On well-posedness and decay of Active model B

    No full text
We study the well-posedness and decay estimates of Cauchy problem for Active model B in R3. First, based on the higher-order norm estimates of solutions and the mollifier technique, we obtain the local existence of unique strong solution. Then, by using pure energy method, one proves the global well-posedness and time decay estimates, provided that the H3/2-norm of initial data is sufficiently small
