Prophetic Conflict in Ancient Israel and its Reflections in the Christian Community in Nigeria

    Get PDF
This study argued that the activities of the prophetic groups in ancient Israel brought prophetic ministry into disrepute. As a corollary, the study explored the parallel between prophetic groups in ancient Israel and different Christian groups and denominations in Nigeria. The study was premised on Historical and African Biblical Hermeneutics. It was discovered that there existed parallel between prophetic groups in ancient Israel and the Christian Community in Nigeria. Study revealed that despite the Prophets’ and the Church leaders’ claims to have been divinely called and commissioned the duo were defending and protecting their group, identity, doctrines and interest at the detriment of their divine call as the mouthpiece of God. This action brought the ministries in both contexts into disrepute and decline, for their audience no longer take their oracles and ministries seriously. Their audience see them more of representatives of their prophetic group or church affiliation than of God. The study concludes that church leaders and members of the Christian community in Nigeria should intentionally build a good interpersonal and interdenominational relationship that will cut across group and denominational boundaries in order to foster unity and peaceful coexistence among Christians and non-Christians in Nigeria. Get PDF
Social workers have long been at the vanguard of combating child marriage in Nigeria, yet little is known of their response in this regard. Social constructive theory was applied to inform the theoretic model of this research, taking into account the previous submission as well as the exploratory aspect of the investigation. Drawing on a qualitative approach, semi-structured interviews were conducted with a cohort of five social workers in Nigeria who were working in a mid-scale advocacy organization committed to ending child marriage in northern Nigeria and the results were subjected to thematic analysis. The rigour of qualitative research categories was applied to guarantee the credibility of the data collected. The findings of the study point direction to the roles of practitioners in working to minimize the obnoxious practice but also show that social workers undergo numerous challenges in their quest for combating child marriage. Although combating child marriage requires a multi-sectoral approach and collaboration across key stakeholders as a result of its deep-seated nature, it is highly probable that, with social workers taking the lead role in view of their unparalleled commitment to combating this problem, child marriage will become a phenomenon of the past.      Groundwater which accounts for 30% of the estimated earth's freshwater is an essential natural resource stored in the subsurface geological formations in the critical region of the earth’s crust for sustaining ecosystems and human well-being. One of the challenges in water resources management in semi-arid and tropical regions like Eastern Dahomey basin, Lagos state, Nigeria is how to sustainably manage groundwater resources in relation to water pollution. Despite its importance, groundwater management in the region has been hampered by lack of comprehensive policies, leading to overexploitation and contamination issues. Therefore, a better understanding of the quality processes to a changing future is necessary. This study delves into assessing the groundwater quality in Eastern Dahomey basin, aiming to provide insights for effective management in the face of growing water pollution, scarcity and in relation to the world Health Organisation (2022) and Standard of Nigeria (2015) standard for drinkable water. Fourteen parameters were investigated on forty samples selected from a transient mapping of 6km square transient and the dug wells samples were selected randomly. The samples were taken to the laboratory for in depth analysis for both dry and wet season to denote seasonal variation and climate change impacts. Findings showed significant variations in physiochemical groundwater quality across seasons and parameters. pH levels fluctuated, likely due to rainfall and evaporation, but remained within standard ranges. Odors varied, with most samples not meeting odorless standards. Appearance showed particle concentrations mixed, with clarity below standard. Temperature also varied between seasons but conformed to standard guidelines. The study recommends the development of integrated water resource management plans, adoption of sustainable land use practices, and robust monitoring systems to ensure the long-term viability of groundwater resources. Moreover, there is a pressing need for stringent regulations, comprehensive awareness campaigns, and collaborative research efforts to address groundwater quality issues and promote sustainable groundwater use. By implementing these recommendations, stakeholders can mitigate the adverse impacts of climate change, safeguard groundwater resources, and ensure the well-being of present and future generations in the Eastern Dahomey Basin and similar regions globally. In Defence of Critical Rationalism

    Get PDF
The early Greek philosophers invented the tradition of adopting critical attitude towards explanations that were robed in mythic garbs. They not only challenged the explanations of the ancients, they also criticized and falsified long standing traditions with empirical observations and tests. This attitude to knowledge is what Karl Popper described as critical rationalism. Critical rationalists believe that scientific theory or any other claim to knowledge can and should be rationally criticized and if they have empirical content can and should be subjected to tests which may falsify them. Claims to knowledge that are potentially falsifiable can be admitted to the body of empirical science while not foreclosing further falsification.  But this kind of rationalism was faulted by some philosophers including Paul Feyerabend who argued that it may not be easy for science to grow by the rules of critical rationalism but that scientific knowledge will be better off with the method of ‘anything goes’. The objective of this paper was to critically evaluate some of the criticisms against critical rationalism to ascertain their validity or otherwise. The analytic method was used. The paper is of the view that the rejection of critical rationalism and the recommendation of anarchism for the growth of science is misplaced because lawlessness breeds neither growth nor knowledge. The study examined interpersonal relationship and job satisfaction among early childhood education teachers in Edo State. Three research questions were raised for the study and one of the research questions was formulated into hypothesis. The study is descriptive research and adopted a descriptive survey design. The population of this study comprises all the one thousand and twenty-one (1021) public early childhood education schools and one thousand two hundred and sixty-three (1263) early childhood education teachers in Edo State. A multi-stage sampling technique was used to select a sample of one hundred and two early childhood schools and one hundred and twenty-six early childhood teachers in the three senatorial districts of Edo State. A questionnaire (IRJSAECETQ) which was validated with a reliability coefficient of 0.88 was used to elicit data from the respondents. The research questions were analyzed using mean and standard deviation while hypothesis was tested using Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient. The findings from the analysis of the study revealed that the level of interpersonal relationship among early childhood teachers is low; the level of job satisfaction among early childhood education teachers in Edo State is also low. The findings also revealed that there is a positive and significant relationship between interpersonal relationship and job satisfaction among early childhood education teachers in Edo State. Based on the findings, the study recommended that the level of interpersonal relationship among early childhood teachers, pupils and the school authorities should be improved upon by establishing and maintaining effective and frequent communication among the early childhood education teachers, head teacher, and pupils as it has been proven in this study that there is a significant relationship between interpersonal relationship and job satisfaction among early childhood teachers Keywords:  Interpersonal relationship, Job satisfaction, early childhood education, early childhood education teachers

    Get PDF
No doubt that the Administration of Criminal Justice Act of Nigeria 2015 brought innovative provisions in ensuring justice is served to society. However, despite the innovative provision of the Act, there seems to be a high level of maladministration of justice. Given this, the study undertook doctrinal and non-doctrinal research on how effectively the police, the prison officers, the office of the Attorney-General of Nigeria, and the court have been able to enforce their functions as provided by the ACJA of Nigeria. The study used online survey questionnaires sent to 302 legal practitioners (randomly selected) in Nigeria, given their pragmatic knowledge of ACJA of Nigeria. A descriptive and analytical statistic was used to analyse the respondents’ response in ascertaining if the above ministers of justice have been effective in enforcing their roles as specified by ACJA of Nigeria. Given the data generated, the study found that there has been a lapse in the effective implementation of ACJA in Nigeria. It was therefore concluded and recommended that the Administration of Criminal Justice Monitoring Committee set up by the ACJA of Nigeria exact their duties in check-mating the police, the office of AG of Nigeria, and the courts to ensure the maximum enforcement of their functions. Get PDF
This study examines ethical issues in Nigerian higher education and offers a theoretical framework for setting up efficient research ethics committees and guaranteeing adherence. The first part of the study looks at the history of research ethics boards in Nigerian academia and their increasing necessity. In order to comprehend the significance of research ethics and pinpoint current frameworks for research ethics committees, a thorough literature analysis is carried out, with an emphasis on any shortcomings unique to Nigerian academia. A number of elements are included in the proposed conceptual framework, such as the definition and makeup of research ethics boards, the creation of mandates and scopes, the appointment and training of board members, the creation of ethical guidelines and policies, the application of ethical review procedures, and the cooperation with pertinent stakeholders. Furthermore, in order to improve the efficacy of research ethics boards, the framework highlights the significance of guaranteeing adherence to research ethics standards through awareness and education campaigns, ethical review procedures, ethical breach investigation and resolution, and regular evaluation. The discussion revolves around the potential consequences of putting the suggested conceptual framework into practice, which include improved research integrity, safeguarding research subjects, bolstering the reputation of the institution, fostering an ethical culture in research, improving research cooperation, and conformity to global norms. Many recommendations are made in light of the research and conclusions. These include cooperation with regulatory agencies, regular evaluation and improvement, networking and collaboration, institutional commitment, capacity building through training programmes, and awareness and education programmes. The importance of research ethics in Nigerian academia is emphasised in this study, which also offers a thorough conceptual framework for creating efficient research ethics boards. By putting this framework into reality, Nigerian universities would improve their standing in the eyes of the international academic community, improve research ethical procedures, and safeguard study participants. Music Education in the Senior Secondary Schools in Nigeria: An Overview and the Experience

    Get PDF
The objective of this paper is to examine the current state of music education in Nigerian Senior Secondary Schools and how music teachers will adopt an effective transformation in music education at all levels in Senior Secondary Schools. This study is to enable music teachers /educators to reposition and re-strategize themselves for the development of music education in Nigerian schools. The survey method is very useful to this study. There are three aspects to survey methods as used in the study. These are: (1) observation, (2) interview, and (3) questionnaire. One hundred (100) senior secondary schools (SSS) students from five different secondary schools including public, private girls only, boys only, and co-educational found within Ibadan municipality of Oyo State, Nigeria, and situated in different local governments (Ibadan North, Ibadan North-East and Ibadan South-West) were used for the study. The outcome of the study shows that the bias of government educational policies in favour of core science and science-based disciplines is a significant issue that will continue to affect the listing of music as a core- subject in Junior and Senior Secondary schools. Nigerian music teachers have continually agitated for better funding of the music program in the school systems by the government and its agencies. In recent times, the teaching of music in Nigerian schools was incorporated and merged into the CCA program. It is realized in this new curriculum that the four (4) different areas of study are merged to form a subject called CCA: fine art, music, drama, and craft.  For music education in Nigeria to improve in standard and output, it should be given a solid foundation at the Nursery/Primary school level. In conclusion, all the above aims of music education cannot be achieved unless there are enough professionally trained, efficient, committed, and effective teachers. It is necessary to lay much emphasis on the training of music education teachers, products of which will be responsible for the implementation of the aims and objectives of music education programs in the pre-primary, primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions in Nigeria.  Keywords: Music, Education, Secondary, Schools, Experience

Legal Issues Concerning the Role of Arbitration in Resolving Corporate Governance Dispute in Nigeria

    Get PDF
This study conceptualized dispute as an integral part of man’s existence and a common occurrence in all human interactions; social, political, industrial, international, national, corporate, commercial, etc. In a corporate organization, disputes may result owing to strained relationships between the various stakeholders who are involved in the determination of the direction, and performance of the company. However, what is important is that the parties should be able to find a common ground and resolve such disputes amicably hence the need for an informal, quicker, less expensive, effective, and confidential mechanism as opposed to the formal, strict judicially entrenched way of resolving disputes. Based on this background, the focus of this research is the examination of arbitration as a necessary and successful tool in the resolution of corporate governance disputes and, consequently, helping to preserve the privacy of the parties in the dispute and the company, contributing to the improvement of corporate governance practices through the strengthening of investors' confidence, increasing shareholder value, enhancing the access to financing, promoting business continuity, and reducing the overall costs arising from corporate governance disputes. Concerning this, the study adopts a doctrinal method of study, the primary and secondary sources of the material relied on were analysed through a descriptive and analytical method. The study therefore observes that despite the numerous advantages and successes recorded in the use of arbitration to achieve an amicable resolution of corporate governance disputes, it is still faced with some limitations. The study therefore in its conclusion, recommended various strategies that can be employed to enhance the use of arbitration in resolving corporate governance disputes.
