An Examination of Property Tax within the Context of Fiscal Federalism in Nigeria
Get PDFThis study critically examined the role of property tax in local government revenue generation and governance in Nigeria, particularly within the fiscal federalism framework. It highlighted the constitutional principles and challenges associated with property taxation, emphasizing the dichotomy between the constitutional empowerment of states to impose property tax and the delegated responsibility for assessment and collection to Local Government Councils (LGC). In this regard, the study adopted a doctrinal method of study, and descriptive and analytical methods was adopted in analyzing primary and secondary sources of material. The study identified the following challenges: centralization at the state level, the absence of a comprehensive database, tax evasion, legal exemptions, skill shortages, lack of political will, and corruption as major challenges of property tax and fiscal federalism in Nigeria. The study therefore concludes and recommends that there is a need for a recalibration within the federalist spirit, urging states to relinquish the unconstitutional centralization of property tax functions and empowering local governments for independent assessment and collection. Furthermore, the study also recommended the empowerment and support of local governments to independently execute these functions, thereby enabling them to generate revenue and effectively fulfill their constitutional obligations.

Contributions of Maltina Dance Reality Show to Dance Practice in Nigeria
Get PDFDance involves the totality and living experience of man from the prehistoric times till date. It was part of all his daily activities such as his work, communication and even in his worship of the gods and ancestors (Nigeria inclusive). To this extent, the Nigeria dance practice has developed greatly even in the face of multi ethnicity as it has given birth to various indigenous dances. These indigenous dances have also been the raw materials to every form of contemporary dances that has emerged over the years. Diverse platforms have also surfaced to help sustain Nigerian dances such as National Arts Festival (NAFEST), Nigeria University Theatre Arts Festival (NUTAF) and the trend of dance reality shows that has been the order of the day within recent times in Nigeria. An undoubted reality television show that has done greatly in the sustainability of Nigerian dances is Maltina Family Dance All Reality Television Show. The functionalist theory of dance is used to unveil the reality show which has been able to adjust to bridge the gap between the prehistoric era and the contemporary or modern era by using technological advances to keep the dance practice in shape. This research will examine Maltina Family Dance All Reality Television Show within the context of dance praxis and the immense contributions to dance practice and sustainability in Nigeria with a view to how it has put Nigeria indigenous dances to practice since the inception till date in the face of globalization and industrialization. It will conclude that the dance reality show has provided dance practitioners both with dance repertoires and engagement with diverse indigenous dances as well as rewards both as individuals and as professionals.

Moral Values, Sanctity of Life for Nation Building: A Biblical Perspective
Get PDFNigerians from the onset, have a peculiar culture which is known in their ways of life. Their values and norms as elements of this their ways of life are embedded in moral education. However, in Nigerian society today, there is a high rate of negligence of societal moral values while many vices such as: dishonesty, disrespect of elders, insecurity, kidnapping, banditry, raping, corruption, bribery, and many others prevail. In light of the above, this paper examines the role of moral values and the sanctity of life in nation-building. Moral education is a means through which individuals are formed and reformed through qualitative training and retraining of human beings who are agents of development in society. The paper also considers moral education as a means of regenerating these norms and moral values. Again, the paper discovers among other things that moral values which are seen as behavioural conduct and attitude, should be displayed and encouraged by members of the society to build and revitalized the nation. Several recommendations were made and emphasis was laid on the need for moral values taught in moral education, with the collaboration of parents and government by imparting good moral values on the Nigerian Citizens.

Effect of Visual Auditory and Kinesthetic Learning on Students’ Reading Skills in English Language
Get PDFThis study examined Effect of VAK-Learning on Students’ Reading Skills in English Language. Four Objectives and four hypotheses were formulated to guide the study which includes: the effect of VAK-Learning on students phonemic Awareness, Vocabulary, Grammar and Reading comprehension. The research design used for the study was quasi-experimental design. The population comprised all Junior secondary school two (JSS II) students of a selected school in Maiduguri Metropolis, Borno State, Nigeria. Sixty (60) participants were chosen using purposive sampling technique. Self-developed instrument entitled `English Language Reading Proficiency Test` was used to collect the data at both pre-test and posttest. The instrument was validated by the experts and its reliability was achieved at 0.06 using correlation co-efficient. The data collected were analyzed using independent sample t-test. The study revealed that there is significant effect of VAK -Learning on students` reading ability. It was, therefore, recommended that students should be encouraged to utilize audiobooks, songs and visual recordings that enhance reading sub-skills. Teachers should also facilitate small group discussions where students can verbally express their understanding of the reading material as well as use of roleplay to encourage translation of text into action.

Impacts of Herdsmen Attacks on the Religious Worship and Activities of Apa Local Government Area, Benue State
Get PDFThis paper examined the impacts of herdsmen attacks on religious worship and activities of Apa Local Government Area of Benue State. The research aimed at considering the attacks of herdsmen on religious worship and the disruption of other activities in Apa. Historically, herdsmen have been very friendly with farmers and host communities in Apa, but today, the reserve is the case, as they have become a source of misery and worries. Communities and religious worship places are usually their targets and these have left much to be desired in the local communities. Over two decades now, records of herdsmen attacking people in churches, wounding, maiming, and killing in Benue State, have formed headlines of the major national dailies and other news outlets in Nigeria. The work adopted descriptive and analytical methods, while data were elicited from both primary and secondary sources, to address the issues raised. The findings revealed that herdsmen attacks were caused as result of struggle for meager resources such as water and farmland, the Islamization agenda and conspiracies. These have led to the destruction of farm crops, raping, kidnapping, land trespass, lack of respect for host communities, loss of lives, destruction of religious worship places, displacement of people, and homelessness. The work recommended that the Church should encourage dialogue, peace mediation and reconciliation, and intensify prayers to end the menace. On the other hand, security agents should work with the community leaders in securing the local communities. They should step up actions in disarming herdsmen with firearm and be bold to prosecute culprits and discourage violence. This research will be of immense relevance to religious institutions, farmers, herdsmen, Benue State, Nigeria, and Africa as a whole.

Optimizing Primary Healthcare Infrastructure for Surgical Services in Dodoma: Strategies, Challenges, and Impact Assessment
Get PDFEfficient primary healthcare infrastructure is crucial for ensuring universal access to surgical services. However, optimizing this infrastructure presents several challenges, including resource allocation, workforce training, and service delivery. This study aims to explore strategies, challenges, and impacts of integrating surgical services into primary healthcare in Dodoma. A cross-sectional approach was used to collect quantitative data from 105 health workers at Dodoma Referral Hospital through questionnaires. Data were analyzed using SPSS V26, with results presented in descriptive and inferential statistics. The study identified various strategies for optimizing healthcare infrastructure, such as effective resource allocation, timely availability of surgical equipment, workforce training, capacity-building programs, and the integration of technology. However, challenges such as insufficient equipment, staffing shortages, limited access to specialized care, financial constraints, and regulatory barriers hindered the optimization process. Multiple linear regression results indicated significant influences of independent variables on the dependent variables (p ≤ 0.05). Correlation analysis revealed a strong positive relationship between strategy implementation and infrastructure optimization (r = .876**, p < .05). It also showed a very strong positive relationship between addressing challenges and infrastructure optimization (r = .868**, p < .05), and the impact of implemented strategies on service improvement (r = .859**, p < .05). The study suggests that addressing these challenges, enhancing collaboration among healthcare professionals, integrating technology, and providing policy support are crucial for improving surgical services. Strengthening primary healthcare infrastructure and addressing staffing shortages are recommended to optimize healthcare delivery in Dodoma.

Effect of Stress Management Strategies on Employee Performance National Open University, Nigeria
Get PDFThe study examined stress management strategies and its effect on employee performance among academic staff of National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN). Survey and documentary research designs were employed. Survey was used to generate primary data in order to establish the relationship between stress management strategies and employee performance among academic staff in NOUN while the documentary research designs was used to obtain data from the documentary evidences. The population of the study comprises academic staff of National Open University of Nigeria. Primary data were collected through the administration of questionnaire, while secondary data were obtained from the work of past researchers and pieces of reports on the subject matter. The simple sampling technique was used to select the participants. Quantitative statistical analysis was used to test the hypotheses at 5% level of significance. Multiple regressions with the aid of SPSS version 27.0 were used to analyse the data. Person-Environment Fit Theory was adopted to explain stress management and performance. Findings revealed positive impact of functional working equipment in managing stress level and performance among academic staff members at the National Open University of Nigeria. Finding also revealed positive impact staff welfare scheme on stress levels and work performance among academic staff members at NOUN. The study recommends among others, that the Management of National Open University of Nigeria should introduce and implement more Stress Management Programs. The Management of National Open University of Nigeria should strengthen its policies aimed at promoting work-life balance for academic staff at NOUN.

By exploring the work of these artists, the article aims to provide insights into the diverse approaches employed in the field of welded metal sculpture. The analysis is supported by critical evaluation of relevant sources including scholarly articles, books, and gallery exhibitions, to highlight the distinctive characteristics and contributions of each artist.

Corruption is the act of corrupting or the state of being corrupt, moral perversion; depravity, and perversion of integrity. The battle between religion and corruption in Nigeria is a moral one and calls for sanity and renewing of the mind. It has eaten deep into the fabrics of the nation with adverse effect on the poor masses. The perpetrating actors of corruption are found in all sectors of our nation but copiously amongst the elite and those in leadership. The objective of this research is to view the place of religious and legal institutions in combating corruptions in Nigerian. This research utilized historical approach as well as books, journals; internet materials etc as sources. It was able to examine corruption in Nigeria, holistic definition of corruption, nature and characteristics of corruption, evil of corruption, and the causes of corruption, legal and institutional fight against corruption in Nigeria, how religion aids corruption and the role of religion in combating corruption as a social responsibility/intervention in Nigeria. It recommends that religious institution should as a matter of urgency be the watchdog and the conscience of the common man in nation with respect to combating corruption in Nigeria.
