Digitizing Learning Delivery through YouTube Technology: A Transformative Approach in Education to Enhancing Students’ Performance
No full textIn an era where digital literacy is becoming increasingly important, the Nigerian education system needs to shift from traditional, teacher-centered methods to more dynamic, student-centered approaches. This study examined how integrating YouTube technology has an impact on secondary school students’ academic performance and attitudes in Civic Education in Akoko Metropolis, Ondo State, Nigeria. A quasi-experimental design was used, involving selected SSII students from public secondary schools in Akoko metropolis, Ondo State. Data were gathered through the Civic Education Performance Test (CEPT) and the Questionnaire on Students' Attitudes towards YouTube for Learning (QSAYL) (r = 0.85) and analyzed using descriptive statistics to identify significant differences between the experimental and control groups. The results showed that students who received YouTube-based instruction performed better and had more positive attitudes toward Civic Education (average mean score = 2.89). Additionally, students responded favorably to YouTube, noting increased interest, better understanding, and greater engagement with the subject. The study recommends improving teacher training in digital pedagogy, providing infrastructure for internet access in schools, and reforming curricula to include digital content delivery methods formally.

Art as Business Enterprise in Nigeria: A Discourse on the Challenges and Prospects in Emerging Painting Markets
No full textThe intersection of art and commerce is a compound space where creativity is capable of meeting market realities. This paper is a discourse of how artists (painters) and other stakeholder of the art industry perceive, negotiate, and assign value to artworks and make the business a sustainable venture of income in Nigeria’s fuzzy economy. The study reveals that artists often struggle to balance their creativity with commercial feasibility. It emphasized that researchers’ and policymakers must understand the critical influencers of the business of art in Nigeria, which include cultural authenticity, pricing and value perception, marketing dynamics, and policy or institutional structures. The study concludes that to solve this issue, stakeholders in the art industry must understand the behavior of art market in Nigeria requires an aesthetic and business lens, which offers implications for art practitioners, art educators, art managers policymakers in the economies of talent or creativity, in order to succeed economically, and also compete on the global art stage.

Sleep Quality and Athletic Performance among Athletes of University of Benin
No full textThe purpose of this study was to find out sleep quality and athletic performance among athletes of the University of Benin. Four research questions were raised in this study and four corresponding hypotheses were formulated at 0.05 level of significant. This study adopted correlation research design. The population of this study consisted of 244 student-athletes of the University of Benin, 145 male and 99 female. The sample size of this study was made up of 122 University of Benin student-athletes. The simple random sampling technique of selection without replacement was used to select the sample. The Pittsburg sleep quality index questionnaire was the instrument that was used in this study. It is a 19 item self-report questionnaire, comprising of both fixed choice and open-ended questions, evaluating several aspects of sleep, which included, subjective sleep quality, sleep latency, sleep duration, habitual sleep efficiency, sleep disturbances. Component scores range from 0 (no difficulty) to 3 (severe difficulty) and their sum produces a global score ranging from 0-21, with higher values indicating poorer sleep quality. A PSQI score greater than 5 considered indicative of poorer sleep quality, based on its high sensitivity and specificity in identifying patients with sleep complaints. The data collected were analysed using Pearson product moment correlation coefficient to analysed hypotheses 1 to 4 at 0.05 alpha level. Findings revealed that there is a significant relationship between sleep latency and athletic performance, it was therefore concluded that, there is a significant relationship existing among sleep latency, duration efficiency and athletes’ performance in University of Benin. It was therefore recommended that sports managers should incorporate sleep management strategies into their training programs because it is a vital for athletes seeking to optimize both physical and cognitive performance

Customers’ Complaints in Online Shopping: Causes, Patterns, and Implications
No full textThis study investigated customers’ complaints toward online shopping. The study examined which online store is mostly patronized by the Nigerian consumers; the common issues faced by online customers that lead to complaints; the mode of complaint that is mostly adopted by online store customers; and the extent to which online customers are satisfied with the resolution of their complaints. This study used the survey method by administering copies of structured questionnaire to two hundred (200) online shoppers. Data collected were descriptively analysed using percentages, ranking, and frequencies via the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) software. The study found that the common customers’ complaints towards online shopping are: misleading products descriptions, poor quality of delivered products, high cost of delivery, long delivery time, high cost of products, and difficulty navigating through the websites. It was also observed that the mode of complaints mostly adopted by online store customers is complaining to the online store to redress the issue. The study recommended that online stores should ensure that products are described exactly as they are so as not to mislead the customers into buying a lie.

Indiscipline Related Behaviour and Academic Performance of Secondary School Students in Mathematics in Calabar Education Zone of Cross River State, Nigeria
Get PDFThe purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between indiscipline related behaviours and academic performance of secondary school students in mathematics in Calabar Education Zone of Cross River State, Nigeria. To achieve the purpose of this study three null hypotheses were generated to direct the study. Literature review was done according to the variables under study. Correlational research design was adopted for the study. This design was considered appropriate because it allowed the researcher to measure the relative and composite contributions of tendency to indiscipline related behaviour and secondary school students’ academic performance. A sample of three hundred and thirty-six (336) respondents was randomly selected for the study. The selection was done through the stratified random sampling technique. The questionnaire was the main instrument used for data collection. The instrument was subjected to face validation by experts in measurement and evaluation in the Faculty of Education, University of Calabar. The reliability estimate of the instrument was established through the Cronbach alpha reliability method. Regression analysis was the statistical analysis technique adopted to test the hypotheses under study. The results of the analysis revealed that, bullying, absenteeism, truancy, lateness to school and examination dishonesty significantly relate to students’ academic performance in mathematics. Based on the findings of the study it was recommended among others that principals and teachers should check mate bullying by disciplining any student who intentionally or incidentally engages in these dastardly acts, that students should be made to understand the dangers of examination malpractice and culprits caught in examination should be used to set good examples for others to enable them model adequate behaviours and study hard for their examination
Seeking Peace by any means Possible: An Assessment of the Role Civilian JTF in Crime Management in North-East Nigeria
Get PDFCrime and insecurity have been, and continue to be one of the major challenges confronting the nation, with the north-eastern part assuming a permanent theater of war between the Boko Haram terrorist group and the Nigerian state since 2009. This paper presents an assessment of the role the Civilian JTF in the fight against terrorism in Borno State. To execute this study very effectively, the following objectives have been pursued: (1) the examination of the role Civilian JTF in crime management (2) investigation of how effective they are in crime management and (3) the exploration of the strategy/method employed in carrying out their informal crime management function. This paper gathered data qualitatively. The qualitative data was collected through Key Persons Interviews (KPI) of some purposively selected individuals. The data was subjected to thematic content analysis. The finding showed that the failure of the formal social control agencies has birthed the civilian JTF, that have complemented and filled the gap created in a way and they are also effective in crime management. The study recommends that the formal law enforcement agencies should collaborate with the Civilian JTF in the area of training and retraining, as well as, in information sharing. Furthermore, they - Civilian JTF - should be given incentives by the Government and Communities for the risky job they are doing. This will serve as motivation to do more for their communities.

Community Development and English Studies Programme in Higher Education: A Partnership for Progress
Get PDFCommunity development refers to the collaboration between universities and local communities to address social, economic, cultural, and environmental challenges. It is a partnership that supports growth and progress, with universities combining academic expertise, research output and student involvement to promote sustainable development within local communities. This paper interrogates this partnership in the context of English Studies and argues that collaboration with community stakeholders can deepen the students' understanding of social dynamics and empower them as agents of change when such opportunities for practical application are made available within the discipline’s curriculum. This paper employs a qualitative research design focusing on students, faculty, and community members. The data collection methods are semi-structured interviews, focus group discussions with stakeholders and document analysis of the English studies syllabus as well as the SIWES programme. The data analysis is thematic identifying and analysing patterns and themes within the qualitative data. Findings include the need to integrate community-oriented content as well as SIWES into the English studies curriculum. By engaging in socially relevant projects addressing community needs such as literacy, cultural preservation, and social justice, English Studies students can enhance their academic development, critical thinking, communication skills and employability while making tangible contributions to their communities. However, challenges such as limited resources, faculty training, and sustainability of partnerships remain. The paper contributes to advancement in knowledge, educational planning and development, and effective decision making with the capacity to contribute to community resilience and sustainable development.

Students’ Satisfaction with Academic Support Services at the University of Benin
Get PDFThe study investigated students’ satisfaction with academic support services at the University of Benin. It precisely aimed at ascertaining the level of students’ satisfaction with teaching/educational services; evaluate the level of students’ satisfaction with library services; verify the level of students’ satisfaction with security services; determine students’ contentment with administrative/and registration services; evaluate the level of students’ satisfaction with medical services; ascertain students’ satisfaction with hostel accommodation and examine students’ satisfaction with information and communication technology (ICT). The study sample comprises of three hundred and eighty-five (395) respondents drawn from undergraduate students of University of Benin with the help of Google Form. Structured questionnaire was utilised to gather the needed information and the investigative techniques employed include simple percentages, means, correlation and multiple regression. All tests were performed at the 0.05 level of statistical significance. The result showed that teaching/educational services were positive and significantly related to students’ satisfaction in the University of Benin. Security services had a positive and significant relationship with students’ satisfaction in the University; administrative and registration services was positive and significantly related to students’ satisfaction. Medical services provided by health workers significantly affect students’ satisfaction in the University. Information and communication technology (ICT) had a positive and significant relationship with students’ satisfaction. However, library and hostel accommodation services had no significant relationship with students’ satisfaction in the University of Benin. The study therefore recommends that regular satisfaction surveys should be conducted to specifically address library and accommodation services to better understand student expectations and experiences.

Consumer Perceptions on Halal Food and Its Implications for Sustainability in Nigeria: A Market-Based Approach
Get PDFThe demand for halal food products is increasing globally, with Nigeria being a significant market. This study examines the factors influencing consumer perceptions of halal food and their implications for sustainability in Nigeria. A survey of 384 Muslim consumers revealed a significant positive correlation between consumer perceptions of halal food and factors such as halal certification, sustainability, religious beliefs, consumer purchase intentions, and environmental awareness. The regression analysis showed that religious beliefs, halal certification, sustainability, and environmental awareness are significant predictors of consumer perceptions and purchase intentions. The study's findings have implications for food manufacturers, marketers, and policymakers seeking to promote sustainable halal food practices in Nigeria.

Challenges of Financial Technology (FINTECH) Innovations of Small Enterprises in South-West, Nigeria
Get PDFThis study investigated the challenges affecting the adoption of financial technology (fintech) innovations among small enterprises in Southwestern Nigeria, with a focus on three critical factors: regulatory barriers, technological infrastructure, and financial literacy. The primary objective was to understand how these factors influence fintech adoption among small businesses and to identify potential strategies for enhancing financial inclusion and supporting SME growth. A quantitative research design was utilized, with data collected from a sample of 350 small enterprises across key urban centers in Ekiti, Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Osun, and Oyo states. The sample size was determined using the Taro Yamane formula and stratified and simple random sampling techniques ensured representative data collection. The study formulated and tested three hypotheses aligned with the research objectives, using statistical analyses, including ANOVA, to evaluate the relationships between regulatory, infrastructural, and educational factors and fintech adoption. The findings reveal that regulatory barrier, such as complex compliance requirements and high costs, present significant obstacles to fintech adoption among SMEs. Furthermore, insufficient technological infrastructure, particularly in terms of reliable internet connectivity and stable electricity supply, limits access to fintech services. Financial literacy was also found to play an essential role, as SMEs with higher levels of digital financial understanding demonstrated greater fintech adoption rates. These results underscore the importance of targeted interventions: simplifying regulatory processes, enhancing infrastructure, and developing financial literacy programs to promote fintech engagement among SMEs. Such initiatives could foster financial inclusion, enhance SME productivity, and contribute to regional economic development. Future research is recommended to explore fintech adoption patterns across specific industries and investigate the impact of socio-cultural factors on digital financial engagement among SMEs.
