Efficiency of the Equity Markets in the Prewar Japan VII : Including Long-term and Short-term Futures Trading and Cash Transaction
No full textThis paper tests efficiency of the equity markets in the prewar Japan. I try semi-strong form tests of all types of equities, that is, the long-term and short-term futures trading and cash transaction, using macro-economic indices and firmsʼ dividend, capital stock change, and business news including life insurance companiesʼ trading as explanatory variables. The Oji Paper Companyʼs new and old equities and other 10 equities are included. Data period is between 1927 and 1941, and is split at November 1934. According to the test results, some equities were efficient in total period or in split periods, and others were inefficient. Especially, in the latter half period, efficient equities are more than those of the former half period. These results may be explained using increase of trading volume, number of total stockholders, ratio of big stockholders, development of communication technology and trading technique

No full textDo women council members allocate more public goods? Evidence from rural India
No full textGender quotas are intended to address the underrepresentation of women in government. However, their effectiveness remains controversial. This study explores the random assignment of gender quotas across villages in India, examining whether women members of local councils affect public goods allocation in their constituencies and identifying potential challenges they face when implementing policies. We conducted a field survey in 100 villages, each with a population of approximately 400, a size corresponding to only one council member for representation in the council. The findings suggest that the performance of women council members generally aligns with that of their men counterparts in terms of public goods allocation. However, women members exhibited less effectiveness in delivering water facilities. Factors potentially hindering female members include influence from nonmember actors, such as husbands; lower educational attainment; and diminished electoral incentives. Additionally, the gender and caste of the council president impacts the performance of women council members, suggesting that overall gender and caste composition of the legislature is an important aspect to consider when evaluating the performance of women politicians.Funding from a JSPS Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research-B (19H01489) for providing financial suppor
Possibilities for Psychological Support and Health Literacy Education for Sick Children
No full textThis paper focuses on communicative activities to help children develop health literacy, which is widely required for healthy and non-disabled persons, but is also important for those with special needs. However, considering its potential in special needs education practice, it would be useful to refer to medical practice based on health communication to focus on students’ disabilities and diseases. Health literacy is based on the theory of health promotion, and is positioned as a type of critical literacy when working with the wider environment to maintain and improve one’s own health, the health of others around one, and the health of community members. The concept is considered important in health education. Through the examples of communication activities, it was suggested that it would be effective to utilize the methods of medical communication to provide learning and support that is tailored to the health conditions of individual students. The content of self-care activities in the national curriculum is comprehensive, covering all disabilities, and teachers and curriculum planners are required to make learning activities specific to the individual conditions of each school
