Mathematical Representation of High School Students in Understanding the Concept of Arithmetic Sequences and Series
This study aims to describe the mathematical representation ability of class XI MA Sumber Payung students in understanding the concepts of arithmetic sequences and series. This type of research is descriptive qualitative research. The results obtained by students with high math skills in understanding the concepts of arithmetic sequences and series are in the form of representations of mathematical equations/expressions, where students can create mathematical equations or models from other representations given, solve problems involving mathematical expressions and representations of words/written texts. Students can write down what is known and asked in a data or information, so that in answering questions using words or written text. Likewise for students with low mathematical abilities, representation in understanding the concept of arithmetic sequences and series is in the form of representations of mathematical equations/expressions and representations of words/text.Keywords: Representation, understanding arithmetic concepts, sequences and series.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpmipa/v23i1.pp78-8
Profile of Students’ Critical Thinking Skills on the Concept of Pressure through Collaborative Sharing and Jumping Task
This study aims to analyze the profile of critical thinking skills students in science learning with collaborative learning design sharing and jumping tasks. Indicators of critical thinking skills used are based on Ennis (1985). The method used is descriptive qualitative. Lesson design sharing & jumping tasks consist of three core activities: sharing task 1, sharing task 2, and jumping task. The instruments used are observation and audio recording of the learning process. Data were analyzed by Transcript Based Lesson Analysis (TBLA). The results of the analysis show that the collaborative learning design of sharing and jumping tasks can bring up students' critical thinking skills. The profile of students' critical thinking skills in sharing task 1 activities found 6 indicators with the highest percentage at 58%, on sharing task 2 found 12 indicators with the highest percentage at 100%, and jumping task found 9 indicators with the highest percentage at 75%. The Effect of e-Worksheets in Eco-Friendly Technology Oriented with Argument Driven Inquiry Model to Improve Students Argumentation Skills
This study aims to describe the effect of implementing e-worksheets on environmentally friendly technology materials with the Argument-Driven Inquiry (ADI) model in improving students' argumentation skills. This study involved 60 grade IX students in a junior high school in South Lampung, Lampung province. The research design used was a non equivalent pretest-posttest control group design with an experimental class of 30 students and a control class of 30 students. Students in the experimental class get learning assisted by e worksheet with the ADI model, while students in the control class are taught using the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model. The results showed that students who were taught using the e worksheets with the ADI model had a higher N-gain (g=0.61 with medium criteria) than students taught using the PBL model (g=0.17 with low criteria). Furthermore, the effectiveness of learning environmentally friendly technology using the ADI model shows a high category (ES=0.84). This shows that the e-worksheet material on environmentally friendly technology using the ADI model was effective in improving students' argumentation skills. Development of Linear Equations e-Learning Media by Integrating Geogebra in Google Sites
The purpose of this research is develop online linear equation learning media using Geogebra through Google sites. This is a research and development research that uses the Alessi and Trollip (2001) models. The development steps are: planning, design, and development. The instrument used in this study was student worksheets found on Google sites. This research was tested on 56 students of grade 8 MTsN 1 Malang City. The validation results show that this media is valid with a score of 85.6%. When the experiment was conducted on students, it showed that this media was practical with a score of 83.0% and effective with a score of 81.3%. This study also shows that through the steps of guided discovery learning: providing stimulation, problem statement, data collection, data processing, verification, and drawing conclusions students are able to construct concepts about straight-line equations independently. The Effect of Science Attitudes toward Science Process Skills of Junior High School Students in Jambi
The purpose of the research will be to see if there is an influence between students' attitudes and science process skills. Quantitative study with a sample size of 139 students. The research instrument used a questionnaire and an observation sheet. Based on the research results, there are 65.0% of students have very good attitudes in learning science and 64.3% of students' science process skills are categorized as very good. Based on the results obtained, it is known that there is an influence of students' attitudes on students' science process skills. As much as 75.7% of students' process skills in science learning are influenced by students' attitudes and 24.3% of students' science process skills are influenced by other factors. These science process skills can be trained and improved through hands-on experience such as conducting experiments or practicums. Development of Arduino-Based Rotating Wheel as a Physics Learning Media of Circular Motion
Learning media was used to explain the theory and minimize misconceptions. 50% of physics teachers in East Java have difficulty creating learning media of circular motion. Therefore, researchers created an innovation learning media and analyze the perception of physics teachers to Arduino-based "Rotating Wheel" learning media (ABRW). This research used R&D design with a 4-D model. The subjects were 24 physics teachers throughout East Java and 35 students’s XII MA Jabal Noer, Sidoarjo. The instruments used the form of teacher and student response questionnaires and material expert validation sheets. The data analysis is the calculation of the average value of validation results. The result from the physics teacher's and student response more than 65.8% and 75% in very positive category and validation more than 85% with a very valid categori. Thus, it was concluded ABRW props are feasible to use as well as learning physics in a circular motion topic. Keywords: arduino, circular motion topic, learning media. Instruments in Identifying Representational Competence in Chemistry: A Systematic Literature Review
This literature review research aims to determine the instrument test in identifying representational competence in chemistry. The identified abilities involve how students can use, interpret, translate, and connect multiple representations to improve representation competence. The method used in this present study is SLR method by using meta-analysis approach by comparing information in some research literature study from 2011-2021 in the ERIC database, google scholar, and SINTA. Based on the results of research on 7 reviewed articles, it showed that several open-ended questions (57.14%) and multiple-choice instruments (57.14%) are the most widely used instruments to identify students' representational competence. The findings of the research show that there are several instruments that are combined with other instruments to strengthen the analytical method in obtaining data and completing the shortcomings of other instruments. In addition, there are several instruments made by aspects to measure how far the students' representational competence are. Common Difficulties of Eighth Grade Students When Solving Non-Routine Mathematics Problems
The study's objective is to investigate common difficulties experienced by 8th-grade students when solving non-routine mathematics problems. This study used a qualitative descriptive method, and the research participants were eighth-graders students at one of the private middle schools in Jakarta. The researchers used a convenience sample to obtain a group of six students available for an in-depth interview session and willing to solve two non-routine problems related to algebra topic. The study showed that the participants experienced difficulties when solving non-routine mathematics problems. They could not read the problem comprehensively; they had trouble converting the word problems into mathematical sentences. They also had difficulty in carrying out their plans. In other words, students did not have the strategy to solve the problem. They had errors in the calculation and had incorrect formulations when solving the given problems. It is suggested that the teacher provide students with guiding instructions to assist students in going through the problem-solving phases step by step. The teacher can also highlight the non-routine problem's keywords and give a representation that helps students understand the problem. Development of Chemical Equilibrium E-Module Guided by 5E Instructional Model with Interactive Virtual Laboratory
E-module is a form of electronic teaching material that can be used independently, with each learning activity connected by a link. 5E Instructional Model is a learning model that was developed based on constructivism learning, where students construct their own knowledge and are actively involved in every stage of the learning process. This study aims to develop a chemical equilibrium e-module based on an integrated 5E instructional virtual laboratory, as well as to determine the level of validity and practicality. The development of the e-module is carried out through the Plomp model stage which consists of 3 stages, namely preliminary research, prototyping phase, and assessment phase. The assessment instruments used are observation sheets and questionnaires. Items Analysis of Midterm Exam Test on Difficulty Level and Discrimination Index Based on Bloom Taxonomy: A Case of Junior High School Mathematics Problems
The purpose of this study was to find out how the level of difficulty on the Middle Semester Assessment of Mathematics class VII SMP Negeri 5 Cibitung for the 2021/2022 academic year was based on Bloom's taxonomy. This research was conducted at SMP Negeri 5 Cibitung. The type of research is descriptive research with a quantitative approach. The data collection technique used is the documentation method, while the data analysis technique uses Microsoft Excel with formulas to test validity, reliability, difficulty level, discriminatory power, and calculate the percentage level of difficulty of questions based on Bloom's taxonomy. Based on the results of the analysis, it can be concluded that there are 18 items (90%) which are declared valid, and the items are declared reliable with a reliability coefficient of 0.83. The results of the analysis of questions based on Bloom's taxonomy, obtained questions belonging to the ability to understand (C2) as many as 5 items (25%), belonging to the ability to apply (C3) as many as 10 items (50%), and belonging to the ability to analyze (C4) as many as 5 items (25%). There are no questions belonging to the ability to remember (C1), evaluate (C5), and create (C6), then the questions are classified based on the students' thinking criteria, and the questions that are classified as Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) are 5 items (25%) and questions that are classified as Medium Order Thinking Skills (MOTS) as many as 15 items (75%).
