De invloed van de organisatie structuur op kanaal integratie
No full textIn een omnichannel-retailomgeving is het bieden van een consistente klantbeleving over meerdere kanalen cruciaal. Uit een gap-analyse blijkt dat er significante verschillen bestaan tussen de gewenste en feitelijke integratiekwaliteit. Vooral procesconsistentie, contentconsistentie en kanaalkeuzevrijheid laten te wensen over. Dit suggereert dat Welkoop moeite heeft met het stroomlijnen van informatie en serviceprocessen over verschillende kanalen.

LEGIO IX HISPANA. A comprehensive study into the ancient mystery of the disappearance of the Ninth Legion of the Roman Empire.
No full textLegio IX Hispana disappeared from Roman sources in the first decennia of the second century. For a long time it was thought that the legion was destroyed in an uprising of northern British peoples around 117 and this story echoed in popular literature. However, new sources indicating the legion's presence in Nijmegen combined with careers of officers who served in the ninth legion after its supposed destruction showed that Legio IX Hispana could not have been destroyed in this uprising. Rather, it could have met its end later in Britannia, in Nijmegen while it was stationed there or in the eastern parts of the Roman Empire. In this research, these three possible scenarios are analysed by looking at all available sources. This way, an attempt is made to provide the first comprehensive study of the disappearance of Legio IX Hispana carried out by a non-British historian

No full textOm controle te houden over haar publieke perceptie, maakte koningin Elisabeth I gebruik van staatsieportretten. In het onderzoek worden elf staatsieportretten geanalyseerd om te onderzoeken hoe deze haar imago als Virgin Queen en status als hoofd van de Anglicaanse kerk weerspiegelen. Deze analyses worden gedaan op basis van iconografische en stilistische kenmerken, waarbij wordt gekeken naar literaire, Bijbelse en mythologische verwijzingen, representatie en gebruik van gender, de betekenis van maagdelijkheid, zogenoemde '(gezichts)patronen', en de icoonvorming van Elisabeth. Het gebruik van deze elementen zorgt voor complexe en gelaagde kunstwerken die Elisabeth neerzetten als een tijdloze, deugdzame en goddelijk gelegitimeerde monarch waarmee de portretten een propagandistische functie krijgen
De staat van voorspellingen
No full textDeze scriptie onderzoekt het gebruik van technologische voorspellingen, voornamelijk algoritmes en digital twins, in de publieke sector, met een focus op de problematiek die deze voorspellingen oproepen. Het blijkt dat voorspellingen over menselijk gedrag fundamenteel onmogelijk zijn, aangezien menselijke ervaringen niet in berekenbare modellen passen en mensen zich voortdurend herdefiniëren. Bovendien is de veronderstelde objectiviteit van voorspellende technologieën onterecht, omdat classificaties altijd afhangen van menselijke keuzes. Het belang van contextafhankelijke betekenis wordt benadrukt, evenals de risico’s van wat "voorspellende privacy" zal heten. Het gebruik van technologische voorspellingen in beleidskeuzes brengt dus epistemologische, metafysische en daardoor ethische bezwaren met zich mee, wat de betrouwbaarheid en de gevolgen van deze keuzes in twijfel trekt
The East through the eyes of the West: Japan's aesthetic influence on Western art in the age of Japonisme
No full textThe aesthetic influence of Japan after the 'opening' of the country in 1853 on Western art was immense. This thesis discusses the cultural representation of the Japanese geisha and tea culture in the late nineteenth-century travel book Unbeaten Tracks in Japan by English travel writer Isabella Bird (1831-1904). Isabella Bird was an experienced traveller who travelled to Japan in 1878. She published her travel account about her trip in 1880 in two volumes. In 1885 both volumes were combined into one book, this version proved to be her most popular travel account.
In the first part of this thesis, the state of the art is discussed through different themes; the history of Japan, Orientalism, Japonisme and Japan in Western (travel) literature. Secondly, an extensive description of the publication history of Unbeaten Tracks in Japan is discussed. Different volumes are compared (1880,1885 and 1911), where differences and similarities are highlighted. Lastly, two chapters discuss two different themes in Unbeaten Tracks in Japan. The figure of the geisha and the tea culture in Japan, both two popular themes within Japonisme, are analyzed in Bird's travel account
Het effect van de moedertaal en een vreemde taal op het empathisch begrip van vierdejaars havo- en vwo-leerlingen na het lezen van een literaire tekst
No full textEerder onderzoek toont aan dat literatuur lezen empathisch begrip bij volwassenen kan bevorderen. Dit onderzoek richtte zich op middelbare scholieren en onderzocht drie aspecten: (1) de invloed van de taal (moedertaal versus vreemde taal) waarin een tekst wordt gelezen op empathisch begrip, (2) de rol van de voorkeurstaal van leerlingen, en (3) de invloed van persoonlijke ervaring met depressie. 87 vierdejaars havo/vwo-leerlingen lazen een literaire tekst over depressie in het Nederlands of Engels en vulden vragenlijsten in die empathisch begrip maten via constructen zoals sympathie, identificatie, absorptie en ongemak. De resultaten toonden geen significante verschillen in empathisch begrip tussen de taalcondities, voorkeurstaal of persoonlijke ervaring. Dit wijst erop dat de invloed van deze factoren mogelijk minder uitgesproken is bij scholieren. Het onderzoek draagt bij aan de literatuur door de complexiteit van taal, literatuur en emotionele verwerking bij jongeren te verkennen
In Europe we trust? A study into the effects of social media on trust in institutions of the European Union
No full textThis thesis examines the role of social media use in the development of trust or distrust in three major political institutions of the European Union. While existing research suggests that social media use negatively impacts trust in the EU, that research uses data from 2012 and 2019. Based on other research, the suspicion arises that this effect might no longer be prevalent. The relevance of this thesis therefore lies in investigating this effect with data from a Eurobarometer conducted in 2023. This study applies a logistic multilevel model to the Eurobarometer data. When interpreting the results it becomes clear that social media use does not impact trust in the political institutions of the European Union at all. This result holds as well when people specifically looking for information on the EU when using social media
National Identity, Cultural Memory, and the Interpretations of St. Nedelya Church in Batak, Bulgaria
No full textThis thesis investigates how national identity and cultural memory influence interpretations of
St. Nedelya Church in Batak, Bulgaria- a significant heritage site commemorating the 1876
Batak massacre. The study aims to understand how Bulgarian and international visitors perceive
the church differently, and how these interpretations reflect broader narratives of trauma,
nationalism, and historical consciousness. Using a qualitative, interpretive methodology, the
research relies on the review of relevant scholarly literature, the analysis of visitors’ reviews
from Google Maps (2018-2024), and a thematic analysis of Ivan Vazov’s poem Memories from
Batak- A Child’s Story (1891), and relevant scholarly literature. Reviews were selected through
purposive sampling, ensuring a variety of emotional, symbolic, and descriptive responses from
both Bulgarian and international visitors. The analysis highlights four major themes in visitor
interpretations: emotional trauma, national sacrifice, religious symbolism, and general tourismrelated
observations. Findings show that Bulgarian visitors commonly interpret the site through
an emotional and symbolic lens, an interpretation shaped by a national narrative of sacrifice
and collective suffering. These interpretations align with theories of prosthetic memory
(Landsberg, Marschall) and lieux de mémoire (Nora), suggesting that the church functions as a
ritualized site of national mourning. In contrast, international visitors often engage with the
church in aesthetic or historical terms, reflecting John Urry’s concept of the tourist gaze and
highlighting the absence of shared cultural memory. Vazov’s poem exemplifies prosthetic
memory by inviting readers to emotionally identify with the trauma of Batak, even if they did
not experience it firsthand, reinforcing the church’s role as a site of national mourning. The
thesis concludes that interpretations of historical sites are deeply conditioned by national
identity and emotional attachment to the past. While St. Nedelya Church serves as a powerful
memory figure for Bulgarians, its significance is often less emotionally resonant for
international visitors. This research contributes to heritage and memory studies by illustrating
how collective trauma is spatially and emotionally transmitted, and suggests future research
through ethnographic interviews and comparative studies of similar heritage sites in postconflict
regions
Het toeschrijvingsvraagstuk van de moderne schilderkunst - Een studie naar de toepassing van stilistische en technische analyse bij de uitvoering van een toeschrijvingsonderzoek binnen de moderne schilderkunst
No full textHet toeschrijven van een modern schilderij vereist een zorgvuldige en kritische afweging van zowel de stilistische als technische analyse en hun onderliggende epistemologische implicaties. De onderzoeksvraag luidt: Hoe verhouden de disciplines van de stilistische en technische analyse zich tot elkaar bij de uitvoering van een toeschrijvingsonderzoek binnen de moderne schilderkunst? Het onderzoek is uitgevoerd aan de hand van een casus, het schilderij: Gezicht over de Waal op Nijmegen. De casus biedt inzicht in de rol van de verschillende disciplines in een moderne attributiekwestie die bijdraagt aan de vorming van een breder epistemologisch kader. De casus wordt getoetst aan de hand van een hypothetische toeschrijving aan kunstschilder Samuel ‘Mommie’ Schwarz. Het werk is nooit eerder in een academisch werk onderzocht en het onderzoek wordt dus vanaf de grond opgebouwd. De resultaten tonen dat het stilistische connaisseurschap een toeschrijving slechts kan ondersteunen, terwijl het technisch connaisseurschap het vermogen heeft deze definitief te falsifiëren. Echter, zijn de mogelijkheden voor falsificatie binnen een modern attributiewerk beperkt. Dit benadrukt het belang van een geïntegreerde aanpak die zowel het stilistisch als het technisch connaisseurschap als essentieel onderdeel behandelt. Het onderzoek biedt een uiteenzetting van beide disciplines en hun toepassingen waarmee het een bijdrage levert aan toekomstige moderne attributievraagstukken binnen het vakgebied van de schilderkunsten
EU’s Future in the Balkans’ Hands?
No full textEnlargement is one of the most important policies of the European Union (EU). However, due to the stagnation of the accession process with the Western Balkan states, this policy is surrounded by uncertainty. Consequently, the EU is in a new uncomfortable situation regarding its international reputation and credibility. This research dives further into this topic, specified to the case of Albania. Through a decolonial lens to debunk the EU’s neo-colonial attitude, this situation will be elaborated via the concept of accession fatigue, in terms of national political interest, local ownership, and public support. How will those aspects contribute to the stagnation of the accession process? And what are the possible solutions to accelerate the process? After an in-depth analysis, this research makes clear that an important part of the solution lies in the EU itself: moving away from its fundamental conditionality.
