A Granular-based Approach for Semisupervised Web Information Labeling
Get PDFA key issue when mining web information is the labeling problem: data is abundant on the web but is unlabelled. In this thesis, we address this problem by proposing i) a novel theoretical granular model that structures categorical noun phrase instances as well as semantically related noun phrase pairs from a given corpus representing unstructured web pages with a variant of Tolerance Rough Sets Model (TRSM), ii) a semi-supervised learning algorithm called Tolerant Pattern Learner (TPL) that labels categorical instances as well as relations. TRSM has so far been successfully employed for document retrieval and classification, but not for learning categorical and relational phrases. We use the ontological information from the Never Ending Language Learner (Nell) system. We compared the performance of our algorithm with Coupled Bayesian Sets (CBS) and Coupled Pattern Learner (CPL) algorithms for categorical and relational labeling, respectively. Get PDFAppendices for this paper may be found at http://winnspace.uwinnipeg.ca/handle/10680/845Since 2000 there has been a surge of scholarly and popular publishing supporting the proposition that the name “Shake-Speare” was a pseudonym disguising a nobleman named Edward de Vere, 17th Earl of Oxford, while the Stratford “Bard” of traditional biography is mere legend. However, this “post-Stratfordian” literature is at present poorly-represented in Canada’s academic libraries, while Library of Congress indexing has long marginalized it. The Every Teacher Project on LGBTQ-inclusive Education in Canada's K-12 Schools: Final Report
Get PDFThis report presents the results of the online survey phase of the “Every Teacher Project” on Canadian K-12 educators’ perceptions and experiences of “LGBTQ-inclusive” education, including curriculum, policies, and practices that include positive and accurate information about lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, Two Spirit, and queer people as well as issues related to gender and sexual diversity (also known as GSD-inclusive education). This type of education is inclusive of students who would otherwise be marginalized by school climates that are typically hostile to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, Two Spirit, or queer students, or students questioning their sexual orientation or gender identity (LGBTQ); to students who have LGBTQ parents, friends or other loved ones; and to cisgender heterosexual (CH) students who can also be directly or indirectly affected by homophobia, biphobia, and transphobia. The project surveyed thousands of educators in the school year ending June 2013. Les écritures migrantes au Québec: l’entre-deux selon Régine Robin
Get PDFDans la mouvance d’une esthétique postmoderne, les littératures contemporaines du Canada, trop longtemps sourdes aux minorités qui les peuplent, s’ouvrent dans les années 1980 à la prise de parole d’écrivains nés ailleurs, qui choisissent le français ou l’anglais comme langue d’écriture. Au Québec, on parle d’“écritures migrantes”, dont la diversité et la richesse sont notables. Ainsi, nous analysons le cas de Régine Robin, écrivaine qui n’est pas née au Québec, et qui réfléchit à l’entre-deux cultures et à l’identité plurielle, qui sont le lot des nouveaux arrivants dans les Amériques.
