    IN VITRO EVALUATION OF THE EFFECT OF CURCUMINOIDS AGAINST Shistosoma mansoni PARASITE

    Introduction: 230 million people are currently infected with schistosomiasis worldwide. Praziquantel (PZQ) is the only drug available for the treatment of this parasitic disease. However, PZQ has low efficacy against juvenile schistosoma worms and its extensive use has raised concerns about development of PZQ-resistant strains. Our studies with curcumin (CUR), the major curcuminoid obtained from the rhizome of Curcuma longa L. have reported potent in vitro schistosomicidal activity against Schistosoma mansoni of Luis Evangalista (LE) strain. Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate in vitro schistosomicidal activity of eighteen synthetic CUR analogs against LE strain of S. mansoni parasites. Methods: The compounds were screened against schistosomula of the S. mansoni Porto Rican (PR) strain in vitro followed by a re-evaluation of successful hits on adult worms. The compounds were evaluated in vitro against adult worms of the S. mansoni LE strain. Morphological changes were determined against adult worms in vitro followed by cytotoxicity studies in mammalian cells. Results: Seven of the eighteen compounds caused degeneration of 80-100% of the schistosomula; five of these caused high mortality against adult worms of S. mansoni PR at the concentration of 10 µM during 48-h incubation. Active compounds were tested on adult worms of S. mansoni LE, four CUR analogs revealed high activity (IC50≤10.5 µM) after 48 h exposure. These compounds induced tegumental damage to S. mansoni parasites. Conclusion: This study demonstrates that the CUR analogs tested are promising candidates for further investigations for optimizing their antischistosomal activities against S. mansoni parasites.Key words: Curcuminoids, in vitro, Schistosomiasis, Schistosomicida

    EVALUATION OF RENAL CHANGES IN BEZERROS EXPERIMENTALLY INFECTED BY Babesia spp AND SUBMITTED TO TREATMENT WITH IMIDOCARB DIPROPIONATE

     Purpose: The objective of the present study will be to evaluate renal changes through urinalysis and biochemical tests of calves experimentally infected with Babesia bigemina and Babesia bovis and to analyze the efficacy and nephrotoxic effects of Imidocarb in treated calves. Eight calves between three and five months old will be selected and kept confined, where each animal will be compared with no control group. To make parasitemia viable, animals will be immunosuppressed with intramuscular Dexamethasone and subsequently inoculated with erythrocytes parasitized by B. bovis and B. bigemina. Through the smear of peripheral blood, parasitemia will be proven. Treatment will be initiated after evidence of intramuscular Imidocarb parasitemia. To evaluate the clinical safety, therapeutic effect and renal parameters before and after inoculation of the parasites, clinical and laboratory tests will be performed on the animals during the study on determined days. Hemogram, serum biochemistry and urinalysis will be performed to evaluate the efficacy of the treatment and to check for any changes resulting from treatment, the evaluations will be continued until 30 days after treatment. For the statistical analysis in which each animal is its own control, a level of significance of p <0.05 will be used. Results: The strains of Babesia would be yielded, but were lost and then it became necessary to obtain them. For this, the methodology of in vitro culture of hemoparasitos was followed, to acquire the animals later. Conclusion: The experimental part and the conclusion of the work are still in progress

    FOOD DISORDERS IN ADOLESCENTS

    Objective: This study aimed to investigate the characteristics and risk factors of eating disorders in adolescents. Method: The Virtual Health Library (VHL) database was used and the descriptors: 'adolescents', 'eating disorder and food intake', 'epidemiology' and 'health promotion', in Portuguese and English. Inclusion criteria: complete articles available electronically / internet, published in Portuguese and English; studies conducted in Brazil between the years 2012 and 2017 that address the subject researched, that is, offer data on the presence or frequency of eating disorders in adolescents. Dissertations, theses, editorials and materials published by public agencies were excluded from the study. Results: The search resulted in 8,989 articles that, after filtering, tapered to 19. From the reading of the abstracts, 10 were selected to be read in full. It was concluded that eating disorders usually develop mainly in the female sex, between 15 and 25 years, and at risk groups as athletes, models, actresses, among other professions. Currently, about 70 million people have some eating disorder and the death rate ranges from 18% to 20%. Conclusion: Eating disorder can have serious consequences on physical and psychological development, so studies in this area become relevant for the prevention and support of those suffering from the problem. The participation of health professionals is of utmost importance for the promotion of healthy habits, taking into account that young people have a greater need to adapt to pre-established standards

    BOOKLET ABOUT STERILIZATION TO PREVENT URINARY DISEASES IN DOGS AND CATS.

    The objective of the booklet is to inform the population about benefits of sterilization of their animals (dogs and cats), as well as how it may prevent genital and urinary diseases. The process was based on a scientific technical research carried out on the internet with the other PIBICm student Yasmin Cristine Freire and supervision of Prof. Leandro Z. Crivellenti. The research was analyzed by the Professor, who solved our doubts about the subject. After that we performed a summary of the information and started the creation of the booklet, which initially received attention in the part of the content that would be presented. It was included in the booklet myths and truths about sterilization and information that includes precautions in feeding animals and do not allow them walk alone on street. In addition to these aspects, together with a designer we worked with the colors and images of the book as visual resources. The booklet will be distributed to Unifran's Veterinary University Hospital customers and other institutions in order to reach the widest possible audience

    VISION SYSTEM TO RECOGNIZE GEOMETRIC PATTERNS AND PARTS COLORS USING COMPUTER VISION AND ROBOTIC MANIPULATOR

    The objective of this work is to develop an aggregated robotic manipulator with a computer vision system, enabling it to recognize the geometric patterns and colors of objects before manipulating them. The geometric feature will do the manipulator claw to position itself properly with the object, aiming to catch it efficiently. As for the color characteristic, it will be able to identify and segregated only the objects with the respective colors pre-selected by the control system. Initially, to elaborate the mechanical structure based on CAD-CAM technique, the three-dimensional technical were developed with their respective perspective of the objects to be manipulated, the automatic supplying column structure of the object, as well as the robotic manipulator structure. As for the image acquisition system, extraction of the descriptors, information processing and the control system, it is being developed in MATLAB® software. The recognition of the geometric patterns was initially programmed to extract relevant information from the image as the area and the perimeter and through mathematical formulas it can identify the basic geometric forms. The color recognition was programmed using the RGB and HSI colors patterns. According to the schedule stipulated by the advisor, the development of this work is being carried out as scheduled, already presenting some specific results, such as recognition of the shapes and colors of some basic objectives

    HISTOLOGICAL EVALUATION OF THE EFFECT OF COPAÍBA OIL (COPAÍBA MULTIJUGA HAYNE) 0.1% ON CURE IN CORNEAL ULCERS CAUSED BY CHEMICAL BURN IN RATS

    Objective: To evaluate the healing of the cornea after the use of Copaifera multijuga Hayne. Methods: The animals were divided into four groups (GC, GL, GE and GT), respectively, and treated every 6 hours with 0.1% copaiba oil, ocular lubricant, commercial ophthalmic ointment and Tween 80 of 0.5 %. The histological evaluation under an optical microscope was performed in 48 and 72 hours. Results: In 48 hours, the presence of corneal epithelium was observed in 100% GE and GC and 50% GT, and only 16.7% GL; at 72 hours 83.3% GE, 66.7% GL, 100% GC and 33.3% GT were found. Inflammatory stromal infiltrates were present in all animals at 48 hours and in 72 hours were found in 100% of GC, GT, GL and 80% of EG. In the anterior chamber, fibrin was in 60% of GC at 48h and 16.6% in 72h; in GT it was observed 16.7% in 48h and 33.3% in 72h; in GE, it was observed 16.7% in 48 and 72 hours and in GL 66.7% in 48h and 16.7% in 72h. Hyphema was observed in 80% of GC at 48h; in GT only 16.7% at 72 hours; in GE and GL there was 16.7% in 48h, in GL 16.7% in 72h. Conclusion: Copaiba oil had a very favorable result in relation to the maintenance of epithelium, reduction of fibrin and hyphema with sincere chemistry

    Yoga as Therapeutic Practice for the Quality of Life in the Workplace

    One of the focuses of Health Promotion is to promote policies that encourage healthy choices, increasing the quality of life of the population. Stress affects people's quality of life and is one of the problems that progressively affects workers. The practice of yoga points to the benefits both physical and mental, also are reported benefits such as prevention of diseases and the possibility of an active lifestyle in the workplace. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to verify the impact of brief yoga practice on the employee's quality of life. The study was carried out in a charity’s entity of the city of Restinga, São Paulo, Brazil. Thirteen employees participated in the survey. Yoga practices were elaborated from basic yoga methods: postures, conscious breathing, and relaxing exercises. The sessions lasted for 35 minutes and were applied for 5 weeks, after work. It used the entity gym space and yoga mats. To evaluate the quality of life, the SF36 questionnaire on health-related quality of life was used. After tabulation of the results, these will be presented in mean values and standard deviation and compared with data in the literature

    OCCURRENCE OF LEPIDOPTERA SPECIES IN ORGANIC COFFEE AGROECOSYSTEM SHADED WITH AVOCADO

    Purpose: Lepidoptera is a diverse order of insects and has about 500 thousand species distributed throughout the world. In Brazil, about 26 thousand species are known. Lepidoptera are insects of agronomic importance and many species are considered agricultural pests. This work aimed at the occurrence of lepidopteran species in an organic agroecossystem of shaded coffee with avocado located in Franca-SP (20°26'53"S 47°24'6"W). Methods: In order to perform the samplings, a sweep net with a cylindrical handle of wood with a length of 120 cm was used, the circular support structure of 30 cm in diameter and a mosquito net for the net, measuring 75 cm in length. Manual samplings of the individuals found in the larval phase. The insects were taken to the laboratory in individual 500 ml containers for later identification. Weekly daytime collections were carried out from October 2017 to March 2018. Results: Sixteen species belonging to eight families were found Nymphalidae, Pieridae, Papilionidae, Limacodidae, Megalopygidae, Arctiidae, Saturniidae and Elachistidae. The collected species were: Nymphalidae family Heliconius ethilla narcaea, Heliconius erato, Hamadryas amphinome, Hamadryas februa februa, Callicore sorana, Agraulis vanillae, Dryas iulia; Arctiidae family Lophocampa modesta; Megalopygidae family Megalopyge lanata, Phobetron hipparchia; Limacodidae family Euphobetron aquapennis; Papilionidae family Heraclides anchisiades capys; Pieridae family Ascia monuste orseis; Saturniidae family Eacles imperialis magnifica and Elachistidae family Stenoma catenifer. Conclusion: High diversity of lepidopteran species was observed in the organic coffee agroecosystem of shaded avocado trees, emphasizing that some species were observed for the first time in these crops

    EVALUATION OF FASCIA FOR RECONSTRUCTION OF THE URETARY SEGMENT IN DOGS

    Purpose: Automobile accidents whose kinematics concentrate stress in the abdomen may lead to rupture of the ureters in both humans and animals. Such damages are a medical emergency since they can lead to infections, azotemia and even nephrectomy. Restoration of the ureter can be complicated, especially in segment loss which prevents surgical anastomosis. Methods: This study aimed to evaluate the prosthesis in place of the ureter made with fascia lata and the best suture pattern for restoration of urinary flow. Results: The study was carried out on cadavers of 3 pigs and 3 dogs, which despite anatomical differences presented a fascia lata with similar characteristics. It was used simple suture, continuous suture, reverdin and cushing patterns, to approximate the flap edges, using vascular surgical wire 6-0. After the prosthesis was constructed, the conduction capacity and possible extravasations in the suture region were evaluated. For this purpose, an infusion pump was used to mimic the conditions of urinary flow from the kidney to the bladder. Conclusions: The fascia lata presented with a viable tissue to the experiment presenting resistance and malleability. The cushing suture pattern showed the best results being the most promising technique to date.Keywords: Kidneys, Prosthesis, Reconstruction, Ureter.Financial support: CNP

    DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF AN EFFICIENCY SYSTEM FOR HYBRID PHOTOVOLTAIC PANELS

    Purpose: To design, construct and validate a system with efficiency of electric and thermal energy generation through refrigerated photovoltaic panels (hybrids). The focus of this work will be to optimize the energy efficiency of the photovoltaic panel and consequently to obtain the thermal energy generation with the energy dissipated by the system. Methods: Through a literature review from renowned authors, books and scientific articles, as well as a research applied through the design, construction and validation of a prototype, the experimental data of the panels are being collected through appropriate instruments, as well as validation of the modeling through data analysis and comparison between the techniques of capturing solar energy and cooling of the panels that best corresponds to the efficiency of the project. Results: The photovoltaic panel loses efficiency when its temperature increases. Although we have advanced well in the project, until the writing of this summary we were still testing the refrigeration system that provides better efficiency. Conclusion: From the study and experiences that have been and will still be, it was expected that the refrigerated panel would provide a greater generation of electrical energy in relation to the non-refrigerated and consequently already heat the water, thus obtaining a better use of energy
