    No full text
The increasing energy demand and sustainable development is requiring that new methodologies for power generation and building blocks for industrial applications have to be created. Therefore, methane usage to these applications shows to be very promising due to its abundance and easy achievement. Both methane and carbon dioxide are Greenhouse gases that are involved in several human activities. Thus, new methodologies to remove such gases from atmosphere are extremely important. Molecules with economical interest like ethylene and acetic acid can be obtained by C-C coupling reactions involving CH4 and CO2.In this work we studied computationally the reaction mechanisms involved in C-C coupling reaction of methane molecules using modifield SSZ-13 zeolites as catalysts

Heck arylation of acyclic olefins employing arenediazonium salts and chiral N,N ligands: New mechanistic insights from quantum-chemical calculations

    No full text
A quantum-chemical study based on the Kohn-Sham density functional theory (DFT) has been performed in order to investigate the asymmetric Heck-Matsuda (HM) reactions involving the chiral N,N ligand pyrimidine-oxazoline. The first step of oxidative addition (OA) of arenediazonium was analyzed to provide further insights on the unexpected high reactivity of N,N-ligated palladium(0) based catalysts observed in these HM processes. DFT calculations suggest that the increasing of ionogenic nature of metal center promoted by the arenediazonium cation addition improving the electronic reactivity of palladium(0) towards the donor N,N ligand.  The enantioselectivity is controlled by the combination of steric and dispersion interactions between ligand and substrate. DFT predictions on the selectivity shown to be in quantitative agreement to the experimental findings

    No full text

Purposes: The footwear sector has become an important social and economic factor worldwide. One of the main products generated in this footwear sector is rubber. One of the most widely used methods to rubber manufacturing is the vulcanization, where it is characterized by crosslinking of sulfur in the rubber structure thereby giving greater strength and elasticity to the material. Thus, this project proposes the thermo-structural study of synthetic rubbers produced in an industry of the Franca city. Objective/Methods: For this, a systematic study will be carried out to verify the changes in the thermal and structural properties, comparing vulcanized and unvulcanised synthetic rubbers. Conclusions: The techniques of Infrared Spectroscopy by Fourier Transform (FTIR) and thermal analysis (TG/DSC) will be used for this purpose in order to verify the influence of the sulfur on the thermal stability of these rubbers and the possible structural changes. Keywords: Rubber, Vulcanization, chemical stability, mechanical properties.Acknowledgments: UNIFRAN, FAPESP, CAPES and CNPq

    No full text
Purpose: Although the standardization of disinfection processes by national and international organizations, there is a contamination of dialysis machines caused by fungus, especially in the biofilm growth (microorganisms held together by exopolymeric substance and adhered to a surface), has increased patient's risk of acquiring infection. In addition, concentration of nutrients in the ambient, salinity, pH and oxygenation modulate the biofilm formation. The anti-biofilm activity of peracetic acid, a disinfectant recently introduced for the disinfection of hemodialysis machines, against Fusarium biofilms was evaluated under two oxygenation conditions. The concentrations tested were 0.1% and 0.2%, with 30 minutes and 10 minutes exposure duration, respectively. Methods: The biofilms were formed in microaerophilic and aerophilic conditions in 96-well microplates at 30 ° C for 72 hours, determining their cell viability by the tetrazolium salt reduction assay (XTT). Results: The results showed that 0.2% peracetic acid during 10 minutes effectively reduced the metabolic activity of Fusarium biofilms (p<0.05). Comparative analysis between aerophilia and microaerophilia showed higher efficiency for the microaerophilic condition (p <0.001). Conclusion: The 0.2% peracetic acid with a 10 min-exposure time showed to be a potent agent for disinfection of the dialysis machines infected with Fusarium biofilms. Disinfection efficiency can contribute to a better quality of life for patients who require renal replacement therapy, as well as reduce the costs of the public health system, reducing hospitalization for infection
