写真による高齢者の地域生活把握の試み : 写真・ナラティブ誘出法 (PEN-A: Photo Eliciting Narrative Approach) による写真とナラティブの内容分析を中心として

    No full text
We developed a new interview and analytical approach for use in community research. The approach was named the Photo Eliciting Narrative Approach (PEN-A), which was based on the Photo Projective Method. PEN-A is a method for understanding a participants' perceived environment by using photographs. Elderly participants (N=14) were provided with digital cameras and were requested to take photographs related to their daily lives in their community for about a week. Subsequently, while watching the photographs on a monitor, we asked the participants why they had taken the particular photos. Content analysis of the data that consisted of the photographs and the narratives of elderly indicated that they actively used social support provided by their friends and spouses in their daily lives. Moreover, it was suggested that PEN-A could be a useful approaches for conducting community research aimed at clarifying the current living conditions of elderly people in detail.Articleコミュニティ心理学研究.18(1):42-57(2014)journal articl

T-DNA Tagging-Based Gain-of-Function of OsHKT1;4 Reinforces Na Exclusion from Leaves and Stems but Triggers Na Toxicity in Roots of Rice Under Salt Stress

    No full text
The high affinity K+ transporter 1;4 (HKT1;4) in rice (Oryza sativa), which shows Na+ selective transport with little K+ transport activity, has been suggested to be involved in reducing Na in leaves and stems under salt stress. However, detailed physiological roles of OsHKT1;4 remain unknown. Here, we have characterized a transfer DNA (T-DNA) insertion mutant line of rice, which overexpresses OsHKT1;4, owing to enhancer elements in the T-DNA, to gain an insight into the impact of OsHKT1;4 on salt tolerance of rice. The homozygous mutant (the O/E line) accumulated significantly lower concentrations of Na in young leaves, stems, and seeds than the sibling WT line under salt stress. Interestingly, however, the mutation rendered the O/E plants more salt sensitive than WT plants. Together with the evaluation of biomass of rice lines, rhizosphere acidification assays using a pH indicator bromocresol purple and (NaCl)-Na-22 tracer experiments have led to an assumption that roots of O/E plants suffered heavier damages from Na which excessively accumulated in the root due to increased activity of Na+ uptake and Na+ exclusion in the vasculature. Implications toward the application of the HKT1-mediated Na+ exclusion system to the breeding of salt tolerant crop cultivars will be discussed.ArticleINTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF MOLECULAR SCIENCES.19(1):235(2018)journal articl

Terminal-Specific Interaction between Double-Stranded DNA Layers: Colloidal Dispersion Behavior and Surface Force

    No full text
Double-stranded DNA-grafted nanoparticles (dsDNA-NPs) exhibit a unique dispersion behavior under high-salt conditions depending on the pairing status of their outermost base pairs (pairing or unpairing). The dsDNA-NPs having complementary (i.e., pairing) outermost base pairs spontaneously aggregate under high-salt conditions, but not when their outermost base pairs are mismatched (unpairing). In this study, we used colloidal probe atomic force microscopy to examine how the outermost base pairs affect the interaction between the dsDNA-grafted layers (dsDNA layers). To precisely assess the subtle structural differences in the dsDNA layers, we developed a method for the formation of a homogenous dsDNA layer on gold surfaces using hairpin shaped DNAs. Homogenous dsDNA layers having complementary (G-C) or mismatched (C-C) outermost base pairs were grafted onto the surfaces of colloidal probes and gold substrates. Force distance curves measured in an aqueous medium under high-salt conditions revealed that the surface forces between the dsDNA layers were bilateral in nature and were governed by the outermost base pairs. Between complementary outermost dsDNA layers, the surface force changed from repulsive to attractive with an increase in the NaCl concentration (10-1000 mM). The attraction observed under high-salt conditions was attributed to the site-specific interaction proceeded only between complementary dsDNA terminals, the so-called blunt-end stacking. In fact, between mismatched outermost dsDNA layers, the repulsive force was mostly dominant within the same NaCl concentration range. Our results clearly revealed that the pairing status of the outermost base pairs has significant implications for the surface forces between dsDNA layers, leading to the unique dispersion behavior of dsDNA-NPs.ArticleLANGMUIR.32(49):13296-13304(2016)journal articl

Decoding Error of Sudoku for Erasure Channels

    No full text
Sudoku is a pencil puzzle. The aim of the solver is to complete the 9×9 grid by filling in a digit in every cell according to a certain rule. In this study, we regard the process of solving Sudoku as a process of decoding a codeword from a received word, and show the expected decoding error probability for erasure channels obtained by experiments.ArticleIEICE Transactions on Fundamentals of Electronics, Communications and Computer Sciences.E100.
