A special forum entitled "Negotiating Academic Book Contracts and Intellectual Property Rights " with Ken 
Waschsberger (National Writers Union) will be on Monday April 16th @ Noon in the Women's Studies Colloquium 
Center in Old Chemistry  1st floor.  This event is sponsored by your UUP Chapter .
Chapter Election Ballots  are due in Albany by April 11th.  Please read the Special Election Edition of The Insight  for 
names and statements of the various candidates for chapter offices and delegates.  All UUP members can Vote for 
President, Secretary and Treasurer, All UUP Academic members vote for Vice President  for Academics and for 
Academic delegates, likewise UUP Professionals vote for Vice President for Professionals and for Professional 
Delegates. 
NYSUT Benefit, Consumer Credit Counseling Service
Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Central NY is a non-profit community service organization that has provided 
free confidential counseling since 1972 and serves all NYS.  all information shared verbally and in writing with CCCS 
will be kept in strictest confidence and managed within all legal and ethical considerations.
Credit Budget Counseling
A financial counseling session includes a review of income, expenses and debt to create a plan for achieving financial 
goals; tips on money management; and alternates for handling a financial crisis.  Counseling is available by phone, 
mail or online and is provided free of charge.
Certified Housing Counseling
As a HUD-certified counseling agency, CCCS offers pre-purchase counseling, mortgage & rental default counseling, 
and Reverse Equity Mortgage certification, all provided free of charge.
Debt Repayment 
Licensed by the NYS Banking Dept., the dept repayment plan is structured to help you repay creditors over time and 
is available for a sliding scale fee online, by phone or mail) with hardship waivers available.

ANOTHER IN THE LINE OF GREAT LIBRARY SERVICES COMMITTEE PROGRAMS :
On Tuesday, February 5 (Javits, 12-1:30 pm)  there is a presentation on Galaxy Quest: An 
Introduction to Galaxy , a demonstration of the new Federated Search System and a discussion 
on how it may affect the Library Web Site, Reference, Bibliographic Instruction, etc. 
  
For those of you not familiar with the term, a federated search engine is a system that enables 
users to search and retrieve information from more than one database at a time.  In addition, it 
does not require users to be familiar with the wide variety of searching interfaces. 
For our initial implementation of this system, we have enabled 50 databases to be searched by 
Galaxy and we refer to those as the "federated databases".  The rest of our databases also 
appear on the Galaxy interface, and can be searched directly by clicking on their titles, just as 
in the past. We refer to these as "link only databases." 
CANCELLATION OF PROGRAM ON FEB. 5:
The lecture and book-signing featuring Tracey L. Walters has been cancelled (as of last week).  
It seems that her book, African American Literature and the Classicist Tradition, is not readily 
available at this time.  At authors' programs the featured book can be purchased and then 
signed by the writer.
