The future of work in the smart city: Managing virtual work by leveraging smart cities to achieve organizational strategy
Get PDFThe goal of the organization is to maintain and increase productivity of its resources including human capital. A clear assessment of all the available resources to management provides requisite information to enable them to allocate work tasks and monitor and assess outputs. The way work is done is changing across most industries and the future of work is one that has been celebrated and researched by experts and scholars alike. The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has opened up the virtual work sphere as a paradigm for all organizations to explore, and many otherwise traditional work arrangements are beginning to innovate around how their work functions are achieved. This paper explores the concepts of smart cities, the future of work and virtual work. And through a mixed method of interviews and surveys identifies how organizations are leveraging on the advantages of smart cities in planning and implementing work arrangements for their employees in order to cope with the current pandemic and what their strategy would be overall when the situation comes back to normal. About 8 top managers were interviewed and 59 employees currently working virtually were surveyed. Responses were analysed and connectivity, flexibility and autonomy were identified as factors organizations considered as they planned and implemented virtual work arrangements. And their outlook for the future certainly included virtual work arrangement for at least a fraction of their employees as working from home, cafes, hotels etc has become a norm today and is generally accepted as a legitimate work arrangement between organizations and their employees
Prospects for development of “smart cities†in Bulgaria
No full textThis study studies the attitudes of young people in Sofia regarding potential purchase of real estate in highly urbanised city areas, as well as their knowledge and preferences concerning the so called “smart citiesâ€. The degree to which young people would be inclined to acquire properties in these particular areas could determine the state of the property market in the long term. Information about young people’s preferences would help synchronise the opportunities provided by technologies with the users’ needs and their capabilities to adapt and benefit from technologies to their full capacity. An important aspect is the increasing means that need to be invested in a purchase of a home in a “smart cityâ€. It is useful to establish what part of the population could afford such an investment. Answering these questions would be useful to property developers and local governments equally, so they can update their priorities and meet the current needs of the population
Adapting fiscal polities for the Covid 19 pandemic. Setting up a fiscal system appropriate for the digital world
Get PDFIn the current context generated by the Covid 19 pandemic, Member States need secure tax revenues to invest in people and businesses affected by the health crisis. At the same time, we need to remove the tax barriers and make it easier for EU businesses to innovate, invest and grow. To achieve this, in July 2020, the EU Commission adopted the Action Plan, which includes measures to reduce the administrative burdens, improve tax compliance and combat fraud. The Action Plan is helping to create a more fair, easier tax system to be used and adapted to our digital world. In case of this article there were used tools like as: classification, synthesis, comparative analysis, induction and deduction methods, graphic representation of events and investigated phenomenons. The article is addressed to the university and the academic world, as well as to fiscal administration officials and to the decision-making factors for correcting inequalities, created by the Covid 19 pandemic
Open data availability in Croatian local government: Improving the quality of life
Get PDFTurbulent times marked by fast societal changes and various people or nature induced crises point to the need to improve citizens’ quality of life (QoL). With the accelerated technological development, the information technology and data are becoming increasingly used as a tool for the improvement of QoL. The development of Open Data (OD) portals, which display vast amount of public sector data, is one of the means to help creating a new value for the society and economy. The goal of this paper is to assess the availability of local government OD through OD portals and its potential to improve the quality of life of the local community. This research focuses on the analysis of the availability and content of the OD on the OD portals will be carried out on the example local governments in Croatia. The paper explores (1) To what extent is local government OD available to users (citizens, private sector, civil sector) via OD portals? (2) Is there a potential for the available OD to improve the quality of life? The results show that only a minority of local governments (less than two percent) publish their datasets on the OD portals, that the number and technical features of datasets is modest, and that they lack wider applicability. Compared to Eurostat QoL typology, citizens’ everyday life is hardly to be improved, although available OD might positively affect political and economic dimension of QoL The findings open up new research questions for academics, but also have implications to practitioners indicating the shortcomings in the approach to OD. The paper innovatively links the availability of data with QoL typology, given that the improvement of citizens lives is at the core of concept of OD

The future is here inspired by myths and legends and represented by Michio Kaku in his futuristic visions. Our proposed work is to visualise some of these ideas into smart concepts for the future. One form of advancement in communication technology is new media, which is known as digital technology, which then gave birth to social media. One political actor is the regional head. Ganjar Pranowo, as one of the local leaders, carried out political communication by establishing close relations with the community, collaborating with various parties to show the performance that had carried out by utilizing social media as a medium of contact with the public. The method used in this research is to use social media analysis with Nvivo 12 Plus. Based on the study from Nvivo stated that Ganjar Pranowo\u27s Political Communication focuses on political and government matters. Ganjar Pranowo aggressively promotes #VisitJawaTengah and #JatengGayeng. Mention interactions from Twitter Ganjar Pranawo and Taj Yasin Maimoen are the most common interactions based on Word similarity. Based on this, it can see that Ganjar Pranowo provides information to the public by utilizing social media as a medium of political communication

Here, we cite for example: the world of banks, telecommunications, service companies ... even the public sector such as: education, culture, administration.Future museums may also contribute to human culture in a society witnessing rapid changes via smart museum technology that encourages constructive participation with the public.Digital technologies did not emerge overnight in museums and started by replacing conventional analog broadcasting media without altering the experience of visitors. What is really new is the appearance, which includes screens near the works giving more information.The term "virtual museum" has been defined as follows: "... a collection of digitized objects logically articulated and composed of various supports which, due to its connectivity and character multi-access, allow you to transcend traditional modes of communication and interaction with the visitor... ".Our study case will also reach the Virtual Museum of the National Museums Foundation Rabat Morocco. Digitalization and smartening sustainable city development: an investigation from the high north European cities
Get PDFThe European High North (EHN) region faces distinct challenges in terms of socio-economic, cultural and environmental infrastructure. As a peripheral region, it is usually characterised as being geographically distant, with a sparse population, relatively poor physical and economic infrastructure, and far from major administrative hubs located mostly in its southern areas. Integrating new technology as a well-established phenomenon, particularly digital innovation, in regional development strategies has been found enormously relevant and beneficial for the citizens inhabiting this region. In effect, the EHN’s sustainability depends on the efficient management of land use and natural resources, economic and human activities, and services and facilities. The expansion of digital technology and its appearance in many areas of the everyday lives of people and communities provide better efficiencies in the context of service design and infrastructural development. Given that the EHN is relatively better progressed than similar peripheral regions and has therefore set an example of modern development in the area of digitalisation, this paper analyses the realities of the cities of Tromsø in Norway and Rovaniemi in Finland as case studies of providing potentially ‘smarter’, efficient, and modern services that combine development, sustainability, and human wellbeing

Regional policy in Bulgaria has its own peculiarities. They are the result of changes in the country\u27s economic system in 1989. The institutions, economic and financial instruments for conducting an effective and efficient regional policy are indicated. The implementation of all types of regional policy are a prerequisite for the development of settlements and of cities in modern European in particular. Big cities are a driving force in the development of the European Union
