The Parliamentary Rules of Procedure of the Sixth Grand National Assembly
Get PDFUnder consideration in the article are the debates and the adopted provisions in the Rules of Procedure of the VIth Grand National Assembly. A special emphasis is placed on the typical and characteristic features of the Rules of Procedure as well as on the particularities that it reveals, as being adopted for a parliament that is bound to adopt entirely new Constitution. There are some provisions in the Rules of Procedure that are relevant both to the constituent power and to the constituted power. Under analysis are the adopted provisions that are contrary to the provisions in force at the time of the 1879 Tarnovo Constitution, as well as the rule of law principles
When food mobilizes emotions: Reaching foreign and domestic audiences
Get PDFThis paper aims to explore food films and their symbolism. Food is a way of creating national identities, and enhancing the sense of belonging. It also evokes the concept of ‘nostalgia’ and has the capacity to mobilize strong emotions (Mintz 1996). The semiotic analysis of food underlines how the biosphere and the semiosphere intersect in various instances of human life (Danesi 2004). In cultural settings, food symbolizes substance and conveys different meanings. This research material will focus on the analysis of images (food, culinary preparations and different eating events) as portrayed in Tassos Boulmetis’s 2003 film Πολίτικη Κουζίνα/ A Touch of Spice, and the domestic and international trailers of the film. The analysis will be based on Lotman’s notion of the semiosphere
Puritan Projections In Nathaniel Hawthorn's "The Scarlet Letter" And Stephen King's "Carrie"
No full textIt is considered that the Puritans that populated New England in the 17th century left a distinctive mark on the American culture. The article explores some projections of Puritan legacy in two American novels of different periods – Nathaniel Hawthorn's The Scarlet Letter (1850) and Stephen King's Carrie (1974). After establishing a connection between the Puritan writings and gothic literature, the two novels are analyzed in terms of some Puritan projections, among which are the problem of guilt and the acceptance of an individual in the society. Some references regarding the idea of the witch and the interpretations it bears, especially in terms of the female identity, are also identified. Despite the different approach of the authors in terms of building their characters, those references are mostly used in a negative way, as an instrument of criticism and exposing inconvenient truths
