The concept of corporate social responsibility and the transition to sustainable development in Bulgaria – opportunities and problems& the management challenges

    No full text
The paper presents an assessment of the opportunities for the Bulgarian economy and the Bulgarian business to move towards sustainable development under the concept of corporate social responsibility. On the part of CSR supporters, the concept in question is not just a channel for a transition to sustainability; they identify it with sustainable development. This paper is not intended to deny the concept of CSR, but to specify the limitations to CSR on the road to sustainability, on the one hand, and the defi cits related to CSR adoption in business management practice in Bulgaria. Based on a theoretical analysis within the system approach, the relationship between the two is interpreted: the concept of CSR and the concept of sustainable development. The main challenges to the process of CSR transformation into a means of transition to sustainability have been identifi ed. Results from a representative empirical study by other authors on CSR issues are also commented on

Questions of the overall dependability of the scada system in the corporate infrastructure

    Get PDF
The paper considers the peculiarities of the SCADA (energy infrastructure management system in the railway infrastructure), as well as issues of the overall dependability in the corporate infrastructure, which is the aim of the study. The study, based on the accepted structure and values of the parameters, examines what depends on and how the readiness factor of a SCADA system changes when the recovery intensity changes and at a fixed failure rate. The results show that with increasing recovery intensity, the readiness factors of the telecommunications network and SCADA system thus defined increase, while reducing the downtime. For a more in-depth study of the overall reliability of the SCADA system, it is necessary to set specific normatively accepted dependability parameters of all connected elements, as well as a real set structure. Based on the fact that with backup resources provided, a defined dependability of the system can be ensured at preset values of the reliability parameters of its components and the backup structure; the opposite problem can also be solved. The proposed approach for studying the reliable behavior of the SCADA system within the corporate infrastructure can be noted as a contribution of the present work and conclusions are made for the practical use of the results

This paper is considered to be a continuation of a previous publication devoted to tendencies in the applications of advanced technology solutions to strengthen the cybersecurity of critical infrastructure (Yearbook Telecommunications, vol. 6, 2019). The specificity of the research is related to tracing the evolution of artificial neural networks (ANN) from their establishment to their modelling and simulation. The theoretical framework involves a well-supported rationale by some practical examples of advanced methods of design and simulation of ANN using SIMBRAIN. These methods are applicable in Cognitive science and Robotics because of their contribution to scientific researches related to study of perceptions and behaviors, abilities of decision making, pattern recognition and morphological analysis and etc

    No full text
This article presents some trends in educational policy in Ukraine in recent decades as a prerequisite for improving the language competences of young people there. Among the challenges hindering the successful acquisition of a foreign language is the low personal motivation of learners. Observations and positive personal experiences from the author’s participation as a volunteer in an international GoCamp project aimed at increasing motivation to learn English, German and French in informal settings in small towns in Ukraine are shared. For many children and young people, extracurricular activities with foreign volunteers during summer language camps (projects, educational games, quizzes, discussions, arts and sports activities, etc.) are the first steps towards developing intercultural communicative competence, without which success in a globalizing world is difficult to achieve
