Beyond Mona Lisa’s smile: A theoretical approach to the persuasion of likeness in the digital image
In this article we discuss the digital image as a form of representation of likeness in the digital environment. The English word likeness entails the meaning of similarity that in the theory of rhetoric constitute persua-siveness. Likeness is an implicit and often taken for granted quality of the communicative performance of digital media. While the term image is a ty-pological classification, semiotic relations of the transfer of meaning can be described with the terms icon and simulacrum. We show their presence in the digital environment tracing their tradition of their function regarding the establishing of likeness to philosophical ideas. We exemplify with the case of the digital images as derivations from the portrait Mona Lisa that the appearance as an image of all what is displayed on the screen consti-tutes the specific likeness of digitality. The persuasiveness of digital images is in line with the theory of rhetoric in an exaggerated presence of the im-age as source of aesthetic perception with the sense of sight of the viewer
Semantic Interpretations of Proper Names in Literary Translation: Terry Pratchett’s “Wyrd Sisters” in Bulgarian
Name crafting has been and still is of importance when devising a literary character with certain traits and features that are meant to outstand a character’s personality. Thus, literary names serve as a handy tool in any piece of writing, since they complete their bearers in a discrete, yet a vivid way when given an appropriate name by the author of a piece of writing. As far as fantasy is concerned, the choice of literary names is freer, but still requires more creativity, given the fact that fantasy names can be translated. When rendered from one language into another, names undergo various structural alterations, semantic modulations, or even syntactic reconstructions. Therefore, the current paper aims at analysing literary names in Terry Pratchett’s fantasy novel “Wyrd Sisters” with focus on their rendering into Bulgarian. Etymology and semantic interpretations are to be sought for as well as morphological and syntactic structure of names in both languages of interest in favour of the hypothesis that literary names carry meaning which, when revealed, gives a more concrete idea of a personage in a novel
A methodology for empirical research and analysis in the field of cybersecurity
This article is considered to be a continuation of a publication by the author devoted to an algorithm for steganographic embedding of encrypted files in raster images (Yearbook Telecommunication, №9, 2022). The aim of this paper is proposing a methodology for empirical research and analysis on the field of cybersecurity which to contribute to various areas in cybersecurity. Its originality is expressed in the joint application of methods for research and analysis realized by various simulation environments for conducting experiments. This methodology has a specific structure as it is conditionally divided into two major parts depending on the type of the simulation process and software products used – a study of the direct impact of cyberattacks on communication networks by the method of the agent-based modelling and a study of potential steganography attacks using software for simulation of Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) for the purposes of steganalysis
An algorithm for steganographic embedding of encrypted files in raster images
The aim of this paper is proposing a method for the application of algorithms for hiding an encrypted file inside of a digital image for cybersecurity purposes. The originality of the method is expressed in the possibility of studying the mathematical algorithms for creating computer graphics. The development of a comprehensive algorithm should contribute to the practical realization of the method proposed. It emphasizes on built-in algorithms in software systems for creating computer graphics and the advantages of steganographic embedding by opensource products that hides any archive file in a digital image. Its application contribution is supported by practical examples of software hiding and archiving an encrypted file in a graphic image
Nature and specifics in the recognition of faces and objects
Identification of persons is a method of collecting and verifying evidence, which establishes the identity between the persons presented for identification and those who are claimed in the testimony of the identifier. The main purpose of the identification is the collection of evidence and verification of existing ones, which can be done through the formed investigative versions. The identification, along with the inspection, search, seizure and investigative experiment as means of proof in criminal proceedings, is carried out in the presence of witnesses
Administrative rights and obligations of the patient
The medical administrative law is a field in the administrative property law – a special field, and regulates the public relations in the healthcare system in relation to: the activity of hospitals and similar medical bodies for hospitalization, diagnosis practices and treatment of patients with different conditions, the medical activities regarding the out-of-hospital emergency cases - consultation and treatment by practitioners competent in all fields of medicine, specialized doctors and surgeons as well as the dentists’ general and specialized practice, the relations between medical professionals and patients. The article displays the rights and duties of the patients. The analysis also considers the violation of improper exercise and implementation of various health rights and obligations that are related to administrative liability
Historical and legal analysis of the census of the population in Bulgaria in the period 1879–2010
This article analyzes sixteen censuses of the Bulgarian population in the period from 1879 to 2010. This work provides information on the normative and bylaws regulating the organization and stages through which the population censuses pass during the considered periods. The article traces the migration processes from the end of the 19th century to the beginning of the 20th century in the Bulgarian state, as well as a number of historical events that had a serious impact on the structure of the population. Attention is paid to the waves of refugees observed in the 20s of the 20th century, as the latter brought enormous financial and economic consequences for Bulgaria. Data on birth rate, death rate and natural population growth are presented. The age composition and educational status of the enumerated population is studied, as well as the degree of urbanization during some of the enumerations of the Bulgarian population
