Data analysis of the observation on spiders (Araneae) diversity in the Bulgarian part of Osogovo mauntain
Osogovo Mountain occupies the largest part of the Osogovo-Belasitsa region and is located in its northernmost part. The highest point of the mountain is Mount Ruen (2251 m). In general, the Osogovo Mountain has an asymmetrical character: steep northern slopes, relatively sloping and separated by numerous ridges eastern and southwestern slopes, which is a prerequisite for the presence of rich biodiversity. The aim of this study is to establish the biodiversity (species composition) and more important biological, ecological and zoogeographical features of spiders (Araneae) from the Bulgarian part of the Osogovo Mountain
Kristeva’s Ontological Approach to Limit and Secondary Identification with the Mother
I propose an ontological approach via Hegel to Kristeva's notion of archaic loss, specifically her theory of secondary identification with the mother. I argue that she elaborates the pre-Oedipal relation to the mother as part of the presupposition that Hegel's Modernity realizes history's empty transmission of trauma. Trauma functions as a critique of dialectic in crisis, by Derrida and Nancy, on the basis of Hegel's work of loss and the return of loss "for us." Because of Kristeva's work on the semiotic and signification, the implication of ontological loss in this approach also allows her to develop especially her view of sublimation in divergence, from Lacan's approach to Antigone and the limit of the human
Julia Kristeva and a Collective Semiotic in a Social Body
Julia Kristeva distinguishes between the semiotic and the symbolic as they apply to the individual human body. This essay argues that there is a similar application to the social, political, economic, and cultural body. This “social body” possesses its own collective semiotic, which could be seen as bringing about social change in a Lotmanian semiosphere, the space of meaning generation without which language cannot exist. In the semiosphere, strategic communication can lead to either hegemony or counter-hegemony, where organic intellectuals, charismatic authority, and meta-signs emerge and in which system and lifeworld fuse in a postmodern hyperreal. Such a hyperreal is the result of a collective semiotic playing at multiple levels. This has similarities to Kristeva’s fourfold signifying practices in a collectivity: the collective and the individualistic dimensions of sociology interpenetrate her work
Waste bioconversion by black soldier fly (Hermetia illucens)
Black soldier fly larvae have (Hermetia illucens) emerged as a promising sustainable protein source for animal feed. However, their commercial-scale production often relies on costly feedstocks. This study investigates the feasibility of incorporating biological waste from juice production into larval diets. The objective is to determine the optimal inclusion rate of this waste, up to 30%, without compromising larval growth, development, and nutritional quality. By evaluating larval biomass, survival rates, and nutrient profiles, this research aims to contribute to the development of more cost-effective and environmentally friendly BSFL production practices
Landslide crises in Bulgaria for the period 2010 – 2020
Crises, caused by landslides, are registered every year in Bulgaria. Official statistic data analysis for the period 2010 – 2020 show a reduction in their number after the reported peak in 2015. Nearly half of the total number of crises in our country are registered in only three regions located in two landslide areas
Embracing Full Openness: Transitioning ESNBU from CC BY-NC to CC BY
This editorial explores the rationale behind transitioning the ESNBU journal’s content licensing from CC BY-NC (Attribution-NonCommercial) to CC BY (Attribution). For a decade, the journal operated under the CC BY-NC license to restrict commercial use, but this approach has unintentionally limited its reach and visibility. The objective is to address these limitations and promote unrestricted dissemination of scholarly content. The analysis involved a review of the journal’s indexing history, feedback from database providers, and usage statistics over the past ten years. We examined cases where the NC clause hindered the journal's inclusion in databases, especially those operated by commercial or for-profit entities. We also reviewed existing literature on licensing impacts in open access publishing to understand broader trends and potential benefits of a transition to CC BY. The study found that the NonCommercial restriction created significant barriers to the journal's visibility and dissemination. Several commercial and academic databases opted not to index the journal's content due to ambiguity around the "commercial use" clause. By transitioning to a CC BY license, we anticipate enhanced indexing opportunities, increased content integration into educational resources, and a broader reach, ultimately leading to higher citation rates and greater impact. Moving to a CC BY license aligns the journal with the principles of Open Science, fostering unrestricted access to knowledge. This change supports wider dissemination, potential for increased collaboration, and enhanced visibility in academic databases. Future analysis will focus on measuring the impact of this transition on the journal's citation metrics, user engagement, and overall accessibility
Academic ESP Courses in a Hybrid Mode: Attitudes and Perceptions
Developing academic ESP courses in a hybrid mode has come to the forefront of the educational agenda due to social and economic reasons: technological advance followed by the emergence of new communication, business and education technologies; new generations of learners who grow up in virtual reality rather than in real life; commercialisation of education; changes in workplaces and business organisations; a pandemic that resulted in increased use of the electronic and hybrid modes of interacting and working. In light of these circumstances, the research on the key actors in the educational process – learners and teachers – has gained importance and has become the reason to initiate a study of these actors’ attitudes and perceptions with regard to the academic ESP courses in a hybrid mode. The article presents and discusses the results from a survey conducted within this study and related to the preparation of reference criteria for course design in terms of parameters. Data analysis has implications for the educational sector in terms of language and subject course development, as well as of the introduction of relevant policies in higher education
Exploring the Linguistic Patterns of Gratitude: A Comparative Analysis of Acknowledgments in Philosophy PhD Theses
Acknowledgments as expressions of gratitude are not only mere formalities in academia but also represent heartfelt attempts by researchers to acknowledge the support that shaped their academic journeys. They are a specific academic genre in which personal texts are produced as a part of academic genres such as theses or books. Hence, a systematic understanding of the linguistic features of this specific genre may contribute to the literature on academic writing. Comparing expressions of gratitude across English, German, and Turkish L1 academic contexts, this study presents a detailed picture of linguistic patterns in Ph.D. thesis acknowledgments in the field of Philosophy. We found that thanking for academic purposes was the main reason for gratitude in the three cultures. Our analysis also revealed the influence of cultural and linguistic nuances on the syntactic patterns of gratitude in the three contexts. We concluded that while acknowledgments remain deeply personal and emotionally charged, they adhere to genre-specific encoding patterns and share common lexical preferences, which require explicit instruction in academic writing courses
