Academic Integrity Policies in HEIs Across Cultures
Academic integrity is a cornerstone of higher education, ensuring that students engage in honest and ethical practices in their pursuit of knowledge. The implementation of academic integrity policies varies across countries, reflecting the unique cultural, societal, and educational contexts of each nation. This article compares academic integrity policies in New Zealand, Australia, and Canada to those in Bulgaria, highlighting the similarities and differences that exist between these diverse educational landscapes. The study applies the well-known methodology by Bretag et al. (2011) whereby an exemplary academic integrity model is evaluated on the basis of five components, namely access, approach, responsibility, detail and support. This methodology is enriched by a modification suggested by Perkins and Roe (2023) in which a sixth component is added – technological explicitness, which involves the necessity to include and constantly update information and provide guidelines about new technologies
Digital realities and metaphorical constructs: A multimodal semiotic and intermedial analysis of Blade Runner 2049
The concept of metaphor has long been explored in film in a variety of ways, from Eisenstein’s experimentations to more contemporary examples. Contemporary theoreticians such as Forceville (2016) have enhanced the concept of metaphor, moving away from its purely linguistic quality and underlying its multimodal aspect. In this article, we will use Force-ville’s paradigm of multimodal metaphors as implemented in films. We will analyse Blade Runner 2049 (Villeneuve 2017), focusing on its representation of digital reality through multimodal metaphors. The film, widely acclaimed for its philosophical depth (Shanahan et al. eds. 2020) and visual storytelling, is set in a dystopian future where human-like androids coexist with humans and serve as a means for exploring digital metaphors in a society dominated by artificial intelligence and augmented reality. We examine the film’s use of visual, auditory, and narrative elements, in order to construct a metaphorical framework that reflects contemporary digital concerns. Through an in-depth exploration of its visual, auditory, and narrative dimensions, this analysis uncovers a dense metaphorical structure within the film. This structure mirrors pressing societal concerns regarding the evolution and impact of digitalisation, augmented reality, and artificial intelligence, providing a critical lens on contemporary technological advancements. The study aims to enrich the discourse on digital metaphors in media, highlighting the evolving interplay between human experiences and technological advancements
The Health Condition of Motor Vehicle Drivers – A Key Factor for Road Safety
The article familiarizes us with the requirements for the health status of motor vehicle drivers (MVS), which is key to the safety of road traffic. The focus of the analysis is placed on some specific health conditions requiring additional medical examination by specialized committees of the Transport Regional Medical Expert Commission (TOLEK) or the Transport Central Medical Expert Commission (TCLEK). At the moment, the main accompanying problem can be pointed out as untimely information about the health status of some drivers falling into the considered category. The lack of up-to-date and complete information, as well as a mechanism regarding their subsequent certification, could lead to difficult administrative service for issuing a motor vehicle driving license (SUMPS), as well as endanger the safety of road traffic participants. With some examples, the author has tried to illustrate the seriousness of the problem. To solve the information deficit, some proposals are made in the final part of the development
The Figure of the Imaginary Father in the Autobiographical Writing of M. Yourcenar
In the present paper I read Marguerite Yourcenar’s autobiographical trilogy Le labyrinthe du monde through Kristeva’s concept of the imaginary father. My interpretation aims to trace the way the androgynous figure of the imaginary father acts in a liberatory way and also stimulates Yourcenar’s own work. The retroactive invention of an imaginary origin is associated with the figure of a loving father. Yourcenar traces her genealogy – on the one hand, she identifies with her familial lineage; on the other, she claims that the composition of her ancestry relates much more to her literary precursors and her fictional characters. Yourcenar’s identification appears not on the side of matricide and the powers of horror, but exactly the opposite – on the side of the imaginary father and creative potential
Temperatyre instrumentation technologies
The present article presents a review of technologies and means in the field of temperature measurement for the needs of various production and other processes. The article covers widely used methods and their technological means, such as: thermocouples, bimetallic and other types of thermometers, with a focus on widely used integral sensors with digital interfaces for commercial applications and comparing basic technical parameters. From this presentation we hope that the summarized data can serve in the selection of integral temperature sensors (contact and non-contact)
Methodology for designing, building, configuring, and costing networks for small and medium-sized enterprises
This publication presents a simplified methodology for designing, building, configuring, and costing networks for small and medium-sized enterprises (INTRANET), taking into account current trends in remote work (EXTRANET). It discusses key aspects, as well as the subsequent monitoring and maintenance of the network. Finally, a practical example is provided, applying the simplified methodology for the costing of network components
Educational ecotourism in Bulgaria - opportunities to expand good practices
Educational ecotourism involves travel with learning experiences focused on environmental protection and natural resources sustainable use. The research purpose is to indicate opportunities for good practices expanding in offering educational ecological tourism with an ornithological orientation in Western Bulgaria, along the route of the Via Aristotelis transcontinental bird migration route. Three well-developed destinations have been studied - Kresna Gorge, Eastern Rhodopes, Vrachanski Balkan Natural Park. A proposal has been made to expand their scope by increasing the tourist attractiveness of the Ognyanovo dam as a destination for practicing educational ecological tourism with an ornithological orientation based on an analysis of existing good practices
The Italian infinitive introduced by a determiner and its interpretation in Bulgarian translation
The article examines the constructions of the infinitive preceded by a determiner in Italian and their translation into Bulgarian. Using a corpus of examples, the constructions will be examined from both a structural and functional perspective. Examples from the corpus will serve to distinguish four types of constructions and describe their syntactic characteristics. Analysis of the published Bulgarian translation of the examples from the corpus will complement the discussion and reflections on both the Italian construction and the means by which it could be translated into Bulgarian
