Pour une littérature ukrainienne libre et européenne: polyglottisme et polyglossie chez Lessia Oukraïnka

Where does the eastern frontier of European literature lie? This is the big question posed by Lesya Ukrainka (1871–1913). Although she defended Ukrainian as a literary language, she was at odds with traditionalist Ukrainophiles in that she wanted to develop a Ukrainian literature that was modern through its Europeanness. Hence her polyglottism, her intense activity as a translator, and the fact that she made her own work a truly polyglossic space. Keywords: Lesya Ukrainka; Ukrainian literature; European literature; polyglottism; polyglossia; translationWhere does the eastern frontier of European literature lie? Le roman psychologique et une comparaison tripartite: Colette, Evgenia Dimitrova et Hortensia Papadat-Bengescu

The novel of the first half of the 20th century, modern and modernist across much of Europe, intertwines newly developed scientific ideas about the depths of the human psyche with a newly emerging sense of threat posed by uncontrollable human instincts and, consequently, by fluctuations in the behaviour of the characters. This type of psychological novel also reflects a philosophical perspective on subjective human time and focuses on particular narratological techniques. The article outlines the characteristics of the psychological novel and the specific writing techniques that enable an exploration of the depths of the human psyche. Examples have been drawn from the works of three writers from different European countries: Colette, Evgenia Dimitrova, and Hortensia Papadat-Bengescu.Keywords: 20th century psychological novel; narrative techniques; Colette; Evgenia Dimitrova; Hortensia Papadat-BengescuThe novel of the first half of the 20th century, modern and modernist across much of Europe, intertwines newly developed scientific ideas about the depths of the human psyche with a newly emerging sense of threat posed by uncontrollable human instincts and, consequently, by fluctuations in the behaviour of the characters. Visio pixélisée et l’effet diapo: remédiation romanesque d’une téléconférence numérique dans Rétine de Théo Casciani

The paper aims to put forward a reading of a sub-chapter-long episode in Théo Casciani’s novel Rétine (2019), dedicated entirely to relating a prolonged video call between two characters (of which one is the narrator). Drawing solely on the exemplary scenes from the cited case study, the paper offers a methodological examination of the novelistic text under the angle of poetic representation (or remediation) of digital media and, more specifically, of the contemporary means of teleconferencing. Through a combination of textual analysis and theoretical reflection, the paper sets out to demonstrate that literary intermediality is distinguished by its capacity to engage bilaterally with both mediums getting put into contact, novelistic writing thereby being brought to mobilise unconventional poetical resources, while resorting to procedures of synchronisation between the representing and the represented media that are hardly reducible to the non-poetic uses of language outside of the context of intermedial dialogue established vicariously on the territory of fiction (i.e. by proxy of representation). Keywords: poetics; novelistic writing; intermediality; Casciani; remediation; digital media; slideshowThe paper aims to put forward a reading of a sub-chapter-long episode in Théo Casciani’s novel Rétine (2019), dedicated entirely to relating a prolonged video call between two characters (of which one is the narrator). Memory as an “Unknown Life-Form” – W. G. Sebald and the Contemporary Balkan Novel (or Once More About the Museum Structured Novel)

The article is a kind of “return” to the double optics of the concept concerning the museum in literature and literature in the use of the museum – the museum as a specific narrative model, but also as a cultural metaphor. This is an attempt to trace the possible points of “intersection” between the works of W. G. Sebald and selected novels by contemporary Balkan writers, such as Andreea Răsuceanu, Antonis Georgiu and Galin Nikiforov. The focus of the study is on the museum\u27s “archiving” function to include different narrative forms in the genre of the novel. The comparative analysis highlights the visual transformations of memory in the form of album/ diary/home/temple which constructs a space independent of time and marked by enormous narrative potential in the museum structured novel. Keywords: W.G. Dialoguer par-delà les siècles. Sur quelques défis de la traduction d’oeuvres médiévales françaises aujourd’hui

Every translation is a dialogue between multiple voices. The specific features of medieval literature make its translation both stimulating and complex, requiring cultural and artistic mediation to preserve the spirit and form of the works. Translating French medieval texts involves not only conveying meaning, but also recreating a complex cultural and aesthetic experience. This process requires balancing between faithfulness to the source text, adaptation to modern sensibilities and respect for the artistic form, in order to achieve a cultural encounter that transcends centuries. Keywords: medieval literature; translation; faithfulness; adaptatio

Dialogues, continuité, ouverture: perspectives comparatistes au XXIe siècle

This article is an introduction to the thematic section of the journal Colloquia Comparativa Litterarum (volume 11, 2025). The paper is dedicated to the theme “Dialogues, Continuity, Openness: Comparative Perspectives in the 21st century”. A definition of the three concepts is proposed in the light of the key stages in the evolution of French comparative literature throughout the 20th and into the 21st century. The transition from classical comparatism to post-classical comparatism presupposes the diversification of methods and a certain decompartmentalisation of disciplines. Each of the articles presented in this introduction follows (at least) one comparative line in accordance with the new paths taken by the discipline: dialogues between literature and the arts or sciences, dialogues between continents (Europe and Africa), between periods (the Middle Ages and the contemporary period), parallels between similar women’s writings, but also between feminist solidarities and writings, and finally, the continuity of classical comparative studies, which are evolving towards a post-classical broadening of the subjects, objects, and methods. Keywords: comparative literature; post-classical literary comparatism; openness; dialogue; continuity; interdisciplinaryThis article is an introduction to the thematic section of the journal Colloquia Comparativa Litterarum (volume 11, 2025). Le récit autobiographique et la poésie du sensible à l’épreuve de la cognition

This study challenges the traditional definition of autobiography (cf. Lejeune) and proposes a cognitive approach to the constitution of authors’ autobiographical memory, following the model of Martin Conway et al. S. Freyermuth has chosen to analyse some works by Nan Aurousseau and Jean Rouaud, on the novelistic side, and by Simon-Gabriel Bonnot, on the poetic side, in order to highlight the effectiveness of questioning the traces of autobiographical memory in texts, thus rejecting the necessity of a prior adherence to the autobiographical pact. Keywords: cognition; autobiographical memory; novel; poetry; BonnotThis study challenges the traditional definition of autobiography (cf.
