Interpretations of the Prometheus Myth in Lithuanian Pre-Soviet, Soviet, and Post-Soviet Literature

The article uses comparative and history of ideas methods to review and summarise the inclusion of the universal Prometheus myth in Lithuanian literature. The relevance of this myth began to emerge in the social context of the late 19th century, when the Lithuanian nation was embracing the ideology of nationalism, was searching for its place in political history, and had begun a smooth process of cultural development. The myth, image, and symbol of Prometheus, with new meanings being given to it, has been relevant to Lithuanian authors throughout the entire period of one and a half hundred years in question: from 1883 (when the first periodical Auszra appeared) till 2023. The article presents the most important authors of each period and their works dealing with Promethean themes, as well as the general cultural, literary, and ideological context that conditioned the choice and goals of each author. Keywords: myth of Prometheus; Lithuanian literature; Pre-War, Inter-War, Soviet, and Post-Soviet periods; intertextualit

    За дистопично-утопичното и жанра дистопия-утопия

The essay presents two ideas. First, the philosophical-aesthetic category of the dystopian-utopian is the basis of the literary-philosophical genre of dystopia-utopia in classical socio-political works. And second, it outlines some features of the genres dystopia-utopia and dystopia. The first idea is derived from European critical philosophy. The second is based on Plato, mostly on the Republic, a work that serves as a starting point for the analysis of the dystopia-utopia and dystopia genres. Classical and more recent works, some of which have not been examined as dystopia-utopia, illustrate these theoretical ideas. The essay pays particular attention to the novels Resurrection by Tolstoy and Bend Sinister by Nabokov. Keywords: dystopia; utopia; Plato’s Republic; Tosltoy’s Resurrection; Nabokov’s Bend Siniste

Quadrilatère poétique et dystopique: Maïakovski et Frank O\u27Hara, Essenine et Jim Harrison

The Soviet Union, the perfect example of a dystopia, presented itself as a paradise for the proletariat. The United States, on the other hand, was, at the same time, a land of technical progress and capitalist hell from the Communist point of view. Separated by the Atlantic Ocean, these two best enemies dreamed of and confronted each other. But this is above all a tragic quadrilateral where Mayakovsky and O\u27Hara, Essenin and Harrison meet. For their poetic utopia will collide with dystopian reality. Keywords: poetry; American; Soviet; Mayakovsky; O\u27Hara; Essenin; Harriso

    Heterotopias, Non-Places and Оther Chiasmi

This paper investigates the dichotomy between Dismaland, a dystopian inversion of Disneyland, and Disneyland as an enduring bastion of joyous illusion. Through the lenses of heterotopia, non-places, and chiasmus, it explores how their coexistence authentically grounds one while estranging the other. Banksy\u27s inadvertent use of а chiastic structure in transforming Dismaland is analyzed for its reorganizational logic, and challenging norms. Drawing on Lefebvre, Foucault, Rancière, and Nikolchina, the paper examines cultural representations, spaces, and social relations. The analysis extends to non-places vs. heterotopias, emphasizing Dismaland\u27s resistance to non-place classification. The paper advocates for heterotopias, like Dismaland, to challenge norms and foster alternative cultural production, critiquing interpretations of Situationist theories and proposing Rancière\u27s spatial occupation. The conclusion explores how chiastic structure and heterotopian thinking fuel Dismaland\u27s revolutionary potential, challenging predetermined environments, and underscores art\u27s transformative role in societal evolution towards a renewed existence. Кeywords: Dismaland; Disneyland; heterotopia; dystopia; chiastic structure; non-place

Traduire le néologisme: étude comparative du roman Zazie dans le métro de Raymond Queneau et de sa traduction bulgare

The study seeks to determine the level of adequacy of the transfer into Bulgarian of the neologisms coined by Raymond Queneau in the novel Zazie in the Metro (1959). To this end, we examine the translation strategies implemented in Зази в метрото (2001). Starting from the assumption that, while translation is possible, the degree of translatability of a neologism is variable, we evaluate the relevance of the equivalents proposed by the translator. Keywords: adequacy; equivalence; neologism; Raymond Queneau; translatio
