Forecasting Cryptocurrency Time Series Using Fuzzy Transform, Fourier Transform and Fuzzy Inference System

    No full text
In this paper we propose a new approach for forecasting the cryptocurrency time series, which combines the fuzzy transform and the fuzzy inference system. We also test whether fuzzy transform yields better results forecasting results in comparison to Fourier transform. Finally, we will investigate whether fuzzy rules used in fuzzy inference system can successfully capture high and low volatility moments in the time series, as well as high correlations between the three different cryptocurrencies

The Breast Size Satisfaction Survey (BSSS): Breast size dissatisfaction and its antecedents and outcomes in women from 40 nations

    No full text
The Breast Size Satisfaction Survey (BSSS) was established to assess women's breast size dissatisfaction and breasted experiences from a cross-national perspective. A total of 18,541 women were recruited from 61 research sites across 40 nations and completed measures of current-ideal breast size discrepancy, as well as measures of theorised antecedents (personality, Western and local media exposure, and proxies of socioeconomic status) and outcomes (weight and appearance dissatisfaction, breast awareness, and psychological well-being). In the total dataset, 47.5 % of women wanted larger breasts than they currently had, 23.2 % wanted smaller breasts, and 29.3 % were satisfied with their current breast size. There were significant cross-national differences in mean ideal breast size and absolute breast size dissatisfaction, but effect sizes were small (η2 = .02–.03). The results of multilevel modelling showed that greater Neuroticism, lower Conscientiousness, lower Western media exposure, greater local media exposure, lower financial security, and younger age were associated with greater breast size dissatisfaction across nations. In addition, greater absolute breast size dissatisfaction was associated with greater weight and appearance dissatisfaction, poorer breast awareness, and poorer psychological well-being across nations. These results indicate that breast size dissatisfaction is a global public health concern linked to women's psychological and physical well-being

Performance indicator variance analysis as the statistical method for downsizing/rightsizing

    No full text
Purpose: This article elaborates method for downsizing/rightsizing in public sector enterprises, commonly burdened by the number of employees. Our goal was to develop an understandable, quantitative, objective, reliable and efficient method. Design/methodology/approach: The method design criteria were practical applicability, minimisation of subjectivity and maximisation of procedural justice. Our approach analyses performance indicators, and the amount of invested work, computing variability of the productivity time-series in the observed period. Excessive variation of ratio between performance indicators and amount of invested work indicate downsizing/rightsizing needs, as explained in the article. Method is based on internal benchmarking and thus in the first iteration it gives larger headcount estimation than comparison with industrial leaders, or best public enterprises, but it converges towards optimal headcount in the longer time span with more iterations. Main findings: This method has been applied in 21 different public sector organisation during the successful processes of downsizing/rightsizing, which identified a total of 1 819 redundant workers among 18 806 total employees. After the implementation of our method, we found that the application was the first successful massive downsizing program in that group of enterprises after more than five decades. Originality/value: A novel approach to analyse performance indicator as a measure to estimate downsizing/rightsizing goals. Conclusions/Recommendations: With such trait, it is appropriate as the first step in convergence toward the optimal number of employees. The lateral output of our method is that it demonstrates care about employee performance, tracks it and observes inconsistencies, and it offers a chance to employees to increase productivity in order to avoid downsizing

Going beyond health efficiency: What really matters?

    No full text
Both citizens and policymakers demand the best possible results from a country's healthcare system. It is of utmost importance to accurately and objectively assess the efficiency of a healthcare system and to note the key indicators, where resources are lost, and possibilities for improvement. This paper evaluates the efficiency of health systems in 38 countries, mainly members of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development, using data envelopment analysis (DEA). In the first stage, bootstrapped Ivanovic distance is used to generate weights for the indicators, thus taking into consideration different country's goals, but not to the extent of reducing the possibility of comparison. The analysis shows that human resources are the most important health system resource and countries should pay special attention to developing and employing competent medical workers. The reorganization of human resources and the funds allocated to them could also increase efficiency. The second stage examines environmental indicators to find the causes of inefficiency. No proof is found that any one basic health system funding model produces better health outcomes than the others. Obesity is identified as a major issue

Women Leadership in Public Sector - Evidence from Serbia

    No full text
The role of women in society every day is growing. Women achieve significant business outcomes, along with men, although their efforts are often not evaluated in the same way. Despite their extraordinary commitment to the jobs they perform, women still find themselves in the so-called "glass ceiling" - barriers that prevent them from progressing to better careers and to be equally valued and paid as men. Nowadays, there is a great desire and engagement of all layers of society and the state to change that situation so that women can prove their abilities in the most responsible positions, both in companies and public sectors as well. This paper starts from the fact that there is no favoring of men in relation to women in management positions in the state administration in Serbia, and that the main preconditions for someone to perform these functions are knowledge, education and work experience

A Novel Approach for Determination of Reliability of Covering a Node from K Nodes

    No full text
In this paper, a stochastic problem of multicenter location on a graph was formulated through the modification of the existing p-center problem to determine the location of a given number of facilities, to maximize the reliability of supplying the system. The system is represented by a graph whose nodes are the locations of demand and the potential facilities, while the weights of the arcs represent the reliability, i.e., the probability that an appropriate branch is available. First, k locations of facilities are randomly determined. Using a modified Dijkstra's algorithm, the elementary path of maximal reliability for every demand node is determined. Then, a graph of all of elementary paths for demand node is formed. Finally, a new algorithm for calculating the reliability of covering a node from k nodes (k-covering reliability) was formulated

Key success factors of the crowdsourcing platforms for innovation

    No full text
Purpose: Due to information technology rapid development, the possibility arises to include different ideas and inputs from a large number of people in value creation throughout the innovation process. In this regard, the key success factors (in the form of attributes) of crowdsourcing platforms for innovation can be observed as the main goal of the paper. Design/methodology/approach: The research is conducted in two phases. The first one was oriented towards literature review on crowdsourcing platforms and their attributes, and the second, towards selection and investigation of the platforms. The review was realized through Google Scholar's advanced search based on predefined keywords. Within the resulted search, we chose those papers concerning platforms' attributes. Analyzing these papers, we extracted the attributes for further research. The second phase represents the selection of platforms, which is based on the frequency of their appearance in relevant research and persistence over time. The investigation of various platforms is presently performed through direct analysis of each individual platform in terms of search and recognition of previously defined attribute values. Findings: The results of the review based on the identified design elements (attributes) may well serve as an initial knowledge base of crowdsourcing platforms since it contains featured values for every predefined platform element. Research/practical implications: It is quite possible to assume that our knowledge base can support different companies in their innovation processes management, giving the foundation for creating new concepts of communication and collaboration. Most certainly, future research should be oriented towards recognizing additional attributes and, obviously, towards examining a larger number of platforms. Originality/value: The presented paper makes a positive contribution to the widely present topic in the innovation management field concerning the role of online platforms, especially those related to crowdsourcing for innovation

The integration of social capital and knowledge management - The key challenge for international development and cooperation projects of nonprofit organizations

    No full text
Nonprofit, nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) are important actors in international development (ID) who implement trillions of dollars' worth of projects annually. As with other organizations delivering projects, ID NGOs seem to be failing many stakeholders due to poor delivery of results. Lack, and mismanagement, of social links and knowledge resources have been identified as the biggest challenges of ID NGOs in reaching vulnerable beneficiary populations. We have explored ID NGOs' social capital and knowledge management systems in order to propose an integrated model to optimize ID NGO project management through social resources embedded into organizational structures. The integrated model we propose enables multi-stakeholder engagement in all phases of project life cycle, building a culture of accountability and respect. This model also helps promote smart and flexible solutions to the "wicked " problems ID projects often grapple with, as well as timely adaptation to changed circumstances and unforeseen or challenging events
