Feature Selection Methods In Obesity Prediction: An Experimental Analysis

    No full text
This paper explores the application of machine learning in predicting obesity, a significant global health concern. We specifically examine the impact of three feature selection methods — InfoGain, Chi-squared, and ReliefF, on the performance of classification models using Random Forest and Logistic Regression algorithms. By analyzing an obesity dataset categorized into three and seven classes, we identify key features that contribute to model accura-cy. The models are evaluated using several metrics: Accuracy, Precision, Re-call, Specificity, Sensitivity, and Balanced Accuracy. The findings highlight the role of feature selection in model performance, with the Random Forest algorithm achieving the highest accuracy rate of 96.7%

The Sustainability of Reskilling Projects Based on Employees’ Readiness for a Career Shift: Pursuing Sustainable Careers by Transitioning into IT Professions

    No full text
Today’s organizations are highly responsive to external changes, which they also demand from their employees. All employees need competencies to respond to Industry 4.0, the green business economy, and post-COVID-19 work circumstances and to manage sustainable careers. One way of doing so is to take active part in reskilling projects and be ready for a career shift, which we believe can be foreseen in people’s devotion to sustainable careers and can ensure the sustainability of the whole reskilling project. With the presumption that the concept of sustainable careers can be captured in terms of the concept of readiness for a career shift, this study aims to explore the potential of the scale of readiness for career shifts to predict participants’ success in reskilling projects (in the context of IT professions). The research was conducted on 336 candidates who applied for Java and PHP programming positions and had no previous knowledge or experience in the field. The results show that the scale of readiness for career shifts has acceptable metric characteristics, and canonical discriminant analysis confirmed that the overall score can be used to predict outcomes in the reskilling project, while predictions based on single indicators were rather ambiguous. Therefore, the scale can be used as a tool in the process of selecting reskilling candidates (at least in professional transitions in the domain of IT), but further research on the topic might shed more light on the concept

Sensitivity analysis of the ARWU ranking: Effects of indicator removal

    No full text
University rankings play a crucial role in shaping the perceptions of academic institutions and influencing decisions made by stakeholders. The Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), known as the Shanghai Ranking, is one of the most influential global university rankings currently published. Due to that, the methodology behind this ranking often comes under scrutiny. Two methodological steps of the ARWU ranking that attract researchers' attention are the weighting scheme and indicator selection process. In this paper, we conduct a sensitivity analysis of the ARWU ranking by systematically removing individual indicators and distributing their weight to the remaining indicators. Our results show that the ranking is sensitive to the removal of the indicator related to the number of staff of an institution winning Nobel Prizes and Fields Medals (Award). At the same time, removing the indicator related to the institution's per capita academic performance (PCP) led to slight or no changes in the ranks

Addressing missing data challenges: A multivariate goodness-of-fit testing perspective

    No full text
The problem of missing data is common when dealing with real data sets. Therefore it attracted the attention of scientists across various disciplines. However, its implications on goodness-of-fit testing remain relatively unexplored. In this study, we aim to bridge this gap in the literature by examining modifications to some commonly used tests designed for complete data to accommodate missingness issues. Our objectives are twofold: to demonstrate that the impact of imputation procedures remains significant across all types of missingness and to investigate the properties of test modifications under the assumption of missing completely at random (MCAR) data. Our findings, which include insights into the limiting null distributions for modified characteristic-function-based tests and extensive power analyses, lead to general recommendations for addressing missing data challenges within the context of goodness-of-fit testing

Cost-Benefit Analysis in the Function of Controlling Sustainable Investments

    No full text
In the contemporary business environment, effective investment management becomes a crucial factor for competitiveness and sustainability. This paper explores the role of cost-benefit analysis (CBA) within the framework of controlling sustainable investments, with the aim of identifying ways and extents to improve decision-making processes and contribute to sustainable development. Cost-benefit analysis serves as a quantitative tool that enables the evaluation of economic benefits and costs of investment projects, providing a clear picture of their efficiency and profitability. Within the realm of controlling, investment controlling utilizes CBA for precise monitoring and management of resources, facilitating investment optimization and risk minimization. The paper focuses on the methodology of sustainable CBA statements and their application in the control of sustainable investments. CBA not only allows for a quantitative evaluation of the financial aspects of projects but also integrates sustainability criteria, such as environmental and social impacts, thereby contributing to a holistic approach to decision-making. The research findings indicate that integrating cost-benefit analysis into the function of controlling sustainable investments enhances resource management and the achievement of sustainable goals. The paper concludes that the successful integration of CBA into investment controlling is essential for competitive investment management and long-term sustainability

The HR Managers' Perception of Future Career Paths in the Context of ESG Perspective: Readiness for Sustainable Careers.

    No full text
Abstract Purpose: The research explores the awareness of career changes based on the current career perception, value-based impression, and expectations for the candidates’ careers in the selection process. Methodology: These opinions are supposed to provide an overview of the content definition of the sustainable career notion and the readiness to see a career as a sustainable paradigm among 159 Romanian (53.46%) and Serbian (46.54%) HR managers. The survey is based on three subscale instruments assessing the respondents agreement with the statements implying sustainability in defining a career. Findings: Results show that not all aspects of a sustainable career are emphasised, with the issues of environmental protection being slightly neglected, especially in the Serbian subsample. The environmental aspect of the sustainable career is based on the hybrid perception of the career that values restoration of the natural environment while preserving health through social justice and can be recognised among candidates’ consciousness. Implications: The sociological domain implies career complexity, expecting continuous learning and valuing adaptability, which is visible in the candidate’s responsiveness in the selection process. Governance is covered by disruptiveness that requires new, more individually focused legislative approaches, along with valuing personal accountability and expectations of candidates to be ethically conducting trustworthy partners. Limitations: The sample consists of not ‘naïve’ subjects but rather affected by current sustainable career discourse. Future Research: Incorporate various occupational profiles to understand these differences and insight into their circumstances and the spread of research among other economies to understand their big picture and particularities better

    No full text
