Examining the multiscale interrelationship between ethanol and agricultural commodities

    No full text
This paper investigates the multiscale interdependence between ethanol and three agricultural commodities—corn, wheat, and soybeans—used as feedstock for ethanol production. Two wavelet approaches are applied in the analysis: wavelet coherence and wavelet cross-correlation. The first method reveals the strength of the connection, while the second indicates the leading (or lagging) interconnection between assets. According to the wavelet coherence results, the link between ethanol and agricultural commodities is relatively weak in the short term but progressively strengthens as the time horizon increases. In the short-term horizon, the strongest link is observed between ethanol and corn. Wavelet cross-correlation indicates that the short-term connection is only relevant for ethanol and corn due to their relatively strong short-term relationship. Conversely, all long-term interdependencies are relevant since strong correlations are found at higher wavelet scales. According to the results, larger agricultural markets tend to lead the smaller ethanol market in most cases

Hydrologic conditions quantification for sustainable water resources management of ungauged river basin

    No full text
Misunderstanding of hydrometeorological events frequency spatial and temporal distribution might result in water resources mismanagement (Viessman and Lewis, 1996) with numerous adverse effects on society regardless the hydrologic unit (HU) area (from small catchment to large river basin). An increase in average global temperature will very likely alter hydrological cycle and affect the frequency of extreme events Houghton et al. (2001). Increase in these events (floods, droughts, etc) over the world are evident with expected trend continuity in the future (Liu et al., 2021) but the exact magnitude and spatio-temporal future characteristics are uncertain (Pratap and Markonis,2022). Extension of the river basin capacity to retain precipitation increase their discontinuity with runoff generation (Jevđević, 1956). Low runoff potential indicates good hydrologic conditions (Chin, 2000) and natural and hydrologic features specifically for small river basins have to be evaluated (Žugaj, 2010). Improved retention capacity is a favourable contribution to adaptive and sustainable water resources management. This paper presents methodological framework for ungagged river basin runoff curve number (CN) quantification to assess the potential maximum retention capacity of the catchment (S) and the depth of runoff (Qo)

Digitalna transformacija, pametne inovacije i koncept održivog razvoja

    No full text
The contemporary economy is undergoing fundamental changes driven by digital transformation, a process that is altering lifestyles and redefining business principles across virtually all sectors of production without exception. Digital transformation implies a paradigm shift in business management, supporting and promoting increasingly sophisticated business models designed and driven by digital technologies. The goal of digital transformation at the macro level is sustainable economic growth, which takes into account the principles of the circular economy, emphasizes the significance of smart innovations as an appropriate response to the challenges posed by radical and disruptive changes in overcoming growth barriers in modern economies, recognizes the importance of economic resilience in countries, and raises awareness among people about their collective responsibility for preserving the stocks and flows of natural capital. Digital transformation must be viewed in a systemic context. It represents one of the components of a set of structural transformations, and therefore, it cannot be considered in isolation but must be understood in conjunction with numerous other structural changes in the economy and society.Sаvrеmеnа privreda nalazi se usred suštinskih promena vođenih digitalnom transformacijom, procesa koji menja životni stil ljudi i redefiniše principe poslovanja kompanija gotovo u svim sektorima proizvodnje bez izuzetaka. Digitalna transformacija podrazumeva promenu paradigme u vođenju poslovanja podržavajući i afirmišući sve sofisticiranije poslovne modele dizajnirane i vođene digitalnim tehnologijama.

The role and significance of media ethics in the sustainability of the political system

    No full text
The importance of media ethics in modern society cannot be overestimated. At a time when information spreads at lightning speed, when the boundaries between professional journalism and amateur reporting are increasingly blurred, and social networks allow anyone to become a "source of news", ethical standards are a key mechanism for preserving the credibility of the media and protecting the public interest. Unethical reporting can produce a number of negative consequences, such as spreading panic, discrimination, endangering human rights and undermining democracy. Problems such as fake news ("fake news"), manipulation of photo and video content, covert marketing, as well as political bias in reporting are increasingly present in the media space. These phenomena lead to increasing distrust of the public in the media, which poses a serious challenge to the health of a democratic society. Precisely because of this, media ethics should not be only a theoretical concept or a formal obligation, but an essential part of media practice. The aim of this paper is to investigate the relationship between media and ethics, pointing out the importance of respecting ethical principles in journalism and media production. The work tries to offer an insight into how the media influence the formation of public opinion and how important ethical principles are in that process. Special attention is devoted to the analysis of specific examples of media behavior - both positive and negative, with the aim of better understanding of the role that ethics plays in media practice. In the era of global communication, when one sentence can travel around the world in a few seconds, the media's responsibility is greater than ever, and ethics is the foundation on which that responsibility must rest

Development, validation, and verification of the gas chromatography-mas spectrometry method for detecting and quantifying major cannabinoids in the inflorescence of Cannabis sativa L

    No full text
Cannabis sativa L. is one the most intriguing plants these days. This is mainly because of the cannabinoids that are synthesized during maturation. Two main cannabinoids are cannabidiol (CBD) and Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), followed by cannabigerol (CBG) and cannabinol (CBN). The CBD, THC, and CBN ratio determines whether it is the drug-type or fiber-type of the plant. We must have a precise and accurate sample preparation and analysis method to determine which it is. Several techniques are used for the analysis of cannabinoids. Among them is gas chromatography coupled with a flame ionization detector and/or mass spectrometer. To avoid the problem with elevated temperatures (decarboxylation, oxidation, and isomerization), decarboxylation was performed prior to the analysis, and tribenzylamine (TBA) was used as an internal standard. The first step was creating the calibration curves for CBD, THC, CBG, and CBN. After that, three hemp varieties (Helena, Marina, and Fedora 17) were used to validate and verify the method. High precision with intra-day and inter-day precisions (low coefficients of variation, CV) and accuracy for both standards and spiked samples proved the method's successful development, validation, and verification. The absence of CBN and Δ8-THC in plant samples showed that decarboxylation could be successfully applied, avoiding oxidation or isomerization of THC. Application of TBA showed that there is no need for deuterated standards. Quantitative analysis showed that analyzed strains are fiber-type plants and that the method developed in this study may be used to analyze cannabinoid content in plant samples accurately

Investigating the Links between Physical Activity, Emotion Regulation, and Mental Health: Comparison in Active, Recreational, and Non-athletes

    No full text
This research aimed to investigate the relationship between physical activity and mental health, focusing on the potential mediating role of emotional regulation. We investigated whether physical activity predicts the degree of distress and whether this potentially significant relationship can be mediated by two strategies of emotion regulation - cognitive reappraisal and emotional suppression. Then, we tested the mentioned mediation model within three subsamples − active athletes, recreational athletes, and non-athletes. A mediation analysis conducted on the entire sample revealed the existence of partial mediation. In addition to the significant total effect, physical activity had a significant direct effect on distress and a significant indirect effect through both tested emotion regulation strategies. More physical activity predicts more use of cognitive reappraisal, which then predicts lower distress. Also, more physical activity predicts more use of emotional suppression, which predicts higher distress. Such results suggest that engaging in physical activity can lead to a decrease and an increase in distress, depending on which emotion regulation strategy a person relies on. Mediation analyses conducted on subsamples provided arguable confirmation of the mediation model only in the case of recreational athletes. The results obtained within the subsamples are discussed in detail

Pharmaceutical marketing values and research of user satisfaction in medical pharmacy institutions

    No full text
The primary objective of this research was to examine the factors that contribute to the decision to buy medicines that can be bought in a pharmacy without a prescription and that are not on special lists of medicines that require special approval. The research collected socio-demographic, medical, professional, and institutional data. The collected data were processed using the software IBM SPSS (Statistical Package of Social Science) version 25. In the paper, descriptive statistics were applied to describe the sample, correlation analysis to examine the association, t-test of independent samples, and one-factor analysis of variance (ANOVA) to examine differences between groups. Pharmaceutical marketing is not a new phenomenon, but with the constant advancement of technology, this field of marketing offers a large field for applied research. Pharmacy as an activity is particularly sensitive, and when studying it and pharmaceutical marketing, it is necessary to include both societal marketing and socially responsible marketing. Pharmacy visits are typically not routine, occurring during times of illness, emergencies, or when seeking health advice. Such infrequent visits can make consumers more sensitive to the service they receive as they are stepping into an unfamiliar environment, often filled with anxiety or urgency. Opposite, the social dimension of a pharmacist’s role cannot be overstated. Pharmacists are not just dispensers of medication; they are vital healthcare providers who often engage in patient counseling and health education. They must balance the need for profitability with the imperative to serve public health interests. This includes offering affordable medications, providing free consultations, and participating in community health initiatives. The pharmacy profession needs to be continuously supported by laws with an impact at both professional and organizational levels. The results of this research will be useful to pharmaceutical institutions in developing programs that affect the quality of life
