Centralno mesto u ovom sistemu zauzimaju obaveštajne i bezbednosne službe.
Evaluation of potential human health risks from exposure to volatile organic compounds in contaminated urban groundwater in the Sava river aquifer, Belgrade, Serbia
The oil pollutant in the Sava River aquifer in the residential area of Belgrade, Serbia was investigated in order to analyze the extent, origin and spatial distribution of the pollution, with the aim to estimate potential human health risks from exposure to the compounds detected. Analytical methods indicated that the dominant compounds in this oil pollutant were gasoline range organic compounds. Benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes (BTEX) were identified as compounds of concern and quantified by headspace gas chromatography. The concentrations of benzene measured at all sampling points were higher than the remediation value while the maximum concentrations of BTEX quantified were among the highest concentrations of these compounds reported in the petroleum-contaminated aquifers in the world. The assessment of the human health risks from exposure to BTEX-covered industrial scenario for adult receptors and residential scenario for adult receptors and children. The exposure routes analyzed were dermal contact with and ingestion of contaminated water, considering both cancer and non-cancer effects. The analysis of the lifetime incremental cancer risk indicated the potential for adverse health effects for human exposure at the investigated location, and because of that it was interpreted as an unacceptable risk level or risks of high priority which required immediate consideration for remedial measures at this location. A complete set of mitigation measures was proposed including: groundwater decontamination treatment, installation of filters for tap water, development of the system for monitoring of BTEX in the groundwater and development of the emergency response capacities at this location
Active teaching methods in ESL classes
Ključni elementi uključuju studentsku in terakciju, studenstku inicijativu, istraživački razgovor, metode ponavljanja i evaluacije itd. This article represents a methodological overview of how active teaching and learning meth ods by Ivić et al. (2001) can be applied in the ESL classes with the psychology students at the university level. Each element of the active teaching methodology will be placed in the context of the English Language class with the students of Psychology. These key elements include student interaction, student initiative, explorative talk, methods of revision and evaluation etc. The aim of the paper is to discuss possibilities of incorporation of various ESL class activities and resources that correspond to the active learning model which as a result can contribute to a higher level of learning and engagement of the students. Additionally, the emphasis will be on the main language skills which include reading, listening, writing and speaking that are developed in the setting of active teaching methodology
Aspects of the Impact of Technological Progress on the Employment Process: Global Trends
It is impossible to imagine organizations without human resources. Therefore, human resources
are the main factor for every organization to achieve its goals and to implement strategy effectively
and efficiently. The misuse of organizational resources, and in particular human resources, is a business
dilemma. This chapter comes to the conclusion that interpersonal and negotiation skills are needed
to solve ethical dilemmas, which also requires the application of the following employability skills:
honesty, the ability to cooperate, respect for others, pride in one’s own work, a willingness to learn,
reliability, responsibility for one’s actions, honesty, and loyalty. It starts with a brief literature review
on what business ethics, ethical issues, and misuse of organizations resources are. A case study was done with a real ethical dilemma, which was discussed in terms of consequential theories
Changing the (Hi)story: From Postcolonial to Black British Literature
Revisionist with respect to imperialism, subversive with respect to contemporary society, exploratory with respect to the English language, black British literature has served as an umbrella term in the post-WWII setup for the literary expressions of ethnically non-white British authors of colonial descent. With cultural roots in the Caribbean, Africa and South Asia, these writers have given voice to Britain’s new ethnicities, writing their private histories into Britain’s national mythology, and inscribing themselves in the national body, especially through the medium of prose fiction. This paper charts the continuum of black British writing in conditions of British postcoloniality, yet arguing in favour of its separate treatment from the international category of postcolonial literature, on the grounds of it being an endemic
species of writing in Britain marked by an enduring aesthetics of resistance and the localness of its subject matter
Neglected problem: Influence of school bag on lumbar segment in children
Background and Objectives: School bag (SB) load causes significant changes
in the height and symmetry of the intervertebral discs at each level of
the spine from T12-L1 to L5-S1. This study aims to determine the change in
the size of the lumbar segment angle at a particularly critical point L3-L4
of the spine in relation to the load of the average weight of SB in healthy
male children (students) at standing and after 2-minute gait.
Methods: 47 boys, aged 12.2 ± 0.92 years, underwent photogrammetric
measurements in the sagittal plane in statics and dynamics, walking on a
laboratory treadmill. Measurements were repeated with the weight of SB
with a constant load of 6,251 kg, which represents 13.78% of the average
body weight of our sample. The lumbar angle (LA) connecting the point of
the big toe, the lumbar point L3-L4 and the processus spinosus C7 was
measured. In gait, LA was measured in the phases of the middle support and
the initial contact of the heel.
Results: T-test of paired samples was used to estimate the change in LA at
standing from 4.953° and walking phases from 6.295° to 7.332° in relation to
the unloaded state, and the value of the effect size (ES) indicates that the
impact of SB load is significant.
Conclusions: Cumulatively, microtraumas caused by SB load significantly affect
the increase in intervertebral pressure at the L3-L4 point, which is susceptible
to degenerative processes and which can be the cause of lumbar syndrome
(LS). Preventive measures are needed in order to lighten SB in this
population and introduce up to 10% of students’ body weight into the safe
zone
Of Friends and Foes : Recovering the Community in Zadie Smith's NW and Swing Time
For the past two decades, Zadie Smith has been acutely interested in both her fiction and non-fiction in the erosion of social solidarity, especially in the contemporary British context. In one form of this interest, her writing has engaged with neoliberal conceptions of individualism, social mobility and meritocracy that clash with the limitations of race and class, and as a result, untie the bonds of intimate friendships and local communities. Thatcherism has introduced a new structure of feeling in the 1980s, to borrow Raymond William's term, which placed emphasis on individual responsibility, self-help and competitiveness within a meritocratic framework, in contrast to the ethos of community-building that marked the earlier post-war settlement (Hall 1990). Theorizing this reinvented Britain of Foucauldian entrepreneurs of the self, a society that routinely remakes workers into entrepreneurs, citizens into consumers, and subjects into projects (Han 2017), thinkers have noted that the idea of meritocracy has lamentably been co-opted as a divisive social imaginary that reinforces class privilege (Littler 2017). It has also been established over the years and across disciplines that valorization of hyper-individual forms of agency diminishes the spaces of social solidarity, leaving many in disempowered and precarious positions (Fisher 2009; Gilroy 2013; Gilbert 2014). Smith's novels NW (2012) and Swing Time (2016) have been particularly invested in recovering race and class as meaningful concepts that continue to frame not only the agency of subjects in neoliberalism, but also their personal ethics. Both texts have ethically ambiguous characters that become socially abject (Tyler 2013) and stigmatized as wasted humans (Bauman 2007) because they fail to construct culturally valuable life-narratives within the world of the text, thus problematizing the relationship between individual responsibility and external forces of oppression. These unruly and unreadable anti-subjects such as Nathan in NW and Tracy in Swing Time embody the demonized underclass, which resists interpretation because of its imperviousness to the neoliberal common reason. Moreover, both novels foreground childhood friendships that dissolve later into adulthood, as the boundaries between victims and villains, as well as between friends and foes, become intensely blurred. This paper argues that Smith's novels weave friendships across social divides and across decades, within minutely localized time-spaces of north-west London neighbourhoods, in order to analogize the wider experience of the breakdown of communities along race and class lines. Against the trend for individualism, however, Smith ultimately argues that these precarious friendships of differently precarious subjects are the only hope for endangered communities, i.e. for recovering agency against the disempowering forces of fragmentation. The cerebral, yet fractured narrative fabric of NW could be read as a capitulation before these forces in this novel. However, this paper also seeks to show that embracing experientiality (Fludernik 1996) and narratorial responsibility in the form of realist first-person story-telling, coupled with Swing Time's more hopeful conclusion, is conducive to a narrative of collective experience and common values in the latter text, i.e. to a narrative construction of a community.
Fungicides in the Water of the Kraljevac Lake - Special Nature Reserve
Water samples were taken from the lake Kraljevac, which belongs to the Special Nature Reserve "Kraljevac". It is located near village Deliblato. The lake was formed after the embankment that was built. The lake is filled from the surrounding watercourses. As the raising of the water level in the lake caused flooding of the surrounding agricultural areas, pesticide residues can be found in the water of the lake. During July 2021, a three water samples were taken from three locations on the lake. The presence of pesticides was tested by solid-phase disk extraction (C-18), and the
obtained extracts were tested on a Thermo HPLC-MS-MS system. A total of 273 of pesticides were tested. A total of 42 pesticides were found in all three water samples, two which were from the group of acaricides, 1 bactericide, 15 fungicides, 14 herbicides and 10 insecticides. Of these detected pesticides, 24 are approved for use and the 18 active substances are not approved for use due to various negative effects on environment. The following fungicides were detected:
propamocarb, metconazole, flutolanil, difenoconazole, fenhexamide, azoxystrobin, tebuconazole,
metalaxyl, amethoctradin, flusilazole, propiconazole, bitertanol, dichlofluoanide, etaconazole and fenarimole. Found fungicide concentrations range from 0.0116 pg/L to 0.232494pg 2.718ug/L. The average found concentrations for fungicides are 0.369021pg / L, median / measurements for all
L found. The average fungicides standard is deviation of three repeated 0.161331pg / L, while the average coefficient of variation for three repeated measurements for all found fungicides is 46%. The highest concentration was found for fenarimol and that was 2.72 pg / L (s.d. 0.93). Phenarimol is the active substance in the Rubigan formulation, which was used in apple orchards to control the cause of powdery mildew and was recently banned
Potential of Helicrysum italicum cultivated in urban environment: SCCO2 extract cytotoxicity & NF-kB activation in HeLa, MCF-7 and MRC-5 cells
Urban horticulture and vertical gardens provide many benefits for the population in urban areas. A rational selection of plants in these features can introduce a potential for value-added products including extracts of nutraceuticals. Helichrysum. italicum was grown in the urban environment, on a vertical surface in the form of a green wall. Since the location was in a town with continental climate, particular attention was given to ensure that the minimum humidity of the soil and maximal insolation were achieved. Supercritical CO2 (SCCO2) was used for extraction of phytochemicals. Arzanol content of the obtained extracts was determined by HPLC-DAD using pure arzanol as standard. Cytotoxicity (MTT test) and NF-kB activation (p65 ELISA) were evaluated upon treatment of cells in culture (MCF-7, HeLa, MRC-5) with the SCCO2 extracts. This study demonstrates that H. italicum cultivation in urban conditions in the continental climate yields phytochemical-rich extracts. Obtained plant extracts showed potential anticancer effects when investigated in cell-based assays. Extract concentrations below IC50 concentrations for cytotoxic effects had a significant effect on NF-kB activation that was cell-line specific. HeLa and MCF-7 cells responded differently - suggesting the importance of cell receptors for biological activity. Further analysis of the potential use of extracts should be conducted using animal models. The reported use of Helicrysum italicum in the green healing wall is in line with the UN Development Goals for sustainable cities to improve the urban environment with benefits for the population wellbeing and a potential to obtain value-added bioactive extracts
