    Human Milk - the Biofluid that Nourishes Infants from the First Day of Life

    Human milk is a biofluid with a unique composition among mammalian milks. Besides this milk’s major components, its bioactive compounds, like hormones, immune factors, and oligosaccharides, are unique and important for infant growth and development. The best form of nutrition for term and preterm infants is the mother’s own milk. However, in the absence of the mother’s own milk, donor milk should be made available. Milk banks support neonatal intensive care units by providing preterm infants with human milk that generally has reasonable nutritive value for this sensitive population. However, neither mother’s own milk nor donor milk has sufficient energy content for the growth of preterm babies, so adequate human milk supplementation is crucial for their progress. Due to the different characteristics of human breast milk, as well as ubiquitous environmental pollutants, such as microplastics, new methods are required for monitoring the quality and characteristics of human milk, which will lay a solid foundation for the further development and progress of human milk research

    Application of game theory in resolving conflict situations

    The modern world is characterized by a multitude of problems that contain conflicts of different interests. The importance and frequency of the problem caused the need to develop techniques for managing conflict situations. Accordingly, game theory has developed as a special direction and methodology used in the study, analysis and resolution of conflict situations. This theoretical direction deals with the phenomenon of making rational decisions in conflict situations and is considered a specific type of mathematical analysis of conflicts. It is a mathematical discipline that deals with the formalization of the decision-making process in situations where multiple decisionmaking subjects participate, who have conflicting interests. Each of the opposing sides has several strategies at their disposal. The goal is to determine the strategy that is best for each side in a conflict situation

    Skoro sve aktuelne agende za održivi razvoj ističu rastući značaj gradova, posmatrajući ih kao subjekte na koje u velikoj meri utiče rast ekonomije i stanovništva, novi obrazaci potrošnje i brojni ekološki izazovi. Zbog brojnih izazova modernog života, koji su posebno koncentrisani u urbnanim sredinama, insistira se na radikalnoj promeni modela urbanog razvoja. To je pitanje koje sve više dobija na važnosti kod kreatora politike, privrednih subjekata i u naučno-stručnim krugovima, kako u svetu, tako i u Srbiji. U tom kontekstu, kao izuzetno kompleksni sistemi i čvorišta razvovrsnih aktivnosti, gradovi koji se razvijaju kao “pametni” dobijaju ključno mesto u ostvarivanju ciljeva ekonomskog i održivog razvoja. Nesumljivo, pametni gradovi imaju vrlo značajnu ulogu u tim procesima i u poziciji su da doprinesu i olakšaju prelazak na zeleniju ekonomiju. Ovo nije samo zato što su gradovi danas mesto za život većini svetske populacije i ekonomske aktivnosti, već i zato što su gradovi centri znanja i inovacija koji su ključni za razvoj digitalne i zelene tranzicije. Kroz “pametni” razvoj gradova moguće izgraditi sinergiju i međuzavisnost između socio-ekonomske i ekološke održivosti i uspešnije sprovesti i promovisati zelenu tranziciju. Cilj ovog rada je da analizira poziciju i važnost razvoja pametnih gradova u Srbiji kao modela održivog urbanog razvoja. Rad je podeljen u tri celine. Prvi deo se bavi ulogom pametnih gradova za zelenu i digitalnu tranziciju, dok se drugi i treći deo fokusiraju na analizu stanja u Srbiji, mogućnostima i perspektivom razvoja. Rezultati istraživanja doprinose razumevanju i popularizaciji ove teme sa više značajnih aspekata.Almost all current agendas for sustainable development highlight the growing importance of cities, viewing them as subjects that are greatly affected by economic and population growth, new consumption patterns and numerous environmental challenges. Due to the numerous challenges of modern life, which are especially concentrated in urban areas, there is an insistence on a radical change of the model of urban development. It is a question that is gaining more and more importance among policy makers, business entities and in scientific and professional circles, both in the world and in Serbia. In this context, as extremely complex systems and hubs of various activities, cities that develop as “smart” get a key place in achieving the goals of economic and sustainable development. Undoubtedly, smart cities have a very important role in these processes and are in a position to contribute and facilitate the transition to a greener economy. This is not only because cities today are the place where the majority of the world’s population and economic activity live, but also because cities are centers of knowledge and innovation that are key to the development of the digital and green transition. Through the “smart” development of cities, it is possible to build synergy and interdependence between socio-economic and ecological sustainability and more successfully implement and promote the green transition. The aim of this paper is to analyze the position and importance of the development of smart cities in Serbia as a model of sustainable urban development. The work is divided into three parts. The first part deals with the role of smart cities for the green and digital transition, while the second and third parts focus on the analysis of the situation in Serbia, the possibilities and perspective of development.     Energy efficiency as a driver of the circular economy and carbon neutrality in selected countries of Southern Europe : a soft computing approach

    The main goal of the paper is to define the level of energy efficiency in the economies of selected countries in the Balkan region that have opted for the EU Green Deal, a circular economy, and a transition to carbon neutrality. Energy efficiency, as a determinant of carbon neutrality, was selected as an indicator for analysis because it records particularly unfavorable indicators in the region under observation. The research was carried out on a sample of seven Balkan countries and their surrounding areas. An initial qualitative analysis was followed by a quantitative analysis based on a combination of statistical methods and soft computing. Six indicators were selected for the analysis covering a period of 30 years (1990–2020). A significant obstacle to the green transition and the region’s transition to a circular economy and carbon neutrality is energy efficiency and energy related pollution—the reliance of most countries on coal-fired thermal power plants for electricity generation. The research results showed the following: (a) the degree of economic development and membership in the European Union are not significantly related to the level of energy efficiency; (b) most of the sampled countries are in the initial stages of introducing activities to achieve carbon neutrality; and (c) only Slovenia has documented consistent indicators and evident advancements in its efforts to achieve carbon neutrality. Based on the research findings, proposals for improvements were made in the direction of policymaking and in a methodological sense. The implementation of circularity and carbon neutrality as a long-term goal of the European Union is not necessarily related to the level of economic development, nor can its trajectory be exclusively ascertained by means of data processing and monitoring. A more precise understanding of a carbon-neutral future can be achieved through the incorporation of qualitative data to a greater extent, a realistic evaluation of historical facts and their repercussions, as well as projections of the effects that reality and global developments after 2022 will have on each country

    How Consumer Choices Drive Suistanability Effords

    Achieving the goals of the 2030 Agenda is one of the main tasks that humanity has established. Increasing the area under sustainable farming systems is one of the solutions. Organic farming is recognized as a sustainable agricultural practice, and as such represents an essential driving force in sustainable food production. PURPOSE: The main objective of this research was to estimate consumers' awareness of their influence on sustainability, and whether they are aware of how far-reaching their impact is. METHODES: For data collecting, the technique of surveying was applied. The primary instrument was a questionnaire with mostly closed, multiple-choice questions. The survey was conducted on 200 consumers of sustainable and non-sustainable products, with a focus on sustainable and non-sustainable agriculture products. RESULTS: Following the results, a high percentage of respondents associate the terms organic agriculture with sustainable practices and know how to recognize organic products. Almost 70% of participants are aware of the importance of organic agriculture in environment protection, in maintaining and increasing soil fertility, and it is ready to increase the consumption of organic products. CONCLUSIONS: The results of this research showed that consumer awareness of the importance of sustainable farming systems in food production is high, and they are willing to increase the consumption of organic products, but it must be in accordance with their standard of living

    The Influence of Dynamic Representations in Mobile Applications on Students’ Learning Achievements in Solving Multiple Integrals

    In this paper, we describe the influence of the implementation of methodology for teaching and learning multiple integrals based on the constructivist approach and the interconnectedness of multiple representations (with an emphasis on dynamic representations) for different mathematical objects using GeoGebra’s applications Graphing Calculator and 3D Calculator. The empirical research was conducted at the University of Kragujevac, Serbia, with two groups (the experimental and the control groups) of second-year students. During the learning process of the experimental group, students created digital materials to visualize the domain of the integration for the concrete tasks, to set the integration bounds, to recognize in which situation they needed to introduce the switch of variables, and all that to solve double or triple integral problems. Students in the control group, on the other hand, didn't use technology of any kind, including the programs Graphing Calculator and 3D Calculator. The findings of the empirical study showed that students' use of these tools to create digital materials improved their academic achievement and their practical and theoretical knowledge of multiple integrals

Поред теоријског оквира, рад се бави и компаративном анализом уметничког израза у традиционалном и дигиталном медију, што омогућава дубље разумевање процеса кроз које уметност пролази у сусрету са новим технологијама. Овај рад истражује комплексан однос између уметности речи и дигиталног доба, са посебним фокусом на промене које се дешавају под утицајем мас-медија и све веће потребе за медијском писменошћу. На крају, посебна пажња посвећена је предвиђању будућих трендова и изазова са којима ће се уметност речи суочити у наредним деценијама

    Determination of pesticide residues in agricultural soil next to irrigation canals

    Pesticides used in plant protection represent a large group of various com pounds with more than 250 compounds currently registered in our coun try. These compounds often find their way into the soil, along with their de gradation products such as 4,4’-DDT, 4,4’-DDE, 4,4’-DDD, glyphosate, AMPA, atrazine, desethylatrazine, desisopropylatrazine, and various hydroxy de rivatives of atrazine. The aim of this study was to investigate pesticide re sidues in agricultural soil adjacent to irrigation canals in the Vojvodina Pro vince. A total of 900 soil samples were collected from 45 locations at two different depths: 0-30 cm and 30-60 cm. Quantification of herbicides was performed using HPLC/MS/MS and GC/MS/MS techniques. In total, 61 pe sticide residues and their metabolites were detected. The results were com pared with the maximum allowed and remediation values as outlined by the Regulation on the Program of systematic monitoring of soil quality, indica tors for assessing the risk of soil degradation, and the methodology for the development of remediation programs (Official Gazette of the Republic of Serbia, No. 88/2010 and No. 30/2018), as well as the Regulation on limit va lues of pollutants, Harmful, and dangerous substances in soil (“Official Ga zette of the Republic of Serbia”, No. 30/2018 and No. 64/2019). Results of the study implicate that the average concentrations of pesticides in all 900 soil samples ranged from 0.103 to 296.92 µg/kg a.d.w. (absolute dry weight). The overall average concentration of pesticides was 14.66 µg/kg a.d.w. Specifi cally, in the 0-30 cm soil layer, the average concentration was 18.58 µg/kg, while in the 30-60 cm layer, it was lower, at 9.47 µg/kg. Certain pesticides, including flufenacet, rimsulfuron, quizalofop-p-ethyl, fluazifop-p-butyl, iodosulfuron-methyl, thifensulfuron-methyl, and tritosulfuron, were not detected in any soil samples.     Green Technologies for Handling Microplastics – European Project GREENLand "Green Country"

    The Sustainable Development Goals and the Green Deal presuppose a comprehensive cross-sectoral solution to environmental problems. Addressing global challenges requires innovative approaches and investment in interinstitutional developments at the global level. The scientific team of EDUCONS University, Serbia in co-operation with scientific teams of intensive EU research institutes with extensive experience in this field - the Alfred Wegener Institute in Germany and the University of Galway in Ireland - has developed a development strategy that will put Serbia at the forefront of research and development in Europe through the HORIZON-CSA TWINNING MICROPLASTIC FREE ENVIRONMENT project 101079267, GREENLand. The project will run for 36 months and is backed by extensive European funding. Despite the serious efforts made at European level to synthesise studies and results, in order to best manage global processes, it is necessary to distinguish the specificities of different countries and regions of Europe in approaches to prevention, detection and clean-up technologies for microplastic pollution. This project aims to change the system and make a major contribution to a plastic-free planet by developing prevention measures, innovations and a remediation plan. By engaging the academic, scientific and broader social communities to increase knowledge and use of technologies to prevent, detect and clean up microplastics, the realisation of the project's aims and objectives contributes to food safety and environmental safety. However, this is not the only benefit: the project activities will support and develop researchers in the region united by the desire to protect the environment. The GREENLand project will benefit the citizens of the EU and beyond, as the basic aim of the project is to create friendly technologies to achieve a clean environment and microplastic-free food for the future. The project is structured around five work packages, each of which will produce intermediate results that will be incorporated into a system of indicators of successful project implementation. The objectives of the first package are:1) development of a microplastic resistance index with protocol and analysis that will serve as a relevant indicator of understanding of this complex environmental problem, its sources, fate and transfer in the selected pilot areas; harmonisation of Serbian legislation with European Union (EU) legislation to ensure the PDP (personal development plan) strategy for a microplastic-free environment; development of a database and maps of pilot areas (hotspots ) The objectives of the second package are: 1) development of a cloud-based e-learning system; 2) development of a document management system; 3) development of an interuniversity repository. The objectives of the third package are: 1) development of a human resource management strategy ; 2) personnel exchange and training; 3) establishment of a project incubation and technology transfer centre. The objectives of the fourth package include: 1) dissemination and utilisation of project results; 2) development of a communication and information dissemination strategy for the project; 3) exchange of know-how, technologies and skills. Objectives of the fifth package:1) implementation of project management within the consortium; 2) monitoring and evaluation of progress and timely completion of all project phases and results; 3) coordination of preparation and submission of all periodic and final reports to the European Commission (EC). The scientific research, which is carried out both on the basis of EDUCONS University, which has a unique laboratory complex and highly qualified staff, and with the help of the results provided by the European universities - partners of the Project Consortium, has a serious methodology, which includes scientific methods of system analysis, data collection, processing and interpretation, a set of laboratory studies, validation of working models and implementation of practical results.
