Possible Influence of Hosius of Cordoba on Decisions Made at the First Ecumenical Council (325): Analogy of Canons from the Councils of Elvira, Arles and Nicaea
This study deals with canons from the councils of Elvira and Arles in the context of the canons of the First Ecumenical Council (325), in order to identify a common denominator that could unify the theological-canonical tradition from these three councils. An analogy of the canons ratified at the Councils of Elvira, Arles and Nicaea, offers Hosius of Cordoba as a possible common denominator. Bishop Hosius of Cordoba was an advisor to Emperor Constantine the Great and probably one of the authors of Emperor Constantine the Great's ecclesiastical policy. Thus, his activity may also be seen as the unification of traditions from Spain, the Western Roman Empire -through Arles and Rome, all the way to the East - Nicaea and other Eastern dioceses whose representatives attended the First Ecumenical Council in Nicaea
Abortion Culture in Serbia Bioethical, Religious and National Aspects
Serbia is a country with the large number of abortions, which is why some researchers consider that it is possible to speak about abortion culture. Various liberal groups constantly emphasize the “woman’s right” to abortion, while ignoring the fact that many women are forced to have an abortion. Therefore it would be good to start talking about right to motherhood. This right should be significantly financially supported, because stopping negative population growth is the most important national and social interest. The right to life of the unborn child must also be taken into consideration. Since the criminalization of abortion would led to many negative consequences, the author suggests that the decision to grant legal abortion should be made by the ethics committee formed by experts, which would conduct consultations with a pregnant woman, examine the reasons and allow the abortions that are justified, primarily in order to protect the life of a woman
The Function of Cathedral Rite Elements in the Contemporary Form of Worship of the Orthodox Church: Liturgiological Analysis
The contemporary form of Orthodox worship is the result of a complex historical process, with synthesized elements of both Constantinopolitan (euchologion, lectionary, and menaion) and Hagiopolite (Book of the Hours, Psalter, and anthologies of hymns) liturgical traditions. The two most important turning points in this historical process were the Studite and Neo-Savvaite syntheses of the 8th and 14th centuries, respectively. However, elements of the Constantinopolitan tradition, which by the 8th century had merged with the Hagiopolite tradition under the framework of the Studite synthesis, survived in their final form in the Typikon of St. Savvas the Sanctified, whose general acceptance across the Orthodox commonwealth only came after the appearance of the first printed publications of the 16th century. Our study contributes to the research of the abovementioned synthesis by uncovering elements of the cathedral rite in the contemporary liturgical form, as practiced within the Orthodox Church. Hence, the central part of this study is dedicated to the reconstruction and structural comparison of various canonical offices (akolouthiae) of the cathedral, Studite, and Neo-Savvite traditions. By comparing the offices of matins, vespers, liturgy, and hours within these three traditions, we can trace the evolutionary development of particular elements of these offices from the cathedral rite into their contemporary form. Finally, the conclusion of our research delivers a liturgiological analysis of the aforementioned elements. In particular, we will underscore the importance of preserving the said elements within the contemporary practice. And in accordance with their ancient origin evidenced in the sources (Apostolic Constitutions, Egeria, St. John Chrysostom, etc.), we will demonstrate how elements of the cathedral rite function as central and indispensable elements of contemporary liturgical practice, and how they survived as the most vital components within the structure of these offices amid the turbulent development of the daily cycle of the Byzantine liturgical for
Ilarion Zeremski and Irinej Ciric at the Moscow Ecclesiastical Academy: A contribution to the History of Formation of Serbian Theological Elite in Russia
According to documents from Moscow archives, the religious and scientific context, historical course and theological significance of the studying of two important Serbian bishops and theologians, Ilarion Zeremski and Irinej Ćirić, at the Moscow Ecclesiastical Academy in the late 19th and early 20th centuries have been researched. The process of their theological education in Sergiev Posad, so far unknown to Serbian science, was of a decisive importance for their theological and scientific work latter. In this paper, through the educational and scientific activities of their professors, are presented the currents of Russian academic theological thought at the time of their schooling. Their schooling is followed from the admission to the Academy to the acquisition of candidate of theology degree, with an emphasis on the importance of the final results in the form of their candidate dissertations. It is pointed out that Zeremski and Ćirić represent the best testimony to the justifiability of theological and academic cooperation between Serbia and Russia in this period. Possitive outcomes, in their case, were the most visible in the field of Serbian biblical studies, church history and liturgical studies
The Importance of Fasting and Its Observance for Tomorrow
The article theologically examines the document on fasting adopted at the Crete Council in 2016. With respect to fasting, as an obligatory practice, we could notice negative consequences in Church life, more than positive ones. For example, Eucharist has been understood as a cult with less relation to the world. It became only a ritual on the periphery of the Church’s life. The emphasis on food as the most important value has a negative outcome for the relationship between our theology and our clergy. In most cases, obligatory fasting practice strips our Christian identity to an identity based merely around food. For all these reasons, the article advises that the Church should advocate fasting but no longer as an obligatory practice
Towards a Different Mode of Life
The modern mode of life has brought many problems to mankind. It threatens to endanger existence, both man and nature. But, is this, modern mode of existence of man and the entire creation the only option for us? Is this living in accordance with the logic of the modern civilization the only option? Is there an alternative? Who should offer the alternative? In this study, the author develops a thesis that the Church is the reality which should offer the alternative, and the new way of life today

Revolt Against the Modern World: Theology and the Political in the Thought of Justin Popovic
This paper offers a critical overview of the relation between theology and the political in the opus of Justin Popović, a major Christian churchman, intellectual and saint of the Serbian Orthodox Church. The author endeavours to demonstrate that, in order to procure a sound and balanced evaluation, it is necessary to view his critique of the political from the perspective of fundamental presuppositions of his theology proper. Fr Justin’s theology does not equate the political with politics in the narrow sense. His approach to the political is neither a religionized (geo)politics nor a theology of politics. Rather, it is a pre-eminently Christological hermeneutic of the life-world of the political, set in a polemical style. In this sense, alongside other interests and concerns, his theology addresses the problems of Europe and Russia, ecumenism and Serbian socio-cultural history. It does so in terms of the predetermining value and criterion of Christ the God-man, set in thoughts which are effects of Popović’s lifelong biblical, spiritual and ascetical experience
