The wood and the trees: A look into the abstract and the concrete in William Faulkner's as I Lay Dying and graham Swift's Last Orders
.In 1997 British author Graham Swift was faced with accusations of plagiarism in the British press due to certain similarities in structure and subject matter between his novel Last Orders (1996) and William Faulkner's As I Lay Dying (1930). Using the method of comparative analysis, and disregarding issues of plagiarism as such (since they have been dealt with elsewhere) this paper will present that the two novels are two similar but different presentations of a universal topic2. The first part of the paper deals with the form and structure of the novels, the genuineness of the language, as well as the abstract and the general: depictions of death and life. The second part deals with the concrete and the individual: the gender of the deceased, the differences between the novels' protagonists, their socio-economic status, the cultural and geographic environment, the climate. The analysis shows that while the structure of the novels, the story line and the abstract presented in them are more or less similar (which may have caused some confusion as to whether wrongful borrowing or plagiarism were used by Swift), the two settings which are depicted are very different. After a comparative analysis of the similarities and the differences between the two novels, the conclusion is reached that the abstract in the two novels is the same and the concrete different and that consequently plagiarism accusations could be put forth regarding any story that draws on archetypal ideas
Narratological analysis of an artistic text: I. Andrić, 'The Story of Serf Siman'
U radu smo utvrdili vrste sastojaka pojedinih kompozicijskih oblika u Andrićevoj Priči o kmetu Simanu, i ulogu tih sastojaka - pripovednih, opisnih i dijaloških - u 'sklapanju' umetničkog teksta. The author uses the narratological standpoint to analyze 'The Story of Serf Siman' by Andrić, in doing which she ascertains the narrative, descriptive and dialogical compositional forms in the weaving of the story’s texture, and also the fact that Andrić’s narrative technique demonstrates an important feature - language economy. The author almost never uses emphatic language, but he achieves intensification in the opposite manner: by creating verbal lacunae, condensing the image or event, which immensely intensifies the reader’s expectations
Various articulations of the us-them relation in the so called 'generation novels' from the peripheries
Jelen dolgozat az ún. 'nemzedéki regény' egy különálló, sok szempontból sajátos, peremvidéki variánsának kétféle módozatáról értekezik. A két vizsgált regény Végel László ma már klasszikusnak számító Egy makró emlékiratai (1967), illetve Nagy Abonyi Árpád nemrég megjelent Budapest, retour (2008) c. művei. A két mű tematikai, motivikus és poétikai hasonlóságán túl a dolgozat a főbb eltérési pontok megragadásán keresztül kísérletet tesz a 'nemzedéki regény' transzformációjának 'szabályszerűségeinek' néhány elemét kimutatni, miközben valamivel tágabb világirodalmi kontextusba próbálja helyezni a műveket. The paper discusses two different modes of a separate - in many ways specific - periphery variant of what is called the 'generation novel'. The two novels which the author discusses are Egy makró emlékiratai (Memoirs of a Pimp) (1967) by László Végel - by now regarded as a classic novel of its kind - and the recently published novel Budapest, retour (2008) by Árpád Nagy Abonyi. The paper is an attempt at pointing out some elements of 'regularities' of transformation in the 'generation novel', while it also tries to find a place for these works in the wider context of world literature
On some characteristics of group adjectives in Serbian
This paper discusses behavior of group adjectives in contemporary Serbian. Group adjectives show characteristics of adjectives, but also some of nouns, especially in the domain of argument structure. The data shows that group adjectives in Serbian have characteristics different from group adjectives in other languages. However, their behavior does support the way that group adjectives are treated in the contemporary grammatical theory
Agile & lean curriculum design: adapting study programs to labor market needs
One of the main contemporary challenges of education is keeping up with a frequently shifting and unpredictable labor market, pressured to deliver highly skilled, global-oriented community leaders. Higher education is especially challenged considering the fact that universities are most often traditional, institutionalized systems with limited flexibility and national constraints. The very essence of the way study programs are designed and implemented must be changed if universities are to remain the most prominent credential bodies. In addressing these issues, we suggest an agile approach – applying a variation of work methodologies and strategies created in the world of software development and lean/just-in-time production industries focused on maintaining and promoting high rates of improvement.
The suggested framework builds its success on a set of values and principles such as welcoming changing requirements, quick and regular adaptation to changing circumstances, frequent/iterative delivery, self-organizing, cross-functional teams and motivated individuals. This student-oriented approach, based on the productive principles of learner autonomy, empiricism, collaboration, prioritization, time boxing, transparency and trust for every step within a given framework, empowers students to get involved in creating their own education process, to design their professional future, to set goals that matter to them personally and to fully invest themselves in team creativity and innovation. Through lean/agile methods and tools students learn to enjoy the process, to produce the change and to adapt to change more easily – both when their professional field develops, and when faced with a change of environment, i.e. in a global context. The suggested methodology is embedded in the curriculum as a type of hidden curriculum, and the very process, rather than the content, is innovative and adaptable. These tools can help create a new world of higher education which can respond to future challenges.
We present a model through a case study of designing a curriculum for language study programs which builds on extensive research of labor market needs, and enables almost real-time inclusion of shifts that occur in the real world in the curriculum. By identifying all relevant stakeholders and decision makers, and including them in the process of higher education, universities can regain and fortify their role and purpose in the 21st century digital, mass society. We use the example of languages, as an essential tool for efficient communication in today's and tomorrow's globalized, connected world.
Through a detailed theoretical account, modular paradigm, and case study, we explore the possible applications of agile methodologies in higher education in the context of and for the betterment of an ever-developing and ever-connecting world of global citizens
Funkcii pljuskvamperfekta v sovremennom serbskom i ukrainskom jazykah
Vydeljajutsja takže funkcii: oboznačenija prervannoj situacii v prošlom; retrospektivnoj aktualizacii; topikalizacii; digressivnaja funkcija, a v ukrainskom jazyke - i funkcija vyraženija kontrafaktičeskogo uslovija. Dannye funkcii rassmatrivajutsja v svjazi s uže opisannymi serbskimi lingvistami funkcijami annulirovannogo rezul'tata i evocirovanija obščego fona, a takže rezul'tatami tipologičeskih issledovanij pljuskvamperfekta poslednego vremeni

The cycles of revolution: how Wegener and Milinkovic changed the earth sciences
The year 1912 is annus mirabilis for Earth sciences. In two crucial papers Alfred Wegener and Milutin Milankovic independently set up revolutionary theories based on far-reaching visions of continental drift and climate orbital forcing. Their contributions simultaneously did for the Earth sciences what the theory of evolution did for biology and what the theory of relativity did for physics. They provided Earth sciences with a comprehensive perspective of Earth's dynamics in both astronomical and terrestrial terms, and revolutionized geology by abandoning the ideas of a climatologically self-sufficient Earth and unmovable continents - remnants of the old geocentric picture of the unmoving, centered Earth. In the secular sense they finally completed the heliocentric theory that was set up by Copernicus. This paper follows the strange synchronicity in their life and work cycles
