The connectivism as a learning theory from the prism of blended learning
Digital technologies have greatly altered the way we acquire, share and create new meaning and knowledge. This imposed the need to reflect upon and/or revise the existing theories of knowledge, which ultimately led towards the creation of new learning theories. One of these theories relies upon the connectivist teaching, indicating that the learning is in fact the process of producing connections and perceiving the ones that already exist between different fields and concepts. The connectivism, as a newly created theory emerged from this line of thinking, is considered the learning theory of the digital age, emphasizing, amongst other things, the important place that modern technologies occupy within the educational process. Furthermore, the connectivist teaching was conceived bearing in mind the significant role of social and cultural context in acquiring relevant and up-to date knowledge, while at the same time emphasizing the necessity of networking, which became essential in modern age in order to gain and share the knowledge. Moreover, the connectivism focuses on the fact that people nowadays learn from different sources available on the internet, e.g. through web search, forums, emails, various online communities, conversations, blogs, etc. Thus, learning at all levels of education must include these rather informal ways of acquiring knowledge as to avoid becoming obsolete. This paper will consider the connectivism as a learning theory from the prism of blended learning, as the one that combines the formal way of transferring knowledge and somewhat informal online type of learning, incorporating e-sources that enable the creation and functioning of communities of inquiry. We will indicate how the theory of connectivism can be applied to the blended type of learning on the examples of the courses offered within the Language, Literature, Culture MA and PhD study program available in blended learning format at the Faculty of Philology of the University of Belgrade. We will also strive at contributing to the existing dialogue of whether the connectivism actually represents the new learning theory or whether it is really just the successor, i.e. amended version of theories that previously already highlighted the role of social context in the learning process
Roerich Movement in Kingdom of Yugoslavia
The paper examines contacts of Nicholas and Helena Roerich with Serbian and
Yugoslavian millieus of interwar period, based on archival materials (letters and oficial
documents from Serbian archives) ans recently published materials of Roerichs (letters,
diaries). We give short overview of the history of Roerich society in Belgrade, contacts of
the artist with king Alexander I, with intellectuals and politicians in Belgrade, Zagreb and
New York, support to Roerich museum and Banner of Peace pact as provided by Yugoslav
academy. History of pictures sent by Roerich museum to Yugoslavia is described, too,
mostly on archival documents. Beside this public side, within Roerich society there was an
inner circle, consisting of Russian emigrees mostly, dedicated to esoteric teachings of the
Roerichs. This largely forgotten part of local cultural history shows at the same time some
interesting examples of the transformatons of Slavophilism, as present both in Roerichs’
movement and in culture and politics of Kingdom of Yugoslavia. It is also noticable that
culture of Russian emmigrants in Yugoslavia included a current with esoteric inclinations,
fact mostly neglected in the research
Meaning of the term phoneme and its significance for the teacher's vocation
U radu se polazi od tipičnih nedoumica i nejasnoća pri studentskom razumevanju pojma fonema, vezanih za njeno poistovećivanje sa glasom i zanemarivanje njene apstraktne prirode. Pri objašnjenju se polazi od sosirovskih pojmova jezika i govora, da bi se na tipičnim primerima iz savremenog srpskog jezika i njegove istorije objasnio značaj razumevanja fonoloških postavki za razumevanje suštine jezika kao semiotičkog sistema. This paper starts from typical perplexity and unclearness of students' comprehension of the term phoneme, connected to its connection with the sound and neglecting its abstract nature. When explaining this, we are starting from source terms of language and speech, and in typical terms of contemporary Serbian, there are examples shown, explaining history and significance of phonological assumptions for understanding the essence of language as a semiotic system
A Literary Philtrum or the Last Cultural Intimacy
The philtrum - the small groove above the upper lip of every human being - is, according to Hebrew myth, the mark of an angel's touch. The fullness and beauty of this myth does not prevent us from almost having forgotten it, while the difficulty of talking about something so human and common to all of mankind as the philtrum, within the framework of academia, provides clear evidence of the alienation of cultural discourse from its essence - the achievement of intimate, unmediated connection between cultures and nations. Likewise, despite the literary-theoretical oblivion of important ideas of literariness and the ontological cognitive power of literature, literary works, such as those of Mesa Selimovic, are still able to teach us about the beauty of (mutual) existence and the importance of cultural dialogue. In a sense, literature is a reservoir of humanity and a reminder of the importance of intimate human contact through cultural dialogue in the age of globalization and mechanization
Ali Emiri efendi: The founder of the Millet manuscript library
Ali Emiri (1857-1924), one of the last Ottoman intelectuals, has devoted his whole life and wealth to books and reading. He was working as a clerk and defterdar in various provinces of the Ottoman Empire for thirty one year. After his retirement (1908) he was engaged in commissions for selection and classification of historical manuscripts. Ali Emiri was also a poet. In the period between 1918. and 1923. he published magazines called Osmanli Tarih ve Edebiyat Mecmuasi and Tarih ve Edebiyat Mecmuasi. He found Kaşgarli Mahmud's masterpiece Divanü Lugati't-Türk in 1915. in Istanbul. He collected more than 16.000 manuscripts, printed books and documents that he donated to his nation and founded The Millet Manuscript Library in Istanbul. There is no doubt that Divanü Lugati't-Türk is the most precious one among the books collected by Ali Emiri. It was published in Istanbuld between 1915. and 1917. thanks to the efforts of Kilisli Muallim Rifat. It could be said that Ali Emiri lived to love and collect books. As he felt great respect for his nation and national culture, he calles his library Millet (National) Manuscript Library
The differend and the western culture: on the challenge of reconcilation in history
In search of India and about american dream
When one starts learning (from) history of India he is almost immediately upset by endless at first glance tangled clue of events and names that are impossible to arrange in some consequent rational order. So, it seems that the only key for the cultural history of India lies in personal experience. Such an experience is more or less arbitrary initiation but it is inevitable to get one among many possible consistent pictures of India. Free from colonial prejudices culture of India can be used as a bright mirror for understanding the world where we live in and its dreams
Causative and voice in Japanese language contrasted with Serbian
U srpskom jeziku, međutim, dati oblik derivacije je ograničen, dok u japanskom jeziku pomoćni glagol saseru u vidu morfeme -sase- poseduje visoki stepen produktivnosti. Kauzativ u japanskom jeziku izražava interpersonalne, intrapersonalne i ekstrapersonalne situacije. This paper discusses the types of causative sentences in Japanese. Causative in Japanese language is a part of the category of voice. It expresses the meaning that someone or something causes the action of another. In Japanese, the causative meaning is clearly established in the morphological structure: the distinction between causative and noncausative use of a verb is systematically made by affixes of the auxiliary verb, saseru. In Serbian, the similar relationship can be observed in some transitive – intransitive verb pairs. In Serbian, however, that form of derivation is limited, while morpheme -saseru in Japanese has a high degree of productivity. Causative in Japanese expresses interpersonal, intrapersonal and extrapersonal situations. The meaning of causative are diverse, but the meanings of coercion and permission are emphasized as general. Among the particular meanings of causatives, this paper emphasizes the causal meaning and the meaning of possession. The modal meanings and the problem of implication are pointed out as well. The aim of the paper is to determine the types of japanese causative sentence and to demonstrate in what manner Serbian expresses the meaning of those types in order to discover the systemic relations that establish the equivalence. The paper examines the possibility of expressing the meanings of coercion and permission by periphrastic construction with the causative verb as a formal means that expresses the mentioned meanings in Serbian. The paper also examines the possibility of expressing the meaning of possession, as one of the particular meanings of Japanese causative sentence, with the possessive dative or dative of benefit or damage in Serbian. The method we used in the paper is a contrastive analysis of causative sentences in Japanese and Serbian. The corpus consists of modern literary works in Japanese written from the early 20th century to the present day and of their translations into Serbian
