International migration; a comprehensive framework for a survey of the literature
No full textThis paper describes intemational migration in a changing political and economic environment. Recent trends in migration cannot be fully cxplained by convential economic labour demand and supply approaches, since migration flows have increased despite the limited job opportunities in the regions of destination. A different approach which explains the recent migration flows is developed within the systems approach. Using this approach, this paper introduces a conceptual framework which depicts migration motives and decisions and the factors which influence these decisions. An overview of macroeconomic foctors influencing the migration decision is given and policies, which to a large extent determine whether migration is possible or not, are described. Furthermore, the labour market consequences of migration are described. lt is found that the impact of immigrants on the host countries is usually positivc. However, these results are mainly found in the United States and therefore have no universal validity. In Europe, these findings may he somewhat different due to the different institutional settings. Furthemore, immigrant groups are not equally distributed throughout the country but are often conccntrated in city areas. Research should therefore he concentrated on the effects at the urban level
Metafizyka światła. Wstęp do panteistycznej ekofilozofii Henryka Skolimowskiego
No full textThe main thesis of this article is the assumption that Henryk Skolimowski’s metaphysics of light constitutes an original metaphysical concept and, moreover, that it could only have been written at the end of the twentieth century and only by a personality with a deeply interdisciplinary orientation. Skolimowski was undoubtedly erudite, not only in terms of the history of Western and Far Eastern philosophy, but also in the mathematical and natural sciences. He was a philosopher by training, and in his youth he also obtained a master’s degree in geodesy, which left its mark in such a way that he continued to deepen his knowledge in the mathematical and natural sciences for the rest of his life. Hence, his mindset was profoundly interdisciplinary. For a full understanding of Skolimowski’s metaphysical conception of light, it is crucial to break away from traditional metaphysical dualisms, especially those initiated by the Platonic tradition and continued by the Judeo-Christian tradition, whose apogee is the philosophy of Rene Descartes.Główną tezą artykułu jest założenie, że metafizyka światła Henryka Skolimowskiego stanowi oryginalną koncepcję metafizyczną, a także że mogła ona powstać tylko pod koniec XX w. i tylko spod pióra osobowości o nastawieniu głęboko interdyscyplinarnym. Skolimowski był niewątpliwym erudytą nie tylko w aspekcie historii filozofii zachodniej, jak i dalekowschodniej, ale też w naukach matematyczno-przyrodniczych. Z wykształcenia był filozofem, a w młodości uzyskał również magisterium z geodezji, co odcisnęło się piętnem w ten sposób, że pogłębiał swoją wiedzę w naukach matematyczno-przyrodniczych do końca swojego życia. Stąd jego umysłowość miała głęboko interdyscyplinarny charakter. Dla pełnego zrozumienia metafizycznej koncepcji światła Skolimowskiego kluczowe jest oderwanie się od tradycyjnych dualizmów metafizycznych, zwłaszcza tych zapoczątkowanych przez platońską tradycję i kontynuowanych przez tradycję judeo-chrześcijańską, których apogeum stanowi filozofia Rene Descartesa

Get PDFThe paper describes the debates which took place during the International Workshop on “Legal Survivals in Central and Eastern Europe: Socio-Legal Perspectives on Public and Private Law” (Riga, 15–16 June 2024). The aim of the workshop was to share case studies of legal institutions that have survived despite a socio-economic and political transformation. In the context of Central and Eastern Europe, two transformations in each of the countries in the 20th century are most significant, namely the transition from (authoritarian) capitalism to state communism in the 1940s and the transition back from state communism to capitalism, but this time coupled with democracy and rule of law at the turn of the 1980s and the 1990s. There is certainly a need to analyse legal survivals in the context of Central and Eastern Europe and its transformations which have generally favoured a discontinuity of legal culture, therefore making any continuity in a sense paradoxical and in need of explanation.W artykule opisano dyskusje, jakie odbyły się podczas międzynarodowych warsztatów „Relikty prawne w Europie Środkowej i Wschodniej: społeczno-prawne perspektywy badań nad prawem publicznym i prywatnym” [„Legal Survivals in Central and Eastern Europe: Socio-Legal Perspectives on Public and Private Law”] (Ryga, 15–16 czerwca 2024 r.). Celem warsztatów było podjęcie dyskusji nad studiami przypadków instytucji prawnych, które przetrwały pomimo transformacji społeczno-gospodarczej i politycznej. W kontekście Europy Środkowo-Wschodniej najbardziej znaczące są dwie transformacje w XX wieku, a mianowicie przejście od (autorytarnego) kapitalizmu do komunizmu państwowego w latach czterdziestych XX wieku oraz ponowne przejście od komunizmu państwowego do kapitalizmu, ale tym razem w połączeniu z demokracją i rządami prawa na przełomie lat 1980 i 1990. Z pewnością istnieje potrzeba przeanalizowania form prawnych, które przetrwały w kontekście Europy Środkowo-Wschodniej i jej przemian, które generalnie sprzyjały nieciągłości kultury prawnej, czyniąc tym samym wszelką ciągłość w pewnym sensie paradoksalną i wymagającą wyjaśnienia

In the paper the following issues are discussed: rules elimination double taxation of income from cross-border services in the pre-digital era from the UN Model perspective as well as the UN Model’s response to challenges related to eliminating double taxation of income from cross-border services in the digital era as well as its possible impact on countries’ tax treaty practice. Rules governing taxation of income from cross-border services adopted by the UN Model in pre-digital era are outdated. This raises a question whether recently adopted provisions dealing with fees for technical services and automated digital services change the reality in that area.Cyfryzacja rzuca wyzwanie normom międzynarodowego prawa podatkowego w służącym eliminacji podwójnego opodatkowania dochodów z tytułu transgranicznych usług. W artykule omówiono następujące zagadnienia: zasady eliminowania podwójnego opodatkowania dochodów z tytułu usług transgranicznych w erze przed-cyfrowej z perspektywy Modelu Konwencji ONZ oraz odpowiedź Modelu Konwencji ONZ na wyzwania związane z eliminacją podwójnego opodatkowania dochodów z tytułu transgranicznych usług w erze cyfrowej oraz jej możliwy wpływ na praktykę traktatową państw. Przepisy regulujące opodatkowanie dochodów z tytułu transgranicznych usług przyjęte przez Model Konwencji ONZ w erze przed-cyfrowej są przestarzałe. Nasuwa się pytanie, czy nowe uregulowania dotyczące opłat za usługi techniczne i zautomatyzowanych usług cyfrowych zmienią ten stan rzeczy
Przywracanie pamięci o parafii ewangelickiej w Nowym Dworze i jej członkach w publikacjach Marii Kaucz (wydanych w latach 2013–2022)
Get PDFThe article concerns the non-existent luteran parish in Nowy Dwór, which was liquidated after 1945 due to the Germanness of this community. Publications about this parish and its members were presented by Maria Kaucz, a descendant of Nowy Dwór Lutherans. These publications restore the memory of the pastors who served in Nowy Dwór and the German members of the parish community and their complicated fates, with particular emphasis on Lutherans families from the Nowy Modlin colony, which was part of the parish in Nowy Dwór. The presented publishing activity of Maria Kaucz enriches the collective memory of the contemporary Lutheran diaspora.Materiał dotyczy nieistniejącej parafii luterańskiej w Nowym Dworze, która została zlikwidowana po 1945 r. ze względu na niemieckość tej społeczności. Publikacje o tej parafii i jej członkach przedstawiła Maria Kaucz, potomkini nowodworskich luteran. Publikacje te przywracają pamięć o pastorach, którzy służyli w Nowym Dworze, oraz o niemieckich członkach wspólnoty parafialnej i ich skomplikowanych losach, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem rodzin luterańskich z kolonii Nowy Modlin, która wchodziła w skład nowodworskiej parafii. Disruptive Masculinities? Male Workers Challenging Gender(ed) Norms in Technology Startup Organizations
Get PDFThe tech industry is one of the most influential and profitable sectors of the new economy, with startup organizations playing a significant role within it. Existing research highlights that these emerging companies remain male-dominated—structurally, normatively, and symbolically. However, researchers rarely consider how norms and gender inequalities, which privilege men and masculinities, might be questioned and negotiated by male employees, especially those in positions of privilege. This article examines how men occupying different roles in tech startups contest, transgress, or redefine dominant gender(ed) norms in their workplaces. Drawing on semi-structured interviews conducted between 2021 and 2023 with 43 male and female startup employees—as part of a broader study funded by the Polish National Science Centre (grant no. 2020/37/N/HS6/03913)—this analysis demonstrates how men engaging in emotional labor (on individual and collective levels), actively reconfigure the gender regime and “disrupt” the reproduction of normative models of masculinity within their companies

Dieser Artikel will zeigen, dass dies kein Zufall, sondern der Tatsache geschuldet ist, dass der Roman die Themen Feminismus und Ökologismus aufgreift. Das sind zugleich die zentralen Schwerpunkte der konvivialistischen Bewegung, die auch im Baskenland die Gesellschaft beeinflusst.Sixty years after the publication of MARLEN HAUSHOFERS novel The Wall in German (1963), a Basque translation was published for the first time in 2023. This article argues that this is no coincidence; rather, it is attributable to the fact that the novel takes up the themes of feminism and environmentalism. They are also the central focal points of the Convivialist movement, which influences society in the Basque Country.W 2023 r., 60 lat po opublikowaniu powieści MARLEN HAUSHOFER Ściana w języku niemieckim (1963) po raz pierwszy ukazało się tłumaczenie na język baskijski.
