Educational challenges for tour leader candidates in tourism and recreation studies: The case of Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań
No full textThe article examines the practical aspects and challenges in preparing students of tourism and recreation at the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań for the profession of tour leader. The findings are based on an analysis of the literature on the subject, documentation concerning the organisation of field exercises, experiences of the staff conducting these classes, and information from the economic environment. Additionally, spatial analysis of exercise routes from the years 2011–2024 was carried out. Key conclusions highlight the need to adapt educational programs to technological advancements, such as generative AI and modern navigation systems, while addressing associated risks. The study emphasizes the importance of developing narrative skills and adaptability to tourism industry changes, including deregulation and geopolitical shifts. The importance of a comprehensive approach was emphasized, combining theoretical knowledge with field practice while preparing students for the expectations of the tourism market. The authors recommend continuously improving training programs by integrating innovative teaching tools alongside traditional methods to enhance graduates’ competitiveness

No full textThis article examines the job quality of psychotherapists from the perspective of the sociology of work. Given the increasing demand for mental health services, psychotherapists are classified as ‘essential workers’. The study explores the subjective dimension of job quality, the tensions and challenges that psychotherapists experience in their work, and the coping strategies they adopt to improve their job quality. The findings reveal a dual labor market, where subjective job quality in the private sector is significantly higher than in the public sector. Publicsector psychotherapists face excessive bureaucracy and control, relatively low wages, and high work intensity, which leads them to transition to the private sector.Artykuł analizuje jakość pracy psychoterapeutów z perspektywy socjologii pracy. W obliczu rosnącego zapotrzebowania na usługi zdrowia psychicznego psychoterapeuci są klasyfikowani jako „pracownicy niezbędni” (ang. essential workers). Badanie koncentruje się na subiektywnym wymiarze jakości pracy, napięciach i wyzwaniach, z jakimi psychoterapeuci mierzą się w swojej codziennej pracy oraz strategiach radzenia sobie, które stosują w celu poprawy jakości swojej pracy. Wyniki obrazują istnienie podwójnego rynku pracy, w którym subiektywna jakość pracy w sektorze prywatnym jest znacząco wyższa niż w sektorze publicznym. Psychoterapeuci zatrudnieni w sektorze publicznym zmagają się z nadmierną biurokratyzacją i kontrolą ich pracy, stosunkowo niskimi wynagrodzeniami i dużą intensywnością pracy, co skłania ich do przechodzenia do sektora prywatnego

No full textThis article analyzes the anglicisms derived in the Diccionario del léxico juvenil en España (2023), by María Luisa Regueiro Rodríguez, from the morphological point of view, the diffusion of English abbreviations in written language and the phenomenon of pseudo-anglicisms in this lexicographic repertoire. There is currently a greater familiarity with the English language among young people, which is reflected in the high number of non-adapted loanwords they use. Similarly, it can be observed in the existence of a large number of derived forms, where orthographic and suffix variety are two of the main features. Related to them is the creativity of young people to form new words, to introduce foreign suffixes, to change original meanings and other phenomena mentioned in this paper.El artículo analiza los anglicismos derivados en el Diccionario del léxico juvenil en España (2023), de María Luisa Regueiro Rodríguez, desde el punto de vista morfológico, la difusión de abreviaturas inglesas en el lenguaje escrito y el fenómeno de los pseudoanglicismos en dicho repertorio lexicográfico. Actualmente se aprecia una mayor familiaridad con el inglés entre los jóvenes, lo cual se refleja en el elevado número de préstamos no adaptados que emplean. Del mismo modo, también se manifiesta en la gran cantidad de formas derivadas, donde la variedad ortográfica y la de sufijos son dos de las características principales. Unida a ellas se encuentra la creatividad que lleva a los jóvenes a formar palabras nuevas, introducir sufijos foráneos, cambiar significados originales y otros fenómenos mencionados en este trabajo
Osobowość moralna rewolucjonisty rosyjskiego
No full textFrom the second half of the 19th century in Tsarist Russia, due to turbulent politics and social changes, revolutionary groups (Narodnik, socialist, and anarchist) developed rapidly. To fully capture this period in the history of Russian revolutionary thought, it seems crucial to understand the ethos of a revolutionary and the moral personality that should define them. Therefore, the following article presents the personality of the Russian revolutionary. First, the concept of moral personality is briefly presented, followed by a presentation of the “Catechism of the Revolutionary” by Sergei Nechayev as a work containing premises as to the nature of the moral personality of the (anarchist) revolutionary. What follows is a reconstruction of the moral personality of a (socialist) revolutionary based on Russian revolutionary literature. The article ends with a summary underlying the conclusions from the analysis of the texts, indicating the character of the moral personality of the Russian revolutionary.Od drugiej połowy dziewiętnastego wieku w Rosji Carskiej w związku z burzliwą polityką i przemianami społecznymi gwałtownie rozwijały się ugrupowania rewolucyjne (narodnickie, socjalistyczne i anarchistyczne). Dla pełnego zobrazowania tego okresu w dziejach myśli rewolucyjnej w Rosji wyjątkowo ważne wydaje się zrozumienie ethosu rewolucjonisty i osobowości moralnej, która powinna cechować rewolucjonistę. Celem niniejszego artykułu jest częściowa rekonstrukcja obrazu rewolucjonisty rosyjskiego w rosyjskiej literaturze rewolucyjnej. W związku z tym, w poniższym artykule nakreślona została osobowość rewolucjonisty rosyjskiego. Najpierw przedstawiono w skrócie pojęcie osobowości moralnej, a następnie ukazano „Katechizm Rewolucjonisty” Siergiusza Nieczajewa jako dzieło zawierające przesłanki co do charakteru osobowości moralnej (anarchistycznego) rewolucjonisty. Kolejną częścią artykułu jest rekonstrukcja osobowości moralnej (socjalistycznego) rewolucjonisty na podstawie rosyjskiej literatury rewolucyjnej. No full textThe article explores the phenomenon of crisis identity and the emotions accompanying the awareness of climate catastrophe. The author describes the difficulty of defining ecological grief—an emotional response to environmental degradation and species extinction. She highlights related concepts such as solastalgia, eco-anxiety, and eco-shame. She proposes support circles as a safe narrative space in which experiences can be shared and loss can be made sense of. These circles serve to normalize emotions and rebuild bonds and identity in the face of contemporary crises.Artykuł prezentuje zjawisko tożsamości kryzysowej i emocji towarzyszących świadomości katastrofy klimatycznej. Autorka opisuje trudność w definiowaniu żałoby ekologicznej – emocjonalnej reakcji na degradację środowiska i wymieranie gatunków. Wskazuje na pokrewne pojęcia, jak solastalgię, eko-lęk czy eko-wstyd. No full textThe article presents findings from a covert participant observation conducted at a location belonging to a chain of alcohol retail stores. The main topics include: a portrayal of individuals addicted to alcohol who frequented the store, a discussion of the marketing strategies employed by the chain, and a comparison of these two aspects. The author relates the collected research material to sociological theories of social status and advertising and previous studies on alcohol consumption. The analysis reveals a contradiction between the store’s décor and marketing – both in message and form (e.g., portraying alcohol consumption in a positive light through colourful posters) – and the actual clientele, who were often addicted individuals of lower social status. In seeking to explain why this particular aesthetic was chosen, the author proposes a hypothesis regarding the marketing strategy of the alcohol retail chain.Artykuł prezentuje wnioski z obserwacji uczestniczącej ukrytej przeprowadzonej w punkcie sieci marketów alkoholowych. Głównymi tematami są: przedstawienie osób uzależnionych od alkoholu, które odwiedzały sklep oraz omówienie marketingu stosowanego przez sieć, następnie skonfrontowanie ze sobą tych dwóch aspektów. Autor porównuje uzyskany materiał badawczy do socjologicznych teorii statusu społecznego i reklamy, jak również wyników wcześniejszych badań na temat spożywania alkoholu. No full textAstrology today emerges as a compelling field for observing the transformations of knowledge, spirituality, and identity within late modernity – phenomena often collectively referred to as New Age. Its social vitality – despite the loss of scientific prestige after centuries of intellectual prominence – suggests that the human need for symbolic order and meaning-making narratives has not been displaced by rationality. Astrology functions as a reflective practice through which individuals construct biographies, while communities of seekers create alternative epistemic frameworks. From a sociological perspective, it constitutes a laboratory for studying the self-practice of knowledge, the production of meaning under conditions of uncertainty, and the communalization of spirituality. It demonstrates that contemporary forms of “alternative rationality” may be understood not as resistance to science, but as a cultural complement to it. The empirical dimension of the study illustrates these processes through the example of the Polish Astrological Society, highlighting the ongoing institutionalization and cultural legitimation of astrology in Poland.Astrologia wyłania się dziś jako interesujące pole obserwacji przemian wiedzy, duchowości i tożsamości w późnej nowoczesności, często opatrywanych wspólną nazwą New Age. Jej społeczna żywotność, mimo utraty – po wiekach intelektualnej świetności – naukowego prestiżu, wskazuje, że potrzeba symbolicznego porządku i narracji sensu nie została wyparta przez racjonalność. Astrologia funkcjonuje jako praktyka refleksyjna, w której jednostki konstruują biografie, a wspólnoty poszukujących tworzą alternatywne ramy epistemiczne. Z perspektywy socjologicznej stanowi ona laboratorium dla badań nad samopraktykowaniem wiedzy, nadawaniem znaczenia w warunkach niepewności oraz procesami komunitaryzacji duchowości. Pokazuje, że współczesne formy „alternatywnej racjonalności” mogą być rozumiane nie jako opór wobec nauki, lecz jako próba jej kulturowego uzupełnienia. The Fate of the Brazilian Collection of the State Zoological Museum in Warsaw Before and During the Second World War (1939–1945)
No full textBefore the Second World War, the State Zoological Museum in Warsaw was a dynamically functioning research institution, characterised by its rapidly growing collections of contemporary animals for scientific, educational and exhibition purposes. The specimens were mainly collected during expeditions organised by the museum’s staff. One of the explorers was Tadeusz Chrostowski (1878–1923), an ornithologist and head of the Neotropical Birds Department of the Museum. The naturalist organised three expeditions to Brazil in 1910–1911, 1913–1915 and 1921–1923. He explored areas of the state of Paraná that were considered the least explored. Chrostowski’s last journey, known as the Polish Zoological Expedition, received the most attention in scientific and social circles. It was the leading overseas scientific expedition organised by the newly revived Polish state. In addition to Chrostowski, the research team included the entomologist Tadeusz Jaczewski (1899–1974) and the taxidermist Stanisław Borecki (1888–1968). The team aimed to study the fauna of southern and central Paraná, specifically in areas with araucaria humid forests inhabited by Polish colonies, subtropical forests, and along the rivers Ivaí, Paraná and Iguaçu. A collection of over 22,000 zoological specimens was one of the outcomes of the fieldwork. The material included many species of birds first found in the Paraná. The collection was taken to Warsaw in 1924 and was available to researchers in the museum until 1939. The Second World War was a tragic event in the history of the institution. Not only did it interrupt scientific and research activities, but it also contributed to the loss of part of the collection. Among the museum’s war losses were more than 2 million animal specimens, including more than 20,000 of Chrostowski’s specimens. The collections were destroyed, confiscated and exported and many were dispersed. Research into the history of Chrostowski’s collection aims to reconstruct and describe it, as well as to spread knowledge of the wartime losses suffered by the State Zoological Museum during the Second World War
