Nitro matcha z Kopenhagi, Avobagiel z San Francisco, Kimchibowl z Berlina. Przyjemnościowa analiza zjawiska Global Brooklyn
The article explores the Global Brooklyn phenomenon described by Mateusz Halawa and Fabio Parasecoli, as a cultural formation that is transforming urban gastronomic spaces, making them centralized zones of consumer pleasure and aesthetic experience. Among other things, the author refers to the reflections of Jean Anthelme Brillat-Savarin, pointing out that the practices associated with the production and consumption of food form the foundation of social life, revealing the cultural structures on which everyday life is based. Spaces designed for pleasure become places where locality and individualism are subordinated to global patterns, promoting uniformity of experience and perception. The article analyzes how these spaces, despite their claimed authenticity and pursuit of sensory fulfillment, function within market mechanisms, becoming a tool for controlling how society experiences urban space.
KAZIMIERZ LEWY: ZAPOMNIANY POLSKI FILOZOF ANALITYCZNY Z CAMBRIDGE
Casimir Lewy (1919 – 1991) was an analytical philosopher born and raised in Poland, who worked and taught at the University of Cambridge. He left behind one book, Meaning and Modality published in 1976, as well as more than a dozen articles and reviews. He was remembered by his students as an exceptional teacher. This article is a reflection on whether Lewy should be called a forgotten philosopher, who perhaps deserves to be considered more widely as a Polish contributor to the advancements in analytic philosophy. To this end, the author presents and analyses 15 articles by Lewy published between 1937 and 1964, which are divided into four thematic categories: topics related to the justification of empirical propositions, epistemological topics other than justification, semiotics, and problems in the area of logic or set theory.
Passions, Travel, and Cultural Participation—Intergenerational Transmission of Middle-Class Lifestyles
The article addresses the intergenerational transmission of a middle-class lifestyle in Poland. The analysis demonstrates mechanisms through which cultural practices are inherited in the context of leisure activities. The following categories of leisure activities were identified as being of particular interest: 1) passions, that is, the most pronounced leisure interests, including sport, 2) travel, 3) various forms of cultural participation, such as reading, visual and performing arts, or audiovisual content. The innovative research plan included reanalysis, revisits, and new in-depth interviews. The findings are based on a substantial corpus of qualitative empirical material, comprising 66 individual in-depth interviews. This material covers interviews conducted approximately twenty years before my research, new interviews with the same participants conducted subsequently, and interviews with their adult children. The aforementioned methodological procedures permitted comparisons over time and between generations. Middle-class parents proactively transmit values and practices to their children that are instrumental in maintaining their children’s social status. The effort to format lifestyle messages has significant implications for the long-term viability of this social structure segment in Poland. The analyses conducted indicate the cultural identity of the middle class and the stability of values and practices enacted in non-work and non-educational leisure time. Consequently, they are expected to yield tangible benefits in the professional and educational domains for subsequent generations. This represents the anticipated return on investment in leisure time for middle-class children
Changes in body composition (muscle mass and adipose tissue) among adolescents aged 11–15 from Kraków during the COVID-19 pandemic
Study aim: To assess changes in body composition, specifically focusing on muscle mass and adipose tissue, among adolescents aged 11–15 in Kraków during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Materials and Methods: Cross-sectional studies were conducted in four selected districts of the city of Kraków in the years 2020 and 2022 (before and after the COVID-19 pandemic). The study group included adolescents aged 11–15 years. The percentage of body fat (%BF) was measured using the bioimpedance method. Additionally, measurements of height, arm circumference, and skinfold thickness of triceps were taken using a skinfold calliper. The collected data were used to calculate the Corrected Arm Muscle Area (CAMA). The normality of the distribution of each feature was assessed using the Shapiro-Wilk test. Statistical analysis was performed to compare differences between groups using two-way ANOVA with Tukey’s HSD post-hoc test or the Kruskal-Wallis test.
Results: Among girls, a decrease in muscle mass was observed in most age categories. The opposite trend was observed among boys, as an increase in muscle mass was observed in most of the age groups. Girls were characterized by a decrease in the %BF in all cohorts, while in boys, an increase in the %BF was observed among 11,13 and 15-year-olds. In most age groups, there was an increase in the average muscle mass and increase in the %BF depending on BMI (Body Mass Index) categories in both sexes.
Conclusions: This study found no notable variances in muscle mass and %BF within the examined group amid the COVID-19 pandemic. While certain outcomes indicated regression, possibly linked to reduced physical activity or prolonged sedentary periods, not all research findings exhibited decline. This could be attributed to online physical activity or enhanced dietary habits
Biesiada, muzyka, taniec, czyli współczesne wesele jako forma zabawy w powiecie garwolińskim
Polish traditional wedding shows varieties of cultural patterns, that’s why it contains many elements, that are very interesting to research from anthropological point of view. Depending on researcher’s interestings and cultural context, it was considered from many different perspectives. But we live in fast developing world, socio-cultural context is changing, so there is also needed the reconsideration of some elements of culture. This is why I wanted to show transformation of functions of wedding rituals at the polish village. The change of magical symbolism for the entertaining symbolism. My idea was to show contemporary wedding ritual more as a party, where the old mixes with the new. What elements of tradition survived and how they were transformed. Underlining the influence of fashion and pop culture I wanted to prove that saving traditional form and idea, general function of wedding ritual has been changed. Today, traditional polish wedding is more a party than ritual, party that needs long time prepartion, money, party that marks social status of organizers and that is under the influence more of fashion than tradition
Przestrzenie współistnienia we współczesnej literaturze niemieckojęzycznej
From the origins and beginnings of the Literatures of the World, in the Epics of Gilgamesh, in the chinese Book of Songs or the tales of Thousandandone Nights, the spaces for living together have played a major role. The shaping of these spaces of conviviality have created, during a long literary history, the aesthetic expression of literature within very different cultures. In an age of massive migration, German literature is highly characterized by the Literatures with no Fixed Abode.
Prehistory and Protohistory in Sicily. A Geometric Morphometrics Approach to Study the Biological History of Early Human Peopling of the Island
In recent years, the debate about the early human peopling of Sicily has almost exclusively focused on the archaeological evidence. The dispersal patterns and the possibility for, and degree of, admixture caused by ancient migratory flows have been only investigated in limited anthropological studies conducted on a short time spans. Recent craniofacial morphometric analyses that considered migratory flows and population influx have provided a more comprehensive approach. These analyses go beyond archaeologically based settlement hypotheses by merging previous archaeological evaluations and paleoclimatic studies with an anthropological approach. This study expands upon earlier morphometric work and provides an overview covering the period from the Upper Palaeolithic to the Iron Age. For this study, human skulls from Sicilian Prehistory and Protohistory were considered. These skulls were divided into six periods based on the dating of associated archaeological artifacts. Sample selection was based on a detailed bibliographic review of previously published archaeological and historical works. With the aim of associating the diachronic changes in cranial morphology with population migrations and admixture we performed a 3D geometric morphometrics (GM) comparative analysis. The data reported demonstrate that the first colonization of Sicily started during the Upper–Paleolithic when stable climatic conditions allowed hunter-gatherers to move from the Italian Peninsula to the island. Moreover, the results show a cyclical occupation of the land counterclockwise direction completed only with the hinterland colonization in the first historical periods with Greek and Punic colonization
Green bond standards as a way to reduce information asymmetry
The purpose of the article. The purpose of the article is to systematize knowledge in the field of green bond standards as well as examine the differences between the most popular of them. The aim is to question whether the requirements of individual standards actually reduce information asymmetry on the part of investors in the market.
Methodology. The texts of the 5 most popular green bond standards in the world were analyzed and were compared with each other, outlining the 5 most important categories in the context of information asymmetry, according to the author. The work contains the comparison of the standards and identifies the differences between them.
Results of the research. The results of the research can be summarized as follows. The conducted research allowed for the identification of differences between individual standards and the assessment of whether these differences have a significant impact on the asymmetry of information in the green bond market. The study results show that green bond standards are not an ideal way to reduce the negative effects of information asymmetry in the market. The study shows the need to standardize the requirements for issuers who want to have a certificate that is an actual confirmation of high-quality green bonds in order to eliminate information asymmetry in the market
Ewolucja i znaczenie bankowych kanałów dystrybucji
The purpose of the article. The aim of this article is to present and evaluate the distribution channels used by retail banks, the determinants of banks\u27 choice of these channels, and the directions of changes. The study will seek to answer the research question of what the evolution of distribution channels for banking products and services entails and what determines it.
Methodology. In analysing the banking distribution channels, the method of review and critical, descriptive and comparative analysis of the literature and reports of the banking sector was used.
Results of the research. Changes in distribution channels have been presented, from the basic model of distribution known for many years, which is the bank branch, to modern multichannel and omnichannel models. Using the example of changes in customer approach to the increasing use of the Internet and mobile applications in banking, the directions of changes in the banking sector\u27s approach to the use of available distribution channels have been shown. The shift of customers from bank branches to the Internet and mobile applications, where customers have already learned to perform simple banking operations, has forced changes in the banking sector. Directions in the banking sector\u27s move away from traditional brick-and-mortar branches towards combining them with other channels such as call centers, the Internet, or mobile applications to reduce costs and increase business efficiency have been indicated. Banks, by reducing costs and adapting to the observed trend of customers moving to remote channels, are beginning to reorganize their distribution network, including the bank branches themselves.
Metodyka. Poddając analizie bankowe kanały dystrybucji wykorzystano metodę przeglądu i analizy krytycznej, opisowej, i porównawczej literatury oraz raportów sektora bankowego.
Wyniki badania. Na przykładzie zmian w podejściu klienta do rosnącego wykorzystania Internetu i aplikacji mobilnych w bankowości, pokazano kierunki zmian w podejściu sektora bankowego do wykorzystania dostępnych kanałów dystrybucji.
