No full textThe jubilee monograph Scientific Schools and Research Directions at the Faculty of Economics and Sociology, University of Łódź: The Present and the Future has been prepared to mark the 60th anniversary of the Faculty of Economics and Sociology of the University of Łódź—one of the most interdisciplinary academic units in Poland. The publication summarizes the Faculty’s scientific, research, and teaching achievements between 2015 and 2025, highlighting its development in the context of transformations in higher education. The editors and authors of the chapters describing the activities of individual institutes emphasize the continuity of scientific traditions combined with openness to new research areas, international collaboration, and the implementation of innovative teaching methods. The monograph presents eight institutes operating within the Faculty, describing their structure, leading research directions, cooperation with the socio-economic environment, contributions to the development of economic and sociological sciences, and the scholarly achievements of individual researchers. The publication also underscores the Faculty’s role as a hub integrating various scientific schools, educating students in over twenty study programmes, and maintaining broad cooperation with external partners. The work discusses the challenges faced by universities in 2025. No full textSecurity is one of the fundamental and most important goals of state policy. The desire to achieve a state of security is the result of a sense of growing threat and a belief in the possibility of eliminating traditional threats known from history. In order to ensure national and international security, the state implements security policy assumptions. The situation in the Middle East, including the policy pursued by the Islamic Republic of Iran since 2001, is of particular importance for international security. The uniqueness of the Islamic Republic of Iran can be explained by the fact that it is located at the crossroads of important trade routes and connects the areas of the Middle East, the South Caucasus, Central Asia and the Indian Peninsula. Its significance also determines the potential it possesses, by which we mean its political, economic, military, population, cultural and historical capabilities. The security policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran has never been haphazard. The changing geopolitical situation around Iran\u27s borders since 2001 has determined its security policy, especially towards Afghanistan and Pakistan. Relations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Afghanistan and Pakistan are the result of conquests spanning centuries, whose influence on the political, economic and social development of these countries is very visible today. Despite the existence of strong ties between the Islamic Republic of Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan, relations and cooperation between them are difficult and ambiguous. Iran, in its policies towards Afghanistan and Pakistan, demonstrates that it understands its international environment well and tries to carefully guide its security policy towards Kabul and Islamabad.Bezpieczeństwo jest jednym z podstawowych i najważniejszych celów polityki państwa. Dążenie do uzyskania stanu bezpieczeństwa jest efektem poczucia narastania niebezpieczeństwa oraz przekonania o możliwości eliminacji dotychczas znanych z historii tradycyjnych zagrożeń. Państwo w celu zapewnienia bezpieczeństwa narodowego, jak i międzynarodowego realizuje założenia polityki bezpieczeństwa. Szczególne znaczenie dla bezpieczeństwa międzynarodowego ma sytuacja na Bliskim Wschodzie, w tym polityka prowadzona przez Islamską Republikę Iranu po 2001 roku. Wyjątkowość Islamskiej Republiki Iranu można wytłumaczyć tym, że znajduje się na skrzyżowaniu ważnych szlaków handlowych i łączy ze sobą obszar Bliskiego Wschodu, Kaukazu Południowego, Azji Centralnej i Półwyspu Indyjskiego. Jej znaczenie determinuje również potencjał jaki posiada, przez co rozumie się jej możliwości polityczne, gospodarcze, militarne, ludnościowe, kulturowo-historyczne. Polityka bezpieczeństwa Islamskiej Republiki Iranu nigdy nie miała charakteru przypadkowego. Zmieniająca się sytuacja geopolityczna od 2001 roku wokół granic Iranu zdeterminowała jego politykę bezpieczeństwa, szczególnie wobec Afganistanu i Pakistanu. Relacje między Islamską Republiką Iranu a Afganistanem i Pakistanem są skutkiem podbojów trwających na przestrzeni wieków, których wpływ na rozwój polityczny, gospodarczy czy społeczny tych państw jest współcześnie bardzo widoczny. Pomimo istnienia silnych więzi między Islamską Republiką Iranu, Afganistanem i Pakistanem, stosunki i współpraca między nimi są trudne i niejednoznaczne. Iran w swojej polityce wobec Afganistanu i Pakistanu wykazuje, że dobrze rozumie swoje otoczenie międzynarodowe i próbuje starannie wyznaczać kierunki swojej polityki bezpieczeństwa wobec Kabulu i Islamabadu

No full textEconomic and planning activities should take into account the local natural environment. Geological structure and topography are fundamental components of the natural system. They determine water and soil conditions, influence the quality of building land and largely determine land use and development. This study presents the characteristics of sediments and landforms in the lowland part of Poland and their importance in spatial management. Landforms and deposits of glacial, fluvioglacial, aeolian, fluvial and peat origin are analyzed. The relationships between geological structure, landforms, and land use are demonstrated. This book is a scholarly work, but it can also be valuable support for practitioners preparing various planning studies, students of spatial management and those wishing to deepen their knowledge of the natural environment.Podejmowane działania gospodarcze i planistyczne powinny uwzględniać lokalne środowisko przyrodnicze. Budowa geologiczna i rzeźba terenu należą do podstawowych składowych systemu przyrodniczego. To one warunkują gleby, stosunki wodne, wpływają na jakość gruntów budowlanych oraz w dużej mierze decydują o sposobach użytkowania ziemi i zagospodarowania.
W publikacji przedstawiono charakterystykę osadów i budowę form terenu w nizinnej części Polski oraz ich znaczenie w gospodarce przestrzennej. Przeanalizowano formy i osady pochodzenia glacjalnego, fluwioglacjalnego, eolicznego, fluwialnego i torfowego. Wskazano zależności między budową geologiczną, formą rzeźby terenu a sposobami użytkowania.
