Identity Construction in the Digital Age: The Impact of Social Media on American Cultural Dynamics
Social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter have significantly influenced identity formation and cultural change in the United States. This study examines the role of these platforms in shaping personal and collective identities, particularly among adolescents and adults. It also explores their contribution to social movements such as ‘Black Lives Matter’ and ‘Me Too’. The research investigates the impact of social media on American youth culture, consumer behavior, and political engagement. Data were collected through content analysis and interviews, focusing on user self-presentation and its influence on social and cultural experiences. The findings suggest that while social media enables self-expression, it also creates pressures to conform to idealized identities. This study highlights the complex relationship between identity construction and the cultural influence of social media, providing insights into its broader implications for American society
Culture as a Backdrop to Language: Idioms and Mindset
Idioms are the unpredictable elements of language, often confusing both speakers and linguists. They are expressions whose meanings go beyond the literal definitions of their individual words, making them tricky to understand and use correctly. Defined as fixed groups of words with a special, often figurative meaning, idioms are treated as single linguistic units. They are stable in form, regularly reproduced in speech or writing, and cannot usually be altered without losing their meaning. The richness of a language also becomes palpable when we take a close look at the idioms, since idioms are first and foremost associated with cultural mindset. It’s a well acknowledged fact that idioms frequently reference shared cultural practices, historical events, or beliefs that may not be immediately recognizable outside that culture. The relationship between idioms and culture is profound, as idioms often carry embedded cultural values. They offer insight into the values and worldview of a particular culture, and thus studying idioms is essential for understanding not just language, but the cultural context from which it originates. Translating idioms can feel like solving a puzzle, but with pieces from different places and languages. Idioms are tricky because they don’t always make sense when you translate them directly. They often have hidden meanings or funny cultural references that don’t work in another language. The paper reports research findings, from cross-cultural study of food idioms through the lens of translation. The paper also seeks to underline the pivotal role of translator as mediators between the two different cultures
The NCAA and Antitrust: Guardians of Amateurism to Guarantors of Continued Chaos? Part I: A Focus on the NCAA
The NCAA is a massive organization, employing around 3,165 individuals, with about 500 working at its national office in Indianapolis. Since its founding in 1906 in response to the crisis in American football, the power of the NCAA over college athletics, largely based upon the principle of amateurism, had been unchecked. That is, until universities and athletes began to “fight back,” arguing that NCAA policies denied them the right to receive compensation for broadcast rights, or for the use of their name, image, or likeness (NIL), or for a share of the massive revenues generated by college sports. This article is Part I of a comprehensive study of the history, organization and membership, enforcement powers, and revenues of the NCAA. Part II analyzes several major cases decided on the basis of the relationship between NCAA policies and antitrust law in such areas an NIL rights, revenue sharing and other issues. The article also analyzes several proposals for major reforms of the NCAA in a closing comment on “NCAA at a Crossroads.”
The NCAA and Antitrust: Guardians of Amateurism to Guarantors of Continued Chaos? Part II: The NCAA, Antitrust, and Reform
This article is Part II of a comprehensive study of NCAA. Part I addresses issues relating to the organization, structure, finances, enforcement powers, and history of the NCAA. Part II focuses on legal issues as the NCAA interfaces with antitrust law in such areas an NIL rights, revenue sharing, eligibility, and other issues. The article also analyzes several proposals for major reforms of the NCAA that have been introduced in the United States Congress in a closing commentary on “NCAA at a Crossroads.”
Marketing Livestock and Meat Products from Drylands: A Case Study of Abattoirs and Meat Eateries in Turkana, Kenya
The economy of Kenya's arid and semi-arid regions is predominantly based on livestock husbandry. In Turkana, livestock farming supports over 60% of the people, serving as a source of sustenance, income, and capital for varied livelihoods. Abattoirs and livestock markets are essential enterprises that connect livestock-producing regions, herders, and traders with prospective markets. Conversely, operational issues have significantly impeded the functionality, competitiveness, and profitability of Kenyan abattoirs and livestock markets. The study aimed to (i) evaluate the performance of abattoirs and livestock markets in Kenya's drylands and comparable areas in Eastern Africa; (ii) ascertain the importance of abattoirs and meat eateries to the economy of livestock farmers and traders in Turkana; and (iii) examine the effects of performance-limiting factors on the outputs of abattoirs, livestock markets, and meat eateries in Turkana. The study was structured using exploratory and descriptive research designs, utilising a mixed methods technique for data collecting, involving 96 study participants. The study results indicated that abattoirs, livestock markets, and meat eateries are substantially hindered by several political, economic, social, cultural, legal, technological, and environmental issues. The Pareto Chart identifies insufficient funding for marketing operations, pervasive internal and cross-border conflicts, governmental legislation and policy, and considerable distances to markets as the primary impediments contributing to numerous other challenges impacting the livestock sector's performance in Turkana. The study underscores the necessity of structuring livestock marketing operations by utilising corporate models that prioritise risk aversion, market orientation, capitalisation and rationalization of consumer bahaviour. Strategic management and marketing, comprehensive market analysis, guaranteed government and donor financing, formation of public-private partnerships, livestock business diversification, and conversion of abattoirs, livestock markets and meat eateries into cooperative societies would enhance livestock sector performance in terms of competitiveness, profitability, and sustainability.
Vehicle-pavement Interaction Under Thermal and Vehicle Speed Actions Using Deep Learning Method
Finite element analysis (FEA) is usually used to understand the behavior of the structure such as pavement structure. Besides, the pavement roughness, temperature and vehicle speed can be considered as the main factors which may influence the vehicle riding comfort and serviceability of the asphalt layer. FEA process is generally used to study the vehicle running along the pavement structure. Unfortunately, FEA is time consuming when the process should be iterating thousand time. Therefore, this study introduces a deep learning (DL) model. By taking the elasticity modulus, temperature and vehicle velocity as main inputs to predict the strain, stress, deflection, and heat flux responses of the pavement structure. FEA provided a bunch of images recorded during the simulation to train the DL model. The asphalt pavement of Babadjou-Bamenda road located in Cameroon’s western region has been selected for case study. The results shown that The Deep learning model can predict the results with accuracy and effectiveness, the NMAE error is less than 2%. The foundation layer thickness decreases with the traffic speed. Moreover, results shown that the mean of the vertical displacement corresponding to pavement roughness with Class B profile is higher than the pavement roughness with Class A
On the Use of the ‘Relativistic’ Photon Momentum in the Massive Photon Scattering Model
A massive photon scattering model considering the photon ‘relativistic’ momentum as described by the special theory of relativity (STR) was presented. The photon rest mass obtained in this way is about 2E-31kg for the quantum mechanical (QM) photon momentum model and about 4E-32 kg for the STR momentum model. When the photon and the electron masses are determined simultaneously from the experimental data, the average electron rest mass obtained was only about 0.5% (relative error) different from the well- known electron rest mass when using the QM photon momentum and about 10% when using the STR momentum. The obtained average photon rest mass for the QM model was ~8.9E-32 kg and ~3.7E-32 kg for the model using the photon relativistic momentum. Note that the obtained photon rest mass values are very large when compared with common upper bounds reported in the literature and are inside the range of the dark photon mass needed for some cosmological (gravitational) models and are also inside the mass range of some current experimental dark photon search

Quantum communications has emerged as an important paradigm for achieving secure fast communications. Significant technological breakthroughs have been achieved in this area over the years using quantum optics. In contrast, quantum microwaves are recently beginning to receive increased attention, due in part to the potential for an easier integration with current microwave communications infrastructure. This paper explores the generation, propagation and detection of quantum microwaves as processes required for open-air communication. It presents a brief description of the theory and provides a summary of recent progress in these operations. The paper ends by highlighting challenges regarding the practical realization of this technology
The Study on the Structure and Physical Properties of Indigo Carmine
This study explores the structure-activity relationship of Indigo Carmine (IC) at the molecular level, aiming to enhance the understanding of its physical and chemical properties. The molecular structure of IC was analyzed using Density Functional Theory (DFT), specifically the GGA-BLYP method at the DZ basis set level. Geometric structural parameters, including bond lengths, bond angles, and dihedral angles, were obtained through theoretical calculations. For example, the calculated C-S bond length is 1.81 Å, and the C=O bond length is 1.220 Å, both of which align closely with experimental values. Infrared (IR) spectrum analysis revealed the presence of pyrrole and benzene ring structures in IC. The high vibrational frequencies indicate strong chemical bonds within the molecule, making them resistant to breakage and demonstrating relatively low reactivity. However, redox reactions can occur under specific conditions due to the π bonds formed by the p orbitals of carbon atoms at positions C(7) and C(8). Additionally, the calculated LogP value for Indigo Carmine is 3.06060. The study examined the molecular configuration, dipole moment, hydrophobic parameter, infrared spectroscopy, and frontier orbital structure in detail. The findings highlight IC's unique physical and chemical properties, identifying the primary sites of redox reactions as the C and D rings
Progress & Tradition: Challenges in Morocco and other Predominantly Muslim Nations
This paper explores Morocco’s intricate balancing act as a Muslim-majority nation navigating the tension between progressive leadership and traditional societal expectations. It examines how Morocco’s monarchy and political elites, often shaped by Western education and global partnerships, pursue modernization in areas such as economic reform, gender equality, and infrastructure development. At the same time, the paper highlights the challenges posed by deeply rooted religious, tribal, and cultural values that shape the perspectives of the broader populace. Through an analysis of Morocco’s governance strategies, including leveraging religious authority, fostering gradual reform, and engaging with Western allies, the paper underscores the complexities of aligning modern aspirations with traditional identities. The Moroccan case provides valuable insights into the broader dynamics of leadership in Muslim-majority nations facing similar crossroads
