Sustainable Pedagogical Space: Water Risk Reduction Management Through Permaculture Pedagogy

    No full text
This study explores a Permaculture design approach to promote water conservation and reduce water dependency, particularly in response to plastic pollution. Permaculture emphasizes water ethics, conservation principles, rainwater harvesting (via tanks, soil, land, and biomass), greywater reuse, and biological remediation techniques for water recycling and purification. The study applies a contextually adapted environmental pedagogy based on Permaculture for primary school students in North Sumatra, Indonesia, focusing on sustainable water conservation and plastic litter risk reduction. A case study method was employed, targeting schools that voluntarily participated. The approach highlights three commonly overlooked dimensions in environmental education: community connection, place-based authenticity, and experience-based learning. Engaging young learners in local environmental monitoring, management, and communication aligns with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), and SDG 14 (Life Below Water). Thematic analysis revealed five key outcomes related to eco-pedagogy and place-based learning: (1) developing critical thinking through connections between past and present marine conditions; (2) identifying the stages of plastic degradation; (3) fostering respect for aquatic life and awareness of plastic waste impacts; (4) understanding local waterway issues from ditches to rivers and cultivating environmental responsibility; and (5) recognizing socio-environmental linkages through reflective activities such as letter-writing to local authorities. Findings emphasize the value of involving young participants in environmental initiatives, particularly those addressing plastic pollution and sustainable resource management. The study also proposes practical pedagogical strategies rooted in Permaculture principles for students, families, schools, and local communities

Factors Associated with the Severity of Erythema Nodosum Leprosum Reactions

    No full text
Background: Leprosy is a chronic infection caused by Mycobacterium leprae. Leprosy reactions, including erythema nodosum leprosum (ENL), are induced by immune responses. ENL can cause neurological damage and deformities that result in disabilities. This study aimed to identify factors associated with the severity of ENL to help control the leprosy reactions. Methods: This was an analytical study on 148 patients with ENL reactions, who were divided into two groups based on the severity of their reactions. A retrospective cross–sectional study was conducted in the medical record unit of Sitanala Hospital, Tangerang, Banten, Indonesia, from May 2022 to April 2024. Data evaluated included age, gender, leprosy types, treatment status, duration of illness, clinical manifestations, involvement of other organs, disability, comorbidities, acid-fast bacilli, and laboratory examination. Categorical data was analyzed with chi-square test or Fisher’s exact test, and numerical data was analyzed with the Mann-Whitney test. Significance is determined at p \u3c 0.05. Results: Characteristics including age, neuritis, skin ulcers, and comorbidities differ significantly between mild and severe ENL (p = 0.034; \u3c 0.001; \u3c 0.001; and 0.003, respectively). Severe ENL reactions tend to occur more frequently in older patients, and is associated with higher bacterial index (p = 0.004) and lower sodium and albumin levels (p = 0.014 and \u3c 0.001, respectively). Conclusion: Age, neuritis, skin ulcer, comorbidities, bacterial index, as well as sodium and albumin levels were associated with the severity of ENL reactions. Appropriate management is required to prevent further complications

Royalti Sebagai Harta Bersama dan Akibat Hukumnya Dalam Perceraian

    No full text
This study examines the legal status of royalties as legal objects in the context of intellectual property law and family law, particularly as part of community property in marriage. Royalties represent the economic rights derived from copyright, which are intangible, transferable, pledgeable, and inheritable, yet remain special and personal (sui generis) to the creator. The absence of explicit regulation within Indonesia’s positive legal framework creates legal uncertainty, especially concerning the division of community property after divorce. This research aims to analyze the legal status of royalties as property objects and marital assets, as well as to assess the legal considerations in Religious Court Decision No. 1622/Pdt.G/2023/PAJB. The research uses a normative juridical method through literature review and case analysis. The findings analyze the panel of judges’ legal reasoning in the decision regarding the existence of royalties as legal property objects, community property within marital law, and the inherent rights attached to royalties as objects of intellectual property law. The study also recommends the formulation of regulations governing the division of royalties as marital property and emphasizes the importance of prenuptial agreements to prevent future disputes

The Effect of Blue Light Filter Lens Glasses on The Occurrence of Asthenopia Symptoms in Visual Display Terminal Users

    No full text
The widespread use of Visual Display Terminals (VDTs) is associated with visual and musculoskeletal complaints, particularly Asthenopia, which may reduce productivity. A 32-year-old female financial worker presented with eye discomfort, including sore eyes, blurred vision, dizziness, and twitching on her left temple, particularly during extended computer use. The symptoms were relieved with rest. Most VDTs now use Light Emitting Diodes, which emit more blue light than LCDs and may cause eye fatigue and disrupt sleep. Currently, blue light filter lenses are available in the market, however, further study of existing scientific publications is necessary to ensure the effectiveness of blue light filter lenses, which are claimed to reduce asthenopia symptoms. This Evidence-based case report (EBCR) questions whether blue-light filter lens glasses alleviate symptoms of Asthenopia in workers A literature search in PubMed, Cochrane, and Embase identified Systematic Reviews, Meta-Analyses, and Randomized Controlled Trials (RCTs) evaluating blue light filter lenses in VDT users. These studies assessed objective measures (Critical Flicker Fusion Frequency—CFF) and subjective symptoms via questionnaires. The research papers were critically reviewed using the Oxford CEBM criteria for therapy (intervention) studies. Four Randomized Controlled Trial research articles met our criteria. However, the results did not provide conclusive evidence. There was no significant improvement in Critical Fusion Frequency (CFF), nor a reduction in subjective symptoms based on questionnaires. All studies varied in methodology, filter specifications, outcome tools, and subject characteristics. Therefore, blue light filter lenses cannot yet be clinically recommended for reducing asthenopia symptoms in VDT users. Further research is needed with a stronger design, larger sample size, and clearer standards and operational definitions

Are Digital and Social Media Marketing Matters for Tajikistan’s Youth Travelers?

    No full text
This research examines the influence of social media and online marketing on the travel behaviours of youth -domestic - tourists in a capital city of Tajikistan, Dushanbe, as the main destination. With the development of new technologies in the modern digital age, digital tools could significantly change the preferences of travellers to choose tourism destinations. In this regard, social media, with its wide audience through Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, and others, became not only an effective tool for tourism marketing but also for affecting tourism decision-making processes. That\u27s why the study examines the impact of tourists’ attitudes towards online tourism information, such as information quality and its user-friendly accessibility, satisfaction, interaction with digital marketing tools, and behavioural intentions, including intention to visit tourism destinations and electronic word of mouth (eWOM). Adopting a quantitative approach, this study is supposed to conduct a detailed online survey of at minimum 102 respondents among two demographic groups named Gen Z and Millennials aged 18 to 40 years. Data from the initially conducted online survey of 30 respondents who had the ability to organize the travel by usage of digital marketing tools. Based on it, the data were analysed for reliability and validity using IBM SPSS 26. Following that, the main data is expected to be analysed through SEM using Smart PLS 4. The results are expected to show that accessible and high-quality online tourism content strongly shapes tourist satisfaction, which in turn mediates behavioural intentions of travellers. This study is expected to add new literature to the limited research on digital tourism behaviour in Central Asia. That\u27s why it provides practical suggestions for the local tourism agency in Tajikistan to enhance digital strategies to attract more tourists to the destinations

Using toilets is a simple way to prevent diarrhea, yet no validated tool exists to measure this habit. This study aimed to develop and validate instruments for measuring latrine use consistency. This questionnaire was adapted from the risk, attitude, norm, ability, and self-regulation (RANAS) framework developed in India and modified for Indonesia. It was evaluated by three experts using the content validity index (CVI). The face validity index (FVI) was pilot-tested on 40 community respondents. Variables measured included behavior, habits, intentions to use toilets, knowledge, attitudes, norms, abilities, and self-regulation. Question items with relevance and clarity scores of item CVI above 0.80 were considered valid and appropriate. Item scoring 0.70–0.79 required revisions, while scores below 0.70 led to deletion. The relevance and clarity assessment results for behavioral, intention, knowledge, norm, and attitude to use toilet questions yielded a scale CVI of more than 0.80, indicating that all items were valid and reliable. However, the habits, abilities, and self-regulation variables had varying I-CVI scores, indicating a need to revise or remove certain items. A culturally adapted and validated RANAS-based instrument is reliable for measuring latrine use behavior in Indonesia

Grundnorm, Pure Theory of Law, and Monism in the Dynamics of International Law

    No full text
The Grundnorm is Hans Kelsen’s teaching that was integrated into his theory known as the Pure Theory of Law. The Grundnorm is the highest source of legal imperative, which is accepted by every individual human being, based on his free will to submit orders that are no longer debated because they are accepted as truth. The Grundnorm being the source of the validity of legal imperatives, it means that is the highest source of the validity of regulatory law within the scope of national and international law. This is the background of the justification of the Monism school, which is part of the teachings in the Legal-Positivism school. This paper aims to describe the relationship between The Pure Theory of Law as the basis for justifying the existence of Monism. It also seeks to answer whether Monism can still be the basis for justifying the existence of international law. The results showed that Immanuel Kant’s teaching about the developmental stages of human recognition of the universe culminated in the ratio-practical and became the source of the development of Hans Kelsen’s legal teaching on the Grundnorm. Based on Hans Kelsen’s teaching, the Grundnorm is a pre-supposed source of necessity that is formed based on free will, but it is not created through formal procedures by the state. When examined from a sociological perspective, Monism, as a doctrine in the Legal-Positivism school, presupposes the state of society that develops linearly and statically. Monism’s validity was questioned when fundamental changes occurred in state relations in the post-World War II era. These fundamental changes are further accelerated in the post-globalization era, which is based on the demand for justice in relations between states with international legal instruments

Corny Landscapes: Strategi Adaptasi Petani Gorontalo dalam Menghadapi Kebijakan Agropolitan Jagung

    No full text
The corn agropolitan policy implemented in Gorontalo in the early 2000s brought significant changes to the lives of local farmers. This paper explores the impact of the policy on the social and economic aspects of farmers\u27 lives. The most notable change is the shift from subsistence practices to market-oriented production, creating what Eric Wolf describes as the peasant dilemma. Furthermore, the policy has triggered the emergence of middlemen and private actors who exploit the agricultural sector, trapping farmers in persistent poverty and precarious working conditions. This study employs qualitative methods with an ethnographic approach, including direct observation and interviews conducted in five villages across Gorontalo. The findings reveal that while the agropolitan policy has successfully crafted a positive narrative of development, it often obscures the realities faced by farmers. Instead of improving their lives, the policy exacerbates economic inequality, fosters the misuse of political and economic power, damages the environment, and erodes local knowledge. This paper also highlights various adaptation strategies employed by farmers to address these challenges, such as resisting dominant actors, seeking alternative livelihoods, and reviving traditions as a form of catharsis for the difficulties they endure

The aviation sector is one of the work areas that requires the implementation of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS). Work in the aviation sector also presents various risks, one of which can occur in work accidents caused by fatigue. Based on preliminary studies conducted on Aviation Security Officers (AVSEC), there are symptoms of work fatigue. The study aims to determine the relationship of repetitive motion, workload, work shifts, and sleep quality with job fatigue in AVSEC officers. The research used a quantitative observational study with an analytic design through a cross-sectional approach with a total of 76 AVSEC officers. The instruments are stopwatch to measure repetitive motion, NASA-TLX questionnaire to measure the level mental workload, pulse oximeter to determine physical workload, PSQI questionnaire to determine sleep quality, and IFRC questionnaire to determine work fatigue. Data analyzed using Spearman\u27s rank test and ordinal logistic regression test. The results show a significant relationship between all independent variables, namely repetitive motion (p-value \u3c0.001), mental workload (p value \u3c0.001), physical workload (p value = 0.041), work shift (p value = 0.002), and sleep quality (p value \u3c0.001) with job fatigue. The most related variable in this study with work fatigue variable is mental workload variable (p-value = 0.002)

Public Policy and the Refusal to Enforce Foreign Arbitral Awards: A Comparative Analysis of France, Singapore, and Vietnam

    No full text
The multilateral frameworks governing the recognition and enforcement of arbitral awards, such as the 1958 New York Convention, along with the domestic laws of most states, are generally designed to promote the efficient enforcement of foreign arbitral awards. However, practical experience reveals inconsistencies in its application. While many states adhere to international principles, some - despite being signatories to the Convention - have exploited the broad concept of public policy to unjustifiably refuse enforcement within their jurisdictions. Conversely, other states have adopted a more restrictive approach, limiting the public policy exception to ensure predictability in enforcement. This article focuses on the use of the public policy exception in France and Singapore, where courts have developed relatively clear frameworks. By analyzing these jurisdictions, the article identifies lessons that could enhance Vietnam’s legal framework, particularly in aligning domestic regulations with international standards and limiting the scope of the public policy exception to prevent misuse. The article begins by introducing the topic and outlining the research objectives. It then provides a comprehensive examination of the laws and regulations of both France and Singapore regarding the recognition and enforcement of foreign arbitral awards, focusing on their respective approaches to public policy in arbitration. Finally, Section IV analyzes Vietnam’s current legal framework, offering insights and recommendations drawn from the experiences of France and Singapore to enhance Vietnam’s approach to international arbitration. The article proposes reform measures to align Vietnam’s enforcement framework with global arbitration norms to bolster legal certainty for foreign investors and promote Vietnam as an arbitration-friendly jurisdiction
