Development in the world of new media – an outline of the issues
Today’s children, so-called Digital Natives (digital natives), in contrast to their parents and teachers, who are called Digital Immigrants (digital immigrants), live in the world of media. Their childhood is strongly related to the TV. Afterwards they enter the world of the Internet, computer games, mobile phones. The tools that are in use are in their major part shaped by a man so the involvement of the younger generation in the world of the media has significant impact on the process of education. The article discusses the impact of the media on the formation of two types of intelligence — the cognitive and the emotional ones, that are most strongly associated with education. These effects have both the cultural and the neuronal level. The paper presents the process of education in the world dominated by media as a situation that educators are supposed to deal with, and takes into account the need to implement education for rational and responsible use of the media
The authors of Commission of National Education textbooks : attempt to outline a group portrait
The main aim of the article is an attempt to make a group portrait of the authors of
The Commission of National Education textbooks, which were published under the
auspices of the Society of Elementary Books. Among them are both representatives of the
Piarists and Jesuits, clergymen, and lay authors. In their biographies one can find many
common elements which are characteristic for the Enlightenment. The text points at
such important issues from their lives as: educational paths, obtained education (together
with academic degrees), and main areas of professional activity. In addition, their interests,
academic achievements, as well as journalistic, social, and patriotic activity were also taken
into consideration

Wpływ studiów licencjackich z historii na kształtowanie świadomości historycznej studentów
Uniwersytet Pedagogiczny im. Komisji Edukacji Narodowej w Krakowie. Wydział Humanistyczny. Instytut Historii. Promotor: Prof. dr hab. Marek Wilczyński.Przedmiotem dociekań pracy była świadomość historyczna, a podmiotem obserwacyjnym studenci historii I stopnia czterech uczelni: Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego, Uniwersytetu Papieskiego imienia Jana Pawła II, Uniwersytetu Śląskiego w Katowicach i Uniwersytetu Pedagogicznego w Krakowie.
Dwa pierwsze dotyczą świadomości historycznej i reform szkolnictwa i zostały oparte o literaturę przedmiotu. Trzy ostatnie szczegółowo opisują badania i wyniki oraz ich interpretacje jakościową i ilościową.The subject of the PhD dissertation was the students’ history awareness, while the observed objects were the BA students of history faculty at four universities, i.e. the Jagiellonian University, the Pontifical University of John Paul II, the Silesian University in Katowice, and the Pedagogical University in Krakow. The research goal was to capture contemporary landscape of student’s history consciousness, underlining the most determinative changes in that matter, and finally to define if the reform of 1st level of university studies (BA) could be in position to build and permanently reconstruct that awareness. For the dissertation needs empirical tests were conducted.
The survey shown to students was consisting of five parts that were covering different epochs (ages) in history, i.e. the ancient history, the medieval ages, the modem age, the XIX century, the XX century and the widely considered contemporary history. Each part was constructed with five fixed tasks: to build own canon of most important characters of the epoch, to segregate the causes and consequences of the historical events, evaluation of the historical characters that were considered controversial from histological perspective, to underline most important example of historical event, and then the survey was consisting two control point questions (directly relating to surveyed students in terms of their knowledge in their economic history and history of culture and art).
The diagnostical test was run at the beginning of first year of studies and repeated at the end of third year of study. The research allowed to picture the changes of the historical awareness determined by the studies at the history faculty. In the PhD dissertation it was proved that the BA studies have the influence on changing the history awareness of students. The awareness based on academic prerequisite is disclaiming the common perception and imagination. The surveyed students are widely appreciating the influence of economy on civilization growth, and they evaluate with less radicalism the historical events. The research allowed to distinguish from awareness so called “living history”.
The PhD dissertation from formal perspective is build up from five chapters. Two first chapters are relating to history awareness and education system reform, they are based on the subject matter literature. Three last chapters are threating with details the research matter and results, together with quality and quantity interpretation

Why do we need Joseph Tischner’s labour philosophy today?
Father Józef Tischner belongs to the small group of original creators of Christian labour philosophy. Above all he
was interesting in human labour in ethical, not economical or political aspect. For him it was a matter of human
communication and co-operation, and simultaneously professional job ought to be as a chance for personal human
development. Tischner perceived labour value from the side of human subject rather than from the side of objective
labour results. It should arise from judicious interpersonal communication. On the contrary human labour can be
apparent, when it is connected with worker exploitation or mistaken thinking about labour sense. Any illustration of
the first understanding can one meet in capitalist system, for this second it is easy to find a good example in so
called “real socialism” in Poland before 1989. But we can speak of the third understanding, not mentioned by Joseph
Tischner. There are no possibilities for a certain kind of people to work, because they belong to continuously
increasing margin of citizens, which can be called (Ralph Dahrendorf expression) as “socially unnecessary” people.
There is no job for them, because their talents, gifts, skills, trained professions do not find interesting of
employers in contemporary globalized world. Big corporations, having huge capital predominance in comparison to
small business, are predisposed to mass production and they need standard workers. Persons favoured with unique
qualifications do not find employment, because they are not able to win to employers considerable profits. In that
world diversified job offer number is still reducing, because for economical and fincial decision-makers personal
development of worker is not essential.
Tischner’s thought is relevant in the similar way like the Catholic social teaching. If Christianity were eliminated
entirely from the contemporary world, Tischner’s conception would be cancelled also. Then such concepts like: human
dignity, personal subjectivity, conscience, ethically understood solidarity, common good, sense and validity of
labour would become empty words only, and then such a dismissing the truth on human reality it would be brought to a
complete human destruction. If it is not come, Tischner labour philosophy will be taken into account seriously as a
good point of view for further reflections, aiming to regain lost subjectivity of working man
