Molecular dynamics study of instability behavior of single-crystal silicon under uniaxial tension using Terso_ potential

application/pdfInstability behavior of single-crystal silicon under tensile deformation has been investigated by molecular-dynamics simulations based on Terso_-type interatomic potential for the two proposed potential parameters. From the stress-strain curves obtained from the simulations, it is con_rmed that the maximum tensile stress decreases with increasing temperature for both parameters. However, there are signi_cant di_erences in the behavior after the stress release depending on the parameter type, indicating that defects such as dislocations or voids are formed di_erently.departmental bulletin pape

    A SEISMICRESPONSE OF FRAME & COLUMN-BASE\nFOR LOW-RISE STEEL STRUCTURE WITH EXPOSED COLUMN-BASE\npart 5 _ Plastic rotation of column-base

application/pdfRotation of exposed column-base was important for seismic performance discussed in steel structure, and it value obtained from structural performance of 1st layer member, and story drift angle of 1st layer. Moreover, rotation of exposed column-base was affected by column axial force. Therefore, If each column position, column axial force differ, rotation of exposed column-base also differ. In this paper, derive relation of rotation of exposed column-base and story drift angle. The following conclusions were drawn. 1. Explicit function & correlation curve of shown relation of rotation of exposed column-base and story drift angle. 2.Simplified formula shown for maximum rotation of column-base lower than story drift angle.departmental bulletin pape

Gentle Lies :\nAudience Response to a Lie in Dear Evan Hansen

application/pdfLies may be deemed as undesirable in any complex situation. Thus, theatre audiences may not be able to understand the act of lying in a drama. The Broadway musical drama, Dear Evan Hansen (2016) is themed on a small lie that leads to lies that are unfortunately published on social media. This paper aims to examine the audience reception of Dear Evan Hansen by gauging their responses to the lie told by the teenager, Evan Hansen in the film version (2021). Initially, we examine differences between the stage and the film version, indicating certain contradictions in the film’s mise-en-sc_ne based on the director’s interpretation of Evan as ‘a very lonely sympathetic kid’. Subsequently, we scrutinise the voices of university students majoring in technology and engineering to discuss whether the film’s audiences empathetically interpret Evan’s lie despite such contradictions.departmental bulletin pape

A Study on Advanced Technologies of Disaster Prevention and Disaster Reduction of Masonry Historical Construction\n—Estimation of Dynamic Characteristics and The Structural Health Monitoring System—

application/pdfThe aim of this paper is to monitor the dynamic characteristics of masonry historical constructions by Structural Health Monitoring System (SHM). Firstly, dynamic behavior of masonry historical building has been examined by microtremor observation. Natural frequencies and damping ratios for lower modes are also estimated by microtremor tests. Secondly, and most important, dynamic monitoring system has been installed on the buildings. From the recorded structural response under ambient excitation and to earthquakes, the dynamic characteristics of the buildings are identified using Operational Modal Analysis techniques. Further interesting aspect is the managing of such data with genetic algorithm to identify the damage and the variation of the engineering constants. By digitizing the state of the building with a measuring instrument, it is possible to easily and quickly make judgments on repair and renovation.departmental bulletin pape

Students’ Emotional Changes and Educational Effects in Clinical Practice

application/pdfDepartment of Clinical Engineering, Faculty of Life Science, Hiroshima Institute of Technology trains students to become clinical engineer. In order to become a clinical engineer, students are required to take clinical practice courses. Clinical practice conducted at medical facilities is strictly regulated by law and regulations in terms of content, time, etc., and is physically and emotionally taxing for students. In this study, we conducted a questionnaire survey before and after the clinical practice to examine the emotional changes and educational effects. The results suggest that the clinical practice resulted in an emotional change, as well as a clearer impression of clinical engineers and a change in their motivational behavior.departmental bulletin pape

An Investigative Research on the E_ciency of Shelter Management Using Digital Technology During a Large-Scale Disaster

application/pdfWith the increase in natural disasters in recent years, the number of times shelters have been opened is increasing. In addition, especially in the event of a large-scale disaster, the evacuation period will be prolonged, which will increase the burden on shelter management sta_. This study proposes a simple and inexpensive information system that uses digital technology to improve the e_ciency of shelter operations during large-scale disasters. As a _rst step, the system uses Radio Frequency Identi_cation (RFID) tags to streamline the work of evacuees’ roll call and food distribution. As a result of introducing the proposed system to an evacuation drill, it was demonstrated that the execution speed of roll call and food distribution was improved by about three times. In addition, the results of a questionnaire survey of evacuation drill participants showed that more than 90% of the participants realized the effectiveness of the proposed system.departmental bulletin pape

The strong motion measurement system and data processing method for the lecture building Nexus21 of Hiroshima Institute of Technology

application/pdfThis research aims to provide useful information for seismic motion analysis and seismic design of structures. Data processing system is developed to get acceleration records at the lecture building Nexus21 of Hiroshima Institute of Technology (HIT) due to a strong earthquake, such as the Nankai Trough earthquake, which is feared to occur in the near future. The obtained results are as follows. (1) A list of the records of felt earthquakes for the last 10 years at HIT is summarized. (2) A processing software is created to select the three functions of “waveform display,” “spectrum display,” and “3D display”. (3) “Waveform display” and “3D display” show the acceleration, and the velocity / displacement calculated by the integration of the time history. (4) In “spectrum display”, the analysis results of the Fourier spectrum of acceleration, velocity, and displacement, in each floor and direction are presented and can be output as text. (5) Using the acceleration on the first floor of the lecture building due to the 2016 Kumamoto earthquake as an input, we attempted to verify the building response by vibration analysis.departmental bulletin pape
