    Learning Analytics: The Number of Admissible Successes and the Number of Actual Successes in the LCT

    application/pdfTo make increase the attendance rate to the FPC (follow-up program class), we have designed the admissible success to the LCT (learning check testing) which works as the compensation to the failed LCT result such that the number of admissible successes to the LCT equals to the number of successful LCT and the number of attendance to the FPC. When the number of admissible LCT becomes lower than the pre-specified number, say ten times, students may lose the chance to take the final examination. Thus, this number and the admissible LCT might be an incentive to attend the FPC and to make effort to tackle the mathematical exercises. We have found that the rate of the total number of failed times to the LCT to the total number of LCT is about 5%, and thus, ten out of fifteen (total number of lecture times) may be the critical number for the failure to the final examination.departmental bulletin pape

    Seismic Performance of Retrofitted RC Column with Steel Plates and FRP Sheet

    application/pdfThis paper presents the seismic performance of RC columns retrofitted with steel plates and FRP sheet. The test columns were subjected to cyclic lateral loads under lateral displacement control. The column section was 300 mm×400 m, and the shear span was 1200 mm. The test columns were designed to replicate existing columns, of which the ratio of the shear strength to the flexural strength was 0.69.The failure mode of the column without retrofitting was not the shear failure, but the bond slippage failure. The maximum shear strength of the retrofitted columns had the 1.4~1.5 times that of the column without retrofitting. The increased strength of the retrofitted column could be estimated by accumulating the strength of the added column to that of the original column.departmental bulletin pape

    Load-carrying capacity of timber joints using Glass-Fiber Reinforced Plastics and evaluation to strengthen timber earthquake-resisting walls

    application/pdfThis study aims to investigate load-deformation capacity of wooden frame walls including with three sets of crossed diagonal timber members under earthquake, in order to use earthquake-resistant improvement of the existing wooden houses. The diagonal members like braces bear only axially compressive force and are expected to perform ductility. For reinforcement of tensile force, Glass Fiber Reinforced Plastics (GFRP) is used to resist in the structural frame. Two sets of experiments were conducted to investigate the strength of a glass fiber anchor for fixing a glass fiber sheet. One is column-to-beam connection test and the other is wooden frame wall test. For connection, 12 specimens were tested parametrically to check strength and variations due to construction work.     application/pdfThe purpose of this paper is to examine Koji Fujii’s view of architecture in his discourses about the tearoom. In doing so, the relationship of “design” and “equipment” he catches will be clarified. Fujii considers “design” as the “atmosphere” given by “tradition”. On the other hand, he considers “equipment” as inevitable comfort which should be improved by “science”. Whilst these two are antithetical, Fujii tries to prove “atmosphere” by “science”.     Experimental study on stiffening and strengthening for H-shaped steel beam using laminated carbon-fiber-reinforced-plastic-plates

    application/pdfThis paper reports the results of bending tests conducted on a Narrow H-shaped steel beam before and after rehabilitation using CFRP plates. These results show enhanced flexural rigidity and the moment carrying capacity of the beam due to bonding CFRP plate.     application/pdfフランスの中学校第4学習期が用いる「生命と地球の科学」の教科書について,最新の学習指導要領に基づいて編集された7冊の教科書を分析した。学習指導要領上,生命科学分野と地球科学分野の大単元構成比は2:1であるが,教科書の頁数では平均的には7:3であり,生命科学分野により比重があることが窺えたが,生命科学分野の大単元の一つ「人体と健康」の内容は,日本では保健体育や家庭分野で扱う内容も扱われている。検定が無い自由な編集であるにもかかわらず,学習のコアとなる小単元,まとめ頁,演習問題の配置や構成について教科書間に強い類似性があり,フランスにおいて求められる一定の形があることが窺えた。また,小単元,演習問題には必ずコンピテンスが明示されており,更には「学び方を学ぶ」的な内容や共通基礎との対応が随所に確認できた。その他,改革の中で行程,横断的実践的学習,個別学習支援など教科での取り扱いや連携が求められることへの対応については,扱いにばらつきが見られた。教科の教科書として諸々の要求をどのように扱い具体化していくのか模索の中にあるともいえるが,ここから日本への示唆を引き出した。departmental bulletin pape

    Numerical Study on Dynamic Behavior of Glass Screen System of Law-rise Steel Frame Building Based on Seismic Observation Records

    application/pdfSerious damage to nonstructural elements such as glass and ceiling materials was reported after the 2011 earthquake off the Pacific coast of Tohoku. The purpose of this report is to describe the development of the technical references for structural performance verification by targeting nonstructural components of buildings which are damaged by earthquakes, the field that have not been explored so much in past studies. Strong-motion earthquake measurement was conducted using a low-rise steel-frame building to examine the vibration characteristics of a building that could generate force on the glass screens. Buildings with structural glass walls responded differently from conventional buildings. Because there is insufficient experimental data to draw firm conclusions, this study carried out a simulation analysis in an attempt to measure the effect of structural glass walls on damage to nonstructural elements.departmental bulletin pape
