Analysis of growth factors contained in unused fish residues.

application/pdfIn order to search for new growth-related factors in fish, we focused on unused fish residues. When fish soluble, one of the unused fish residues, was fed to medaka, the growth of the medaka was promoted. After that, fish soluble(FS)was purified and a feeding experiment was conducted, and the growth was also promoted. To identify the growth-promoting substances, metabolome analysis was performed and three candidate substances contained in FS, terephthalic acid, glycerol, and harman, were selected. To analyze the mechanism of action of these candidate substances on growth, the candidate substances were administered to zebrafish at two doses, 1μM and 100μM. As a result, all of the candidate substances promoted growth. Real-time PCR analysis revealed that terephthalic acid, especially 1μM and 100μM, activated the secretion of digestive enzymes secreted from the small intestine, respectively. These results suggested that terephthalic acid is involved in growth promotion.departmental bulletin pape

The required column-to-beam strength ratio for achieving beam-yielding behavior focused on the first-layer stiffness ratio

application/pdfIn this paper, we discuss the required column-to-beam strength ratio, taking into account the distribution of layer stiffness. Generally, the required column-to-beam strength ratio is determined considering factors such as bidirectional loading on the structural framework and assuming a horizontal input at a 45-degree angle. However, when the stiffness ratio is 0.6 or higher, the influence of layer stiffness is not taken into account. On the other hand, in this paper, through time history response analysis results of a planar framework, we confirm that even when the stiffness ratio satisfies 0.6 or higher, the required column-to-beam strength ratio varies depending on the stiffness distribution. Additionally, we propose an approximate formula for the required column-to-beam strength ratio that takes this effect into consideration.departmental bulletin pape

EdTech Trends and Prospects at the BETT Asia2024 Conference

application/pdfThis year’s BETT Asia 2024 returned to Malaysia after two years. The Leadership Summit featured more topics overall, with 13 focused on AI. Like Japan, other Asian countries shared similar expectations and challenges regarding generative AI in education, with high interest in literacy education and self-organized learning. The exhibition had 45 displays, three fewer than last year. South Korean companies continued to participate in STEAM and programming education, with one exhibitor from Greece and Singapore. A new Danish exhibitor showcased a product that converts robot control programs between block programming and Python. Many learning data management systems with enhanced dashboard functions for assessment were also displayed. Overall, while AI was a prominent topic, few products specifically utilized AI, focusing mainly on learning data analysis and language learning. In STEAM and programming education, there were new entrants but no major innovations.departmental bulletin pape

Ueji's Garden Composition and Generation of Landscape in the Nanzenji Area

application/pdfThe purpose of this paper is to compare the pond gardens in the Nanzenji area where Ueji (Ogawa Jihei VII) is said to have been involved in the creation of gardens, and to clarify the trends in the composition of each garden and what kind of scenery is being created in the Nanzenji area. It was confirmed that Ueji's works in the Nanzenji area during his establishment period were mostly located south of Nanzenji and were mainly composed of borrowed scenery from the mountains south of Nanzenji, while in the maturation period, on the contrary, they were mainly composed of the mountains north of Nanzenji. In most of the gardens in the Nanzenji area that Ueji created, he formed scenery with continuity because he used the Higashiyama Mountains as a borrowed scenery, and it can be seen that the overlapping of the gardens created scenery with depth in various directions.departmental bulletin pape

Measurements of the Meissner Effect in Superconducting Niobium and Lead Using the AC Complex Susceptibility Technique

application/pdfTo improve our measurement system for detecting the Meissner effect, we designed a sample holder made of oxygen-free copper. The Meissner effect of Nb and Pb was confirmed, with Tc values showing good agreement with the nominal values in both cases. When the sweep rate was 0.1 K/min, it was possible to measure the Meissner effect with sufficient accuracy during both heating and cooling processes. Thus, a measurement system for studying the magnetic properties of various superconducting samples has been successfully established in our group.departmental bulletin pape

structural performance for parallel damping system by means of shear panel damper

application/pdfMany seismic damping systems using steel dampers have been proposed and used. Shear panels, which are steel dampers, are installed through braces, stud, or wall-like supports. There is a oneway brace type for the installation of braces & shear panels, but the installation angle of the brace is 45°, and the brace has the best performance as a brace. It is not practical to install a damper with braces of 45°and shear panels in the span realized by steel structure. Therefore, we will consider a new installation method of the shear panel that takes into account the performance of the brace, and further improve the structural performance of the conventional damper.departmental bulletin pape

Research of driver model by the robust index

application/pdfBeing many proposals for driver models in the previous research interpreted in various theory(torque control, steering angular velocity control, steering angle control, etc.)for research purposes. Generally, steering angle control has been widely used because the control input to the vehicle model(Plant model)is the steering angle. Additionally, nonlinear elements that cannot be formulated and dead time as a driver model are treated as remnants that cannot be explained by linear control theory. Furthermore, regarding the dead time of the driver model, in a driver model configured on the biomimetics of bat flight maneuver, the dead time is actively inserted into the control law, and is interpreted as a control element for determining the timing of course following. The motivation for this research was the idea that the concept of remnant can be interpreted as a disturbance on broaddefinition in linear robust control(uncertainty that cannot be modeled by linear theory, for example, environmental fluctuations, modeling estimation errors, control input by nonlinearity of the actuator, observation noise, and fluctuations of the plant etc.). In this research, we define remnant as a steering input disturbance†(stimulus)and would report the results of verifying whether the concept of remnant is equivalent to broadly defined disturbance in robust control theory returning to a mixed sensitivity problem using sensitivity and complementary sensitivity of the closed loop configured by the Driver In the Loop, which is a design index of robust control performance, and would report the practicality of proposal diver model. †:In this research, the disturbance is not a general disturbance, as it functions as an override to the reference vehicle trajectory.departmental bulletin pape

Reconnaissance Report on Buildings Damage due to the Noto Peninsula Earthquake in 2024

application/pdfA number of structures was damaged in the Noto Peninsula Earthquake(Mw7.5)occurred on the first January 2024. The JMA seismic intensities of 7 were recorded in Shika and Wajima city near the epicenter. The number of totally collapsed buildings were 6410, and partially collapsed buildings exceeded 22000, due to the ground shaking, the liquefaction, the land slide and the Tunami. Authors investigated the most damaged area of the peninsula, as Nanao city, Anamizu, Wajima city and Suzu city at the end of January. This paper mainly discusses the damaged buildings; many of the collapsed buildings were the old wooden houses and many of the reinforced buildings were slightly damaged or no damage with a few exceptions. In the area subjected to severe liquefaction, the inclined RC buildings were found.departmental bulletin pape

Diplomacy and Poetry in Continental Europe:The Influence of Place in the Work of Thomas Wyatt

application/pdfThomas Wyatt, a prominent courtier and diplomat to Henry VIII of England, produced a significant body of poetry during his time in continental Europe. This paper focuses on these works, exploring how his personal experiences and humanistic values are intertwined within the cultural and social context of the 16th century. In the course of this discussion, I will first focus on Wyatt's descriptions of nature in his poems, pointing out that they go beyond the framework of imitation and reflect Wyatt's experiences and feelings in his diplomatic service. Moreover, Wyatt's conflicted feelings—nostalgia for England and a yearning for the intellectual and cultural richness of continental Europe—significantly shaped his creative output.departmental bulletin pape
