 Abstract
　Arsenic contamination of Toyohira River water is serious 
and lasting problem in Sapporo City, Hokkaido, Japan. The 
arsenic contamination in the river water seems to be directly 
related to Jyozankei hot spring water. Arsenic and other trace 
elements analyses in the Jyozankei hot spring and Toyohira 
River waters were performed by inductively coupled plasma-
mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). Arsenic concentration of the 
Jyozankei hot spring was from 3,040 to 3,850 µg/L. The arsenic 
concentration of the Toyohira River water at some distance 
above the hot spring area was from 1.38 to 5.01µg/L. On the 
other hand, The arsenic concentration of the Toyohira River 
water at some distance below the hot spring area was from 
57.2 to 288 µg/L. The arsenic contamination in the Toyohira 
River water is inferred to be mostly caused by a hot spring 
welling from basement in the river.

はじめに
現在， 飲料水のヒ素汚染は， アジアや南米を中心と
して多くの国々で問題となっている （例えば， アルゼン
チン， ボリビア， チリ， 中国， 台湾， タイ， モンゴル，
インド， バングラデシュなど） （Karim, 2000；山崎ほか，
2000 ； 吉村 ・ 赤井， 2003）．  これらの国では， ヒ素の
多量摂取による皮膚がん， 腎臓がん， 肺がん， 膀胱
がん， 角化症や過度の色素沈着など様々な疾病が報
告されている （Smith et al., 2000 ； Karim, 2000）．
日本国内においても， 自然由来のヒ素汚染は多数し
られている． それらのうち， 温泉水の流入 ・ 火山性噴
気・鉱山廃水・鉱床や熱水変質岩の風化などによって，
周辺地域の地下水， 河川水や土壌がヒ素汚染を受け
る事例が多数を占めている （たとえば， 浦上， 1982 ；
殿界ほか， 1996 ； 益田ほか， 1999 ； 益田， 2000 ； 久
保田ほか， 2000, 2001 ； 栗屋ほか， 2002 ； 辰巳ほか，
2002a， b ； 富岡ほか， 2005 ； 木田川， 2006 ； など）．  
さて， 北海道札幌市を流れる豊平川は， 流域面積
904.8km2， 流路延長 72.5km の一級河川で， 約 200
万人の人口を抱える札幌市の水道水源の約 98% をま
かなう重要な水系である． その源流は小漁岳（1,235m）
であり， 豊平峡ダム， 定山渓温泉街および札幌市街を
経て， 石狩川へと注いでいる．
定山渓温泉は， 豊平川の水道水取水口よりも上流
部に位置し， 以前から温泉水に由来するヒ素が問題
となっている． その汚染レベルは， 上水取水地点に
おいても水道水質基準を上回っている （辰巳ほか，
2002a ； 辰巳ほか， 2005）． その主たる汚染源は， 温
泉街のホテル ・ 旅館からの温泉排水， あるいは河床
の岩盤から湧出する温泉水であると考えられている． ま

た， 豊平川流域やダム湖底質中のシルト・粘土に吸着・
沈積したヒ素が， 降雨時の底泥の巻上げなどによって，
豊平川下流部にまで広く流出することも確認されている
（辰巳ほか， 2002b）．
本研究では， 定山渓温泉周辺において， 源泉， 定
山渓温泉街のホテルの温泉排水および周辺の豊平川
におけるヒ素濃度を測定し， 豊平川のヒ素汚染の要因
について検討した．
試料採取と調整
分析用試料は札幌市豊平川上流部に位置する定山
渓温泉周辺で採水した． 採水地点は， 定山渓温泉街
下流部の T1， 源泉の T2 ならびに T3， 定山渓温泉街
内のホテルの温泉排水口の約 10 m 下流の T4， ホテ

ルの温泉排水の T5 ならびに T6， ホテルの温泉排水
口の上流約 15 m の T7， および定山渓温泉街上流部
の T8 ならびに T9 である． 採水時期は T1 および T2
では 2009 年 5 月， 7 月ならびに 10 月の 3 回， T3 で
は 5 月ならびに 10 月の 2 回， T4-T8 では 10 月， T9
では 5 月ならびに 7 月の 2 回である．
採水容器には， あらかじめ 5 %HNO3 で洗浄した
100 mL のポリエチレンボトルを用いた． これらを用い
て野外で採水する際には， 採水する水もしくは温泉で
容器を共洗いをした後， 試料を採取した． 持ち帰った
採水試料は， 清浄な実験室において孔サイズ 0.45 µm
のセルロース製メンブランフィルター （ミリポア社製） を
用いて懸濁物を濾過した． 濾過した試料に 61 %HNO3
（関東化学　電子工業用超高純度硝酸 1.38） を 0.5g と
10 ppm のロジウム ・ レニウム内標準液を 0.05g 添加し，
試料水で総重量を 10g に定量し， 硝酸濃度を 3% に
調整したものを分析溶液とした．

分析方法
採水した試料の化学分析は， 愛媛大学総合研究支
援センターに設置している高周波誘導結合質量分析装
置（ICP-MS）（バリアン社製　810/820-MS）を用いて行っ
た． 定量分析した元素はクロム，マンガン，コバルト，ニッ
ケル， 銅， 亜鉛， ヒ素， セレン， ルビジウム， ストロン
チウム， アンチモンおよび鉛の 12 元素である． ヒ素に
関しては， アルゴンガスに起因する干渉が予想される
ため， コリジョン ・ リアクション ・ インターフェース （CRI）
を用いて水素ガスによる干渉の除去を行った． 分析方
法は， 外部検量線法とロジウムによる内標準法を併用
した． 検量線用の標準試料には， パーキンエルマー
社の多元素標準溶液を用い， 検量線の分析確度を確
認するために NIST1643e 標準水試料をモニターとして
分析した．
分析結果  
今回の分析結果は採取時期ごとに Table 1 から 3 に
示した． これらの結果に基づくと， 定山渓温泉街の下
流側の豊平川における河川水のヒ素濃度は， T1 地点
では 5 月， 7 月および 10 月のすべての試料において，
環境基準値の 10 µg/L を大幅に超過している． 定山渓
温泉北東側， すなわち下流側の T1 地点では， 河川
水のヒ素濃度は 57.2-288 µg/L で， 融雪期の増水や短
期間の集中的な降雨などによって， 河川水のヒ素濃度
は大きく変動しているが， 河川水  の最も少ない 7 月で
最大となった． 一方， 定山渓温泉の上流部の T8 およ
び T9 地点における河川水のヒ素濃度は， T8 で 3.53 
µg/L， T9 で 1.38-3.95 µg/L と， すべて 5 µg/L 以下

北海道札幌市の定山渓温泉地域における温泉水および周辺の豊平川のヒ素濃度
で， 環境基準値を上回るヒ素濃度は検出されなかった
（Table 1, 2 および 3）．
今回， 採取した定山渓温泉源泉の温泉水は， ヒ素，
セレン， マンガンおよびアンチモンに関して， 環境基
準値もしくは水道水質基準値を超過していた． ヒ素に
関しては， すべての試料でその濃度が 3,000 µg/L を
超過し， その最大値は T2 地点で 3,670 µg/L， T3 地
点で 3,850 µg/L であった． セレンに関しては， 環境基
準値および水道水質基準値 （ともに 10 µg/L 以下），
マンガンに関しては水道水質基準値 （50 µg/L 以下），
そしてアンチモンに関しては， 水道管理目標値 （15 
µg/L 以下） を超過していた． 各元素の最大濃度は，
セレンが 101 µg/L， マンガンが 1,180 µg/L， およびア
ンチモンが 44.1 µg/L であった． また， 源泉のヒ素およ
び他の微量元素濃度の季節による変動は小さく， ほぼ
一定であることが明らかになった （Table 1, 2 および 3）．
　また， 定山渓温泉街内に位置するホテルから T5 およ
び T6 地点において直接排出されている温泉排水のヒ
素濃度は 1,910-1,930 µg/L であり， 温泉使用後のヒ素
濃度は源泉の約 50 ％程度であるものの， 依然としてヒ
素を高濃度に含む水が河川に排出されていることが明
らかとなった． しかしながら， このホテルの温泉排水口
の上流側約 15 m （T7） と下流側約 10 m （T4） の地
点で採取した河川水は， 上流側 （T7） では 3.96 µg/
L， 下流側 （T4） では 5.01 µg/L と， 下流側でわずか
なヒ素濃度の上昇が見られるものの， 温泉排水の混合

による有意なヒ素濃度の上昇は認められなかった（Table 
3）．
考  察
定山渓地域における豊平川の高ヒ素濃度の要因は，
同温泉街の上 ・ 下流における急激なヒ素濃度の変化
に基づくと， 定山渓温泉水がその主因であることは明
瞭である． ただし， その汚染源は， 少なくとも T4 地点
と T1 地点の間に位置していることになる． また， T4-T7
のヒ素濃度のデータに基づくと， ホテル ・ 旅館などが
使用した温泉排水は， 河川の水量および温泉排水の
水量ならびにヒ素濃度によるマテリアルバランスから考
えて， 河川水のヒ素濃度を急激に高めているとは考え
にくい． したがって， T4 地点および T8 地点の間の月
見橋および高山橋周辺の川底の岩盤から湧出する温
泉水 （浦上， 1982） が， 主たる汚染源であると考える
ことが妥当であろう． 今後は， より密な河川水の温度 ・
pH ・ ヒ素濃度測定に基づいて， 汚染源を特定すること
が必要であろう．
また， セレン， マンガンやアンチモンなど他の微量
元素の源泉と河川水との濃度比は， ヒ素のそれとは大
きくずれている． この結果は， これら重金属元素の起
源や形態の変遷， すなわち， 沈殿や底質との相互作
用など， を検討する上で極めて興味深い．

無農薬モモ園におけるアブラムシ天敵ヒラタアブの
インセクタリープラントとしてのソバの間作

Hover Flies of Aphid Enemy in Non-Pesticide Peach Orchard

Summary 
For fostering hover flies of aphid enemy, buckwheat was grown as an intercrop be-
tween rows of peach trees provided with non-pesticide management.  The peach 
trees were trained as a central leader and planted in a row system.  Buckwheat seeds 
were sown between the rows two times so that their flowering period was June（sum-
mer） and September/October（fall）.  Hover flies access buckwheat flowers for seeking 
honey and pollen.  Larvae of hover flies eat aphids on the peach leaves.  The average 
population density of hover flies in buckwheat plants was 3.4/m2 and 0.6/m2 in the 
summer and fall, respectively.  When the population density of larvae in the peach 
leaves was observed in the fall season, the average density was 0.49/leaf and 0.053/
cm2.  Thus buckwheat plants are beneficial for fostering hover flies of aphid enemy 
when planted as an insectary plant in non-pesticide peach orchards.
緒　　　　　言
　最近、農産物の安全性という観点から、天敵を利用した無農薬栽培や減農薬栽培の取り組みが行わ
れている。これに関連して近年、天敵へ花蜜、花粉や代替餌、隠れ家などを提供するインセクタリー
プラントを農耕地に配置し、天敵の保護、増強を行って、栽培する作物の害虫を防除をしようとする
研究が行われている11, 12, 14, 15, 16）。アブラムシの天敵にはテントウムシ類、アブラバチ類、クサカゲロ
ウ類、ショクガタマバエ類、ヒラタアブ類などがいる。ヒラタアブ類は１～３齢幼虫時代の７～10日
間に一日平均約30匹のアブラムシを捕食するとされている。しかし、成虫になると花粉、花蜜を摂食
するようになることが知られている。アブラムシの天敵としてのヒタラアブ類の研究がこれまでに数
多くなされている1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 13）。しかしながら、これまでの研究は果樹園外での調査が多く、
実際の果樹園での研究報告はほとんど見られない。本研究では、最近２年間全く無農薬散布とした列
植えの主幹形モモ園の列間にソバを播種し、ソバへ訪花するヒラタアブ成虫の個体密度を調査すると
共に、モモ葉に寄生しているアブラムシを餌としているヒラタアブ幼虫の個体密度を調べ、ソバがヒ
ラタアブのインセクタリープラントとして有効かどうかを調査した。

材料及び方法
　実験は2010年に愛媛大学農学部附属農場で行った。使用したモモ園（品種：日川白鳳）は、過去２
年間、完全無農薬とした。モモはいずれも共台の野生モモ台で主幹形に仕立て、列植えにしている。
施肥管理については、モモを植える前のぶどう園時代に毎年施用してきた肥料分があると思われたこ
と、また、モモの小樹化を目的とした実験を行ってきたので、ほぼ10年間、化学肥料は無施用で管理
してきた。園地は雑草草生とし、適宜、バロネス除草機で除草を行い、刈った雑草はモモの樹の周り
に敷き草とした。樹高はほぼ２ｍである。夏期開花用のソバとして、品種‘春のいぶき’を４月26日
にモモ園の列間（約２ｍ幅）の中央部に１列（幅0.3ｍ×長さ16ｍ）ずつ、計３列に播種した（第２
図　A）。播種前に、耕耘機で耕し、播種後、真砂土を薄く覆土しておいた。土が乾燥しないよう適
宜灌水をした。また、秋期開花用のソバとして、品種‘信濃１号’を同じ場所で、同様に７月30日に
２列（幅0.3ｍ×長さ16ｍ）に播種した。６月８日から６月21日の間と９月10日から10月26日の間に
ソバに飛来しているヒラタアブ類の成虫の個体数を計測した。夏期の計測は３列を３反復とし、秋期
の計測は一列を半分に分け、４反復として計測した。計測時刻は原則として午前８時半から９時の間
に行った。今回の調査では飛来しているヒラタアブ類の種類の同定は行わなかった。夏期には栽植し
ている日川白鳳にほとんどアブラムシの着生が見られず、幼虫密度の観察ができなかったので、秋期
には他所でアブラムシの着生しているモモ葉を摘み取り、調査園の新梢が伸長している日川白鳳の若
い葉にホッチキスを利用して取り付け（第２図　E）、新しい葉にアブラムシを着生させ、その葉に
ついてヒラタアブ類の幼虫密度を観察した。10月６日、10月11日、10月13日、10月23日にアブラムシ
の着生している葉にいるヒラタアブ類の幼虫の個体数を計測し、葉あたりの密度及びcm２あたりの
密度を計算した。ソバを植えている場所から、アブラムシの着生している樹までの直線距離も測った。
　
結果及び考察
　夏期におけるヒラタアブ成虫のソバの花への飛来密度の結果を第１図に示した。６月８日から６月
23日の計測期間中の密度は、1.7～5.9匹／ｍ２で、平均は3.4匹／ｍ２であった。無農薬にもかかわら
ず、本年度、夏期にモモ園内でのアブラムシの発生はほとんど見られなかった。
　秋期の調査について、ヒラタアブの成虫のソバへの飛来密度を第３図に示した。９月10日から10月
26日の間の成虫密度は0.1～1.3匹／ｍ２の範囲で、期間中の平均は0.6匹／ｍ２であった。夏期にアブ
ラムシの着生葉がほとんど見られなかったので、他所に栽植しているモモに樹に着生しているアブラ
ムシコロニーのある葉を、調査園のモモの新梢の先端の展開しつつある葉にホッチキスで取り付けて、
アブラムシ着生葉を増やすよう試みた（第２図　Ｅ）。取り付けた葉が萎れるにつれて、アブラムシ
は新しい葉に移動して容易に新たなコロニーを形成することが分かった。今後の調査に当たっては、
アブラムシコロニーが少ない場合にはこのような方法でコロニーを増やすことが有効であると思われ
た。幼虫密度の平均値はアブラムシコロニーのある葉一枚当たり平均0.49匹で、密度では平均0.053
匹／ cm2であった。
　アブラムシの密度とヒラタアブの幼虫の密度に関連して、Furuta・Sakamoto（1984）はカエデ類
に寄生するモミジニタイケアブラムシではヒラタアブ類の幼虫はアブラムシ密度の高い木で多く見ら
れたと報告している２）。また、水野・市岡（1996）は、一つのアブラムシコロニーに存在が確認され
るヒラタアブの幼虫は１匹または２匹であり、３匹以上存在するコロニーは非常に特殊な場合のみで

あると述べている９）。いっぽう、伊藤・巌（1977）は350×350×180cmの網室内にホソヒラタアブの
雌成虫６匹と雄成虫２匹を放餌して、モモアカアブラムシを着生させた鉢植えキャベツの葉に産み付
けられた産卵数を調査している３）。アブラムシの密度が高いほど、葉１枚当たりの産卵数は多くなり、
葉一枚当たりのアブラムシの平均密度が167.3では産卵数７個と報告し、アブラムシ100匹当たりの産
卵数はアブラムシ密度が高くなるにつれて減少するとしている。
　ソバが植わっている場所とヒラタアブ幼虫が着生しているモモの葉までの距離とヒラタアブの幼虫
密度との間には明確な関係は見られなかった。一匹のヒラタアブの行動範囲がどれくらいなのか調査
する必要があると思われる。
　小野・城所（2007）はダイズに麦類をリビングマルチのバンカープラントとした時、６月下旬から
７月上旬にかけて、リビングマルチ区では無処理区に比べてダイズにおけるヒラタアブの幼虫及び蛹
の密度が高くなったと報告している11）。彼らの研究は、麦類とダイズの双方で優占する異なる種類の
アブラムシ類を捕食することを利用したもので、ジャガイモヒゲナガアブラムシの密度を抑制する効
果が期待できるとしている。
　ヒラタアブ類をアブラムシの天敵として利用する方法としては、ヒラタアブ類が一般に多種のアブ
ラムシを捕食する広食性であることを利用して、対象作物に着生するアブラムシとは異なる種のアブ
ラムシの着生する植物をインセクタリープラントとしてヒラタアブの幼虫の餌場とする方法と本研究
のように成虫が花粉・花蜜を利用する植物をインセクタリープラントして利用する方法が考えられる。
ソバは後者の植物として有効と考えられる。この点に関連して、大野（2009）もインセクタリープラ
ントとしてソバの有効性を指摘している12）。
　本研究の調査中に、アブラムシの天敵であるクサカゲロウ類やアブラバチ類やショクガタマバエに
よるアブラムシの捕食も観察されたので、無農薬モモ園ではヒラアタアブだけではなくこれらの天敵
も働いてアブラムシの発生密度を抑えている可能性が考えられる。

　無農薬で栽培している列植え主幹形モモ園の列間にソバを間作し、ソバの花蜜・花粉を求めて飛来
するアブラムシの天敵ヒラタアブ類を涵養するのに有効かどうかを調査した。ソバは開花期が６月（夏
期）と９～10月（秋期）となるようにモモの列間を耕耘して播種をした。ソバの花に飛来するヒラタ
アブの成虫密度は秋期に比べて夏期で多かった。秋期にモモの葉のアブラムシコロニーに寄生するヒ
ラタアブ類の幼虫密度を調査したところ、モモ葉一枚当たり0.49匹、cm２当たり0.053匹であった。
無農薬モモ園で、モモの生育の盛んな夏期に、アブラムシの天敵ヒラタアブ類を涵養するためのイン
セクタリープラントとしてソバを列間に間作することは有意義だと考えられた。

Introduction 
It is well established that good mental health is a 
basic factor for a person to experience enjoyment in 
their life.  Maintaining good mental health involves 
the following three abilities:  (1) honestly expressing 
individual feelings (psychological well being); (2) 
appropriate analysis of situations and being able to 
cope with everyday problems  (intellectual well being); 
and (3) building good relationships with others (social 
well being).  
In particular, recent studies report that it is 
also important for a person to find out the aim and 
significance of their own life and that they be able to 
choose their own life (human well being).  Accordingly 
mental health has a major impact on quality of life. 
Some reports1-3) indicate that there are multiple 
factors which influence mental health, including 
(1) individual disposition and ability; (2) physical 
condition; (3) socio-economic conditions such as 
dwelling, place of work, relationships with others etc. 
In particular, individual social well being such as life 
satisfaction is reported to be strongly related to the 
maintenance of good mental health. 
Recent studies4-9) suggest that psychological factors 
may influence several cardio-vascular disorders such 
as ischemic heart disease and hypertension.  Health 
management consists of the following traditional 
elements (1)  adequate exercise;  (2)  balanced 
nutritional intake; (3) rest, plus two more recently 
identified factors (4) dental health and (5) mental 
health. 
It  is  suggested that smoking and frequent 
consumption of alcohol are not simply isolated 
dependencies but have come to be regarded as 
two examples of symptoms of the broad mental 
disorder covered by the term addiction, which also 
encompasses stalking, gambling and overeating. 
Furthermore, having a sufficient social environment 
and the opportunity for social activity plays an 
essential role in maintaining a healthy mind.  
The first objective of this survey was to inquire into 
the residents' current well-being, mental health and 
the social support resources in Toon City.  The second 
objective of the survey was to provide the foundation 
for planning new health promotion activities involving 
social supports focusing on improving life satisfaction 
in Toon City. 
Methods
Ethical  considerations in relation to the Act on the 
Protection of Personal Information. 
(1) Disclosure of information from the Toon City

Basic Resident Register and access to this 
information as digital data stored on portable 
media. 
Our study received permission from Ehime 
University's Ethical Committee of Etiology to access 
the electronically stored personal information in 
the Basic Resident Register maintained by the local 
government of Toon City. 
The second author (Kanako Yamauchi) applied to 
the local government of To-on City for permission 
to access electronically stored personal information 
in the Basic Resident Register maintained by the 
local government of Toon City for the purpose of 
delivering our questionnaire based on the dual 
requirements that the researcher, Kanako Yamauchi, 
was (1) the recipient of a Grant-in-Aid for Scientific 
Research (Category C) from the Japan Society for 
the Promotion of Science (Project number 21590696, 
Kanako Yamauchi, research period 2009 to 2013, 
“Factors affecting the mental health, ADL and QOL 
of elderly residents-a cohort study over a 13 year 
period.” and (2) had Research Permission from Ehime 
University's Ethical Committee of Etiology.
(2) Study Design and Participants
We selected at random 2000 people between 
the ages of 20 and 64, and provided them with a 
questionnaire and a self-addressed envelope. 
Results
(1) Respondent rate of questionnaire
Table 1 shows a respondent rate of our survey.  Men 
comprised 37.8 percent (453/1200) and women 47.6 
percent (381/800) of the Toon survey's respondents 
–which classified sex-and age-group.

(2) Demographic characteristics
Table2 shows that respondents' family members 
who live together in the same household. 
We carried out a questionnaire based survey into 
trends in family structure in Toon City.

(3) Life satisfaction 
We calculated individual life satisfaction based on 
the Life Satisfaction K items developed by Koyano et 
al10). 
Figure 1 shows the average value of life satisfaction K 
according to sex and age.

Approximately 60 percent of men and 70 percent of 
women have various kinds of social support resources 
in the form of family members they live with. If we 
look at the figures which separate psychological 
assistance and practical assistance it shows that 
men and women receive a great deal of psychological 
assistance from family members.
Discussion
It is well known that there is a close relationship 
between individual life satisfaction and social 
support-which also related to stress. The influence 
stress has on an individual is alleviated by support

structures such as spouse, family members, friends, 
place of work and neighborhood. Accordingly, 
although it is important for individuals to obtain the 
understanding and cooperation of those around them, 
local government can also play an important role in 
managing the social support systems which answer 
the needs of people suffering from stress. When the 
amount of stress can be kept within manageable 
limits, individuals can avoid the worst effects of 
stress.  
For men, the average value of life satisfaction K 
increases with age, peaking in their fifties. However, 
the value K begins decreasing between the ages of 60 
and 64, returning to the same levels as men in their 
twenties. 
It is our view that as men in their twenties have 
only just started work they will encounter a number 
of unfamiliar circumstances. In their thirties and 
forties men have families and have achieved a level 
of stability in their jobs, and as a result their level of 
life satisfaction K increases. A large number of men 
in their fifties have achieved a level of success and 
social status however between 60 and 64 years old, as 
a result of retirement, men's level of life satisfaction 
K drops. 
In contrast to men, women's life satisfaction K 
peaks during their twenties, and then the average 
value decreases with age. Between the ages of 20 
and 50 the average value of life satisfaction K for 
women is higher than that of men, however it is 
notable that the level of life satisfaction K for men 
increases during their fifties whilst for women the 
level drops suddenly. It is believed that the reason for 
this difference is that men enjoy a rewarding social 
position in their fifties, while women face menopause 
and the associated menopausal syndromes. 　
At any event, it is clear that the value of life 
satisfaction K is low for both men and women between 
the ages of 60 and 64. 
We defined the concept of social support to consist 
of both psychological and practical assistance.
Respondents in their twenties who have just entered 
the workforce depend on family members, especially 
parents, not only for psychological support but 
also practical assistance. The percentage of social 
support received from friends is 30 percent or less. 
However, the percentage of psychological assistance 
is 50 percent for men, while it is 80 percent for 
women. Most women tend to receive a great deal of 
psychological assistance from friends. In other words, 
women get psychological assistance from friends 
rather than from family members.
Whereas women receive psychological assistance 
from friends as well as family members, men tend 
to depend only on family members for psychological 
support from.
Neither men nor women receive practical assistance 
from friends. Furthermore, the level of social support 
from friends tends to decrease with age, and the 
key to conducting health promotion to build up the 
concrete measure how public health nurses have 
the elderly to participate in the health and welfare 
services provided in To-on City 
Measurement of the level of life satisfaction K 
includes asking the following question “Do you look 
back on your life with a sense of satisfaction? ”
According to the theory of life-cycle described 
by Erickson11), the concept of integrity is highly 
important in the elderly, and people who maintain 
integrity are more likely to answer positively the 
question about looking back. People who do not 
maintain this sense of integrity are apt to respond to 
the question negatively, and have a low level of life 
satisfaction. There is a concern that a low level of life 
satisfaction in people in their sixties has a potential 
risk of depression and suicide, and that there is a need 
to shed light on the causes of decreasing levels of life 
satisfaction in the elderly so as to establish concrete 
intervention methods of preventing depression. 
To this end, local government should aim to

create less stressful socio-economic circumstances, 
occupational environments, urban environments, and 
residential environments in order to establish the 
social framework for a high quality of individual life 
satisfaction and social supports.
