Effects of Thought Processes on the Degree of Understanding of Dance Work
Get PDFapplication/pdfThe present experiment was carried out to examine the effects of thought processes on the degree of understanding of dance work．20 female undergraduate students，range from 18 to 22 years old，were employed as subjects．They were randomly assigned to two groups（skilled and unskilled group）with ten subjects in each group．Stimuli for the experiment were the two professionnally choreographed dance works（ “HARUNOUTA” and “IRADATI” ）．Subjects viewed a videotape sequence of two dance works once and immediately recalled each scene of the presented dance work with a correct order． After the reproduction of the two dance works，subjects were required to reply orally the following six points：（1）What thought did order of each scene determine？，（2）movement that was remaining an impression，（3）image of a dance work，（4）content of expression，（5）movement that shows content of expression，and（6）title of a dance work．The results obtained was as follows； 1）There was not a remarkable difference on the probability of recalling of the two dance works between the groups．However，the unskilled groups were relying on the memory of concrete movement in composing a work of dance．The skilled groups，on the other hand，composed a work of dance in consideration of the contextual structure of a work． 2）On the understanding of dance work，although the skilled groups could understand a dance work as a emotional meaning，the unskilled groups understood a dance work as a natural phenomena
