Creating Schools with Curricular Emphasis for Learning through Real Experience - Investigation on Curriculum for Comprehensive Learning -
application/pdfThe purpose of this study was to report the creating school for learning through real experience in "NISHIHONME" elementary school, in order to obtain three goals : (1) faculty of self-education, (2) developmental faculty of social skill, and (3) faculty of motivation through educational resources in community, and to investigate the curriculum development for comprehensive learning. The first feature on the curriculum was to carry out collaborative learning for different grades, outdoor learning for same grade, and astronomical observation for all grades. The second was to collaborate between school, household, and community supporting the curriculum. To identify an effect of the curriculum, we made pre- and post-surveys with several questionnaires. As the results, the pre-survey showed that the lst and 2nd grades would have the higher expectancy, but that the 5th and 6th would have the standard expectancy to be habituated to the curriculum. The post-survey showed that almost all students would be the interesting curriculum. The findings suggest that students would be motivated to the curriculum by real experience, self-educated by self-evaluated activity, and acquire social skill in different grades
Relation between types of student general attitudes on selecting classes and academic grades (1). - A classification of types of general attitudes on selecting classes -
application/pdfThe purposes of present study were to classify types of undergraduate student's attitudes on selecting classes and investigate relation between those types and academic grades. Undergraduate students (N=114) took part in this survey by completing a questionnaire. The main results were as follows : (1) Three factors were found about student's attitudes on selecting classes, that is, "Easiness of getting credits", "Excellence in contents of class", "Utility of the class". (2) The students were classified into 3 types based on attitudes on selecting classes by cluster analysis. These were students who prefer classes in which it is easy to get credits, students who prefer classes with good and useful contents, and students who have no significant orientations. (3) Among 3 types, there were no difference in examination score and academic grades. Finally, it was suggested that general student's attitudes on selecting classes might influence the active attitude in class, after all, those attitudes cause good grades

However strong stimulation may deprive him of concentration on his work. The most ideal input in the brain for this effect might be stimulation we are unaware of. While walking information from muscle receptors like muscle spindles is powerful but they do not disturb one's concentration. This might be the reason why the Aristotelian were able to philosophize better during their walking (peripateien) time

application/pdfA program that exploits Information Technology (IT) started over 10 years ago at Takamatsu Junior College/Takamatsu University. It started as a simple email exchange between students at Takamatsu Junior College in Kagawa Prefecture and Japan and students at Lyndon State College in Vermont, USA. It has developed into a project that uses IT to teach students at Takamatsu Junior College and Takamatsu University how to use the Internet and manipulate computers for international communication. It also makes use of computers to teach students how to read, write and conduct research as part of a course at both institutions. The program also makes use of the Internet as an evaluation and testing tool. This paper outlines the phases that this program has gone through over the years, and gives the theoretical background to explain why each part of it developed
