IMPACT OF ICT ON INSURANCE BROKING IN NIGERIA
Information Communication Technology is playing a vital role in insurance broking in the Nigerian insurance industry. This study examined the use of this technology in driving insurance broking in Nigeria. The main aim of the study is to access how modern IT like Insurtech and Fintech could be used in insurance broking operations in the country. The simple research design was adopted for the study with a total of 100 insurance brokers were randomly selected for the study. The analysis of the collected primary data showed that majority of the respondents believed that the level of information communication technology awareness among insurance broking firms in Lagos State was low and as such there was low level of acceptance of information communication technology among board members of some insurance broking firms in Lagos State. The analysed data also showed that there was significant relationship between the adoption of information communication technology awareness and efficiency of insurance broking in Lagos State
NIGERIA'S PUBLIC SECTOR PERFORMANCE AUDIT EFFECTIVENESS: A THEORETICAL APPROACH
Over the past few decades, "value for money" audits also referred to as performance audits have grown in popularity in the public sector. This article investigates the efficiency of performance audits in the Nigerian public sector. It makes an effort to review the numerous writings of work done on the topic by some authors. The article specifically looks at the Nigerian public sector, its governance, and the ideas of performance audit, efficacy of performance audit, and public sector. The paper used a qualitative research design. It was noted that earlier research on the efficacy of performance audit had been conducted in various nations. Studies from Nigeria concentrated on performance auditing as a means of ensuring public sector accountability, its metrics, and the function of the Supreme Audit Institution. They also examined the relationship between performance auditing and the effectiveness of the public sector's budget. However, this study revealed that the Nigerian public sector is plagued by a number of issues that call into doubt the efficiency of performance auditing. In order to increase the efficacy of performance audits in the Nigerian public sector, the paper provided certain recommendations that, if followed by the government, would improve performance audit effectiveness in the sector
MEDIATING ROLE OF EMPLOYEE WORK ENGAGEMENT ON HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT PRACTICE AND EMPLOYEE PERFORMANCE: A CONCEPTUAL STUDY
The aim of the study is to propose a model for examining the relationship between Human Resource Management (HRM) practices and the performance of Employee with employee work engagement as a mediator in public Hospitals in Niger State, Nigeria. The current research utilises existing literature about the major concepts in the study, such as employee engagement at work, human resource management practice as well as employee performance. In line with the current literature, it was indicated that human resource management practices in the form of selection and recruitment, reward system, training and development, staff welfare and human resource planning have significant impacts on Employee work engagement and employee performance. The literature review shows a potential mediation of work engagement on the relationship between human resource practice as well as employee performance. In line with the preceding, the paper recommends that an empirical investigation should be undertaken on the effect of HRM practice on employee performance through the mediating effect of work engagement in public hospitals in Niger State, Nigeria
MEDIATING ROLE OF BUSINESS NETWORKING TIES IN THE LINK BETWEEN ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND POVERTY REDUCTION
Extant literature reveals entrepreneurship plays vital role in reducing poverty. However, there seems to be no explanation as to how entrepreneurship brings about poverty reduction. Therefore, this study examines the mechanism through which entrepreneurship reduces poverty. The study perceived business networking ties as a mechanism through which entrepreneurship may reduce poverty. To achieve this, the study utilizes data from 226 entrepreneurs in the entertainment industry operating in north-west, Nigeria. The data was obtained via a self-administered questionnaire which took the form of cross-sectional survey. Results of the smart partial least squares – structural equation modelling (SmartPLS-SEM) analysis reveal that business networking ties mediates the relationship between entrepreneurship and poverty reduction. It shows that the more collaborations among entrepreneurs, the better their living condition. Thus, this may encourage building of networking ties among entertainers or businessmen or entrepreneurs and equally guide policymakers to initiate policies that may boost networking ties among entrepreneurs
THE EFFECT OF UTILIZATION OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY ON ORGANIZATIONAL PERFORMANCE IN KADUNA STATE, NIGERIA
The study objectives are to examine the effect of utilization of Information Technology on Organizational performance in Kaduna Geographic information Service Kaduna State, Nigeria. A total of 191 questionnaires were retrieved from the respondents of the study and distributed using the simple random sampling technique. The questionnaires were screened, and only 163 returned questionnaires were qualified for further analysis. The Descriptive, and inferential statistic was used to analyzed the data, using Statistic Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 25. Findings reveal that Information technology operation has a positive, and significant effect on organizational performance, just as information technology usage has a positive, and significant effect on organizational performance. Therefore, findings showed that the variable of information technology challenges did not significantly contribute to that joint significant effect. However, the variables of information technology operation and information technology usage significantly contributed to the model involving information technology and organizational performance with adjusted R2 of 0.797 which signifies that information technology accounted for 79.7% change or variation in the organizational performance, thus the information technology usage has a joint significant effect on organizational performance. Finally, the study recommends that workshop should be organized in order to train employees on how to operate and work with GIS. Besides, the employees are to be properly trained on specialized skill sets to understand and interpret information collected in a GIS, so as to increase their performance
EFFECT OF BUSINESS AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF SECRETARIAL MINDSET GROWTH IN NIGERIA
The main objective of this study was to determine the effect of business and personal attributes on the development of secretarial mind-set growth in Nigeria. To this end, 3 research objective and 3 null hypotheses were raised for the study. A descriptive survey was selected for the study and a population of 224 secretarial staff in Zaria metropolis, Kaduna state. The entire population was used as the sample size of the study, due to its limited number. The instrument for data collection was a questionnaire titled ‘‘Business and Personal Attributes on the Secretarial Mind Set Growth in Nigeria’’ was used as the instrument for data collection. All the three null hypotheses were tested at 0.05 levels of significance using Regression Analysis. The study reveals among others; business and personal attributes has significant effect on the secretarial mind-set growth in Nigeria. In line with these it was concluded that Business and Personal Attributes are fundamental to an effective and sufficient service delivery among secretaries/office managers in any organization. It was recommended among others that the That the Secretaries should appear and act professionally when dealing with their bosses, colleagues, visitors and the general public and this will go a long way in protecting the image of the profession thereby improving secretarial mind-set growth in Nigeria
JOB SECURITY AND LECTURERS PERFORMANCE IN THE TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS, A STUDY OF EDO STATE POLYTECHNIC, USEN, EDO STATE
Staff job security has become a challenge to the management and staff of tertiary institutions in Nigeria. Most of the tertiary institutions in Nigeria have high number of causal, adjunt or temporary staff thus affecting the staff performance because of the unsecured employment. This study examined the effect of job security on lecturers’ job performance, with special reference to Edo state polytechnic, Usen, Edo state. A survey research design was adopted. The population is three hundred and ten (310) and all were used as the sample size. Data was analyzed using descriptive statistics and regression analyses. The findings revealed that job security, satisfaction and development have positive and significant effect on lecturers’ performance (teaching, research, community service and supportive activities) in Edo State Polytechnic, Usen. The study recommended state government and the management of the institution should try to permanent lecturers whose employment has not been permanent in-order to improve their performance in the institute
Perceived Organisational Justice and Employee Commitment: The Role of Organisational trust among Academic Staff in Nigeria
Employee commitment is sacrosanct to achieving strategic organisational goals and objectives. The study explored the mediating role of organisational trust in the relationship between perceived organisation justice and employee commitment among academic staff of Federal Polytechnic Kaura-Namoda and Federal College of Education (Technical), Gusau Zamfara state. The study is quantitative in approach employing both survey and cross-sectional research designs. The sample of 232 was used out of the population of 936 academic staff of these institutions. A self-administered questionnaire was utilised to solicit response from the respondents using a stratified random sampling technique. The study used Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) to run the preliminary analyses while Structural Equation Model (SEM) was used to run the measurement and structural models. The findings revealed that distributive justice and procedural justice have significant and positive effect on employee commitment. Furthermore, organisational trust significantly partially mediated the relationship between distributive justice and employee commitment. Similarly, organisational trust significantly partially mediated the relationship between procedural justice and employee commitment. The study recommended that the institutions management should ensure that the procedure through which decisions affecting the employees are equitable and fair
MODERATING EFFECT OF CAPITAL ADEQUACY ON THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN FINANCIAL RISKS AND FINANCIAL PERFORMANCE OF MFBS IN NIGERIA
This study is focused on the moderating effect of capital adequacy on the relationship between financial risk and financial performance. In order to establish the relationship between financial risk and financial performance of MFBs in Nigeria secondary data was collected covering the period of seven years from 2014 to 2020. The study focused on National MFBs. Descriptive and panel regression analysis was employed to establish relationship between financial risks and financial performance of MFBs in Nigeria. Result of the regression analysis shows that the moderated relationship between capital adequacy and credit risk, and liquidity risk, was found to be negative and significant. This clearly shows that the interaction between the capital adequacy on credit risk and liquidity risk is significantly impacting the financial performance of National MFBs in Nigeria. Same can be said of the moderating effects of capital adequacy ratio on liquidity risk and interest rate risk. While the moderated relationship between capital adequacy ratio and interest rate risk was found to be negative but insignificant which shows that the interaction between capital adequacy and interest rate risk does not have significant impact on financial performance of MFBs in Nigeria
NON-MATERIAL CULTURE INFLUENCE ON MANAGERIAL PERFORMANCE OF HOTELS IN YENAGOA CITY, BAYELSA STATE, NIGERIA
This research work was intended to examine non-material culture and the influence on managerial performance of hotels in Yenagoa city, Bayelsa State, Nigeria. The survey research design was adopted in this research work. While 98 managers and/or respondents constituted the sample size and this was randomly selected from 98 selected private hotels in Yenagoa city, Bayelsa State. A 20 item instrument titled “Influence of Non-material Culture on Managerial Performance Scale” (INCMPS) validated by two research expert and obtained a reliability coefficient that stood at 0.731 and this was used to collect data that was thereafter analyzed. The study revealed that: values influenced customer’s satisfaction (F8, 89=31.146, p<.05), and profitability (F8, 89=19.317, p<.05) While language influenced customer’s satisfaction (F8, 89=58.655, p<.05), and profitability (F8, 89=57.592, p<.05). The study recommends among others that: Managers should actively and effectively communicate and support the shared values of the organization. Managers should understand the language of their business environment and create innovations that will enhance customer satisfaction, profitability cum managerial performance and managers should epitomize the values, good use of language, believes and behaviours related with the non-material culture of the organization. This study finally came to the conclusion that non-material culture and managerial performance has a positive, strong and significant relationship
