Experiences and effects of tokkatsu (student‐led activities) : Retrospective survey of university students
departmental bulletin pape
departmental bulletin pape
Endoscopic ligation with O-ring closure for mucosal defects after rectal endoscopic submucosal dissection : A feasibility study (with video)
香川大学Kagawa University博士(医学)Introduction: Mucosal defect closure after colorectal endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) may prevent post-ESD adverse events. Delayed bleeding is a particular concern in the rectum due to the presence of numerous blood vessels. However, rectal defect closure often fails due to the thick rectal wall. This study aimed to examine the feasibility of our newly developed endoscopic ligation with O-ring closure (E-LOC) for defects after rectal ESD.Methods: This was a prospective observational study conducted at a single institution. After excluding 2 patients with tumors mostly extending into the anal canal, the study cohort comprised 30 consecutive patients who underwent ESD of rectal neoplasms between July 2020 and July 2021. E-LOC using an endoscopic variceal ligation device was performed for closing mucosal defects after rectal ESD. The primary outcome was the complete closure rate. The secondary outcomes were the delayed bleeding rate, E-LOC procedure time, sustained closure rates on postoperative day (POD) 3, and E-LOC-associated complications. Results: Complete closure of the defect (median defect size 29.0 mm) was successfully achieved in 24 cases (80%). Delayed bleeding occurred in one case with incomplete closure (3.3%). The median E-LOC procedure time was 25.5 min (interquartile range, 20.0–30.0 min). The sustained closure rates were 83.3% (20/24) on POD 3 in the 24 cases with complete closure. No E-LOC-associated complications occurred.Discussion/Conclusions: E-LOC was feasible for defect closure after rectal ESD, and probably led to a decreased incidence of delayed bleeding.doctoral thesi
Attracting Chestnut Tiger (Parantica sita) in central Takamatsu City, Kagawa Prefecture, Japan
The Chestnut Tiger(Parantica sita)is a species of butterfly that is classified in the subfamily Danainae of the family Nymphalidae. It is a relatively large butterfly, with an open tail of about 10 cm, and is known for its long-distance ‘migration’. In April 2022, the authors set up a flower bed of about 8.5 m² in a park in Mineyama-cho, Takamatsu City, and planted about 60 seedlings of fragrant eupatorium(Eupatorium japonicum). This plant is considered to have high induction potential. The aim was to attract Chestnut Tigers. In October of the same year, a total of approximately a dozen Chestnut Tigers were observed on fragrant eupatorium in full bloom. Previous records and confirmations in the city are also presented, as they may contribute to understanding the prosperity and decline of this species.journal articl
Age‑related brainstem degeneration through microRNA modulation in mice
香川大学Kagawa University博士(医学)Histopathological changes occur in the brainstem during the early stages of Alzheimer's disease (AD), with the pathological changes of the brain lesions ascending progressively in accordance with the Braak staging system. The senescence‑accelerated mouse prone 8 (SAMP8) mouse model has been previously used as a model of age‑dependent neurodegenerative diseases, including AD. In the present study, microRNAs (miRNAs) that were upregulated or downregulated in SAMP8 brainstems were identified using miRNA profiling of samples obtained from miRNA arrays. The preliminary stage of cognitive dysfunction was examined using male 5‑month‑old SAMP8 mice, with age‑matched senescence‑accelerated mouse resistant 1 mice as controls. A Y‑maze alternation test was performed to assess short‑term working memory and miRNA profiling was performed in each region of the dissected brain (brainstem, hippocampus and cerebral cortex). SAMP8 mice tended to be hyperactive, but short‑term working memory was preserved. Two miRNAs were upregulated (miR‑491‑5p and miR‑764‑5p) and two were downregulated (miR‑30e‑3p and miR‑323‑3p) in SAMP8 brainstems. In SAMP8 mice, the expression level of upregulated miRNAs were the highest in the brainstem, wherein age‑related brain degeneration occurs early. It was demonstrated that the order of specific miRNA expression levels corresponded to the progression order of age‑related brain degeneration. Differentially expressed miRNAs regulate multiple processes, including neuronal cell death and neuron formation. Changes in miRNA expression may result in the induction of target proteins during the early stages of neurodegeneration in the brainstem. These findings suggest that studying altered miRNA expression may provide molecular evidence for early age‑related neuropathological changes.doctoral thesi
