Midwifery Education in Bhutan: Challenges and Way Forward
Get PDFMidwifery plays a central role in ensuring safe and respectful childbirth. Education of midwives in Bhutan began in the 1960s and it is still evolving. With only few institutions offering nursing and midwifery training, the country faces challenges in ensuring there are enough skilled midwives to meet the demand. In addition, midwifery education is integrated into the nursing curriculum, for just six months which falls short of International Confederation of Midwives （ICM） recommended curriculum of 18 months for nurse-midwives and 36 months for direct entry midwives. Also, the retention of the trained midwives remains a concern as many health workers, including the midwives are leaving the country in search of better opportunities abroad. To address these issues, assessing midwifery competency and identifying gaps in care could help improve improve policy decisions regarding midwifery education and workforce management in the country．

Get PDF香川大学インターナショナルオフィスを受入れ機関、フィンランド、ヘルシンキにあるムンッキニエミ中等教育学校を送出し機関として、さくらサイエンスプログラム科学技術体験コースを実施した。香川という土地の特性を踏まえ、自然環境や生態系と人間の生活・産業・文化とのつながりについて学ぶプログラムとして設定し、オンラインによる事前研修も含め、講義とフィールドワークを組み合わせた活動とした。またインターナショナルオフィスが培ってきた地域連携と高大連携の取り組みを活かして、地元の高校生や企業との交流も行った。
外国の高校と地方国立大学との連携は、地方における大学のみならず、中等教育におけるグローバル教育の展開に有効な方策となりうる。今回のプログラムを単発のイベントとて終わらせるのではなく、このプログラム実施にあたっての過程で培われた種々の知見やつながりを今後の継続的交流につなげることが重要である。departmental bulletin pape

Myosin-Ie drives ruffle-edge lamellipodia formation and motility in A549 invasive lung cancer cells
No full textLamellipodia are generally defined as thin, sheet-like cell protrusions that constitute the actin cytoskeleton-based motile apparatus, which promotes the movement of migrating cells. Recently, we identified a novel type of lamellipodia, termed ruffle-edge lamellipodia, which have α-actinin-4 (ACTN4)-enriched multilayer membrane folds at their leading edges in certain invasive cancer cell lines. In this study, the role of unconventional myosin-Ie (Myo1E) in ACTN4-enriched ruffle-edge lamellipodia was analyzed using live-cell, immunofluorescence, and scanning electron microscopy. Immunofluorescence microscopy for endogenous Myo1E and live-cell imaging of mApple-Myo1E expressing cells showed that Myo1E was localized to ACTN4-rich lamellipodia tips in A549 cells. The wound healing assay and live-cell movies showed that Myo1E siRNA knockdown significantly suppressed cell migration and ruffle-edge lamellipodia formation. Furthermore, scanning electron microscopy demonstrated that Myo1E knockdown significantly reduced ruffle-edge structures. These results suggest that Myo1E may play an important role not only in the motility of ruffle-edge lamellipodia but also in the construction of ruffle-edge structures, which are probably associated with cancer cell invasion and metastasis.journal articl

発酵ハト麦エキスがラットの高ショ糖・低タンパク質誘発性脂肪肝に及ぼす影響
Get PDF脂肪肝とは，肝臓に脂質，特に中性脂肪が異常に蓄積した状態である。脂肪肝は栄養過多によって引き起こされることが多いが，摂食障害，不適切なダイエット，高齢者の長期にわたる栄養不足も脂肪肝の原因となることが知られている。これらは主にタンパク質の摂取不足が原因と考えられている。近年，ある種のアミノ酸の摂取が脂肪肝に有効であることが報告されている。発酵ハト麦エキス（FAE）は，アミノ酸を豊富に含む流動食のひとつであり，タンパク質構成アミノ酸として分岐鎖アミノ酸やアラニンを多く含むことから，栄養補助食品として期待されている。本研究では，高ショ糖・低タンパク誘発性脂肪肝モデルラットにおいて，脂肪肝に対するFAEの効果を検討した。しかし，FAEは高ショ糖・低タンパク誘発性脂肪肝を抑制するどころか，むしろ悪化させた。FAEは必須アミノ酸であるトリプトファンを欠くため，低タンパク質条件下では，FAE由来のアミノ酸が体内のタンパク質に利用されず，結果として肝臓に脂肪として蓄積された可能性がある。FAEをサプリメントとして使用する場合は，高品質のタンパク質と同時に摂取すべきかも知れない。Fatty liver is a condition in which the liver shows an abnormal accumulation of lipids, particularly triglycerides. Fatty liver is often caused by overnutrition. Eating disorders, inappropriate dieting, and prolonged undernutrition in the elderly are known to cause fatty liver; these are thought to be primarily due to an inadequate protein intake. Recently, it has been reported that the intake of certain amino acids is effective against fatty liver disease. Fermented adlay extract（FAE）is a liquid food rich in amino acids. Because FAE contain high amounts of branched-chain amino acids and alanine as protein constituent amino acids, they are expected to be used as dietary supplements, but no cases of disease prevention or treatment have been reported. In this study, we investigated the effects of FAEs on hepatic triglyceride accumulation in a rat model of high-sucrose, low-protein-induced fatty liver. However, dietary FAE exacerbates rather than suppresses high-sucrose, low-protein-induced fatty liver disease. Because FAE lacks the essential amino acid tryptophan, it is possible that under low-protein conditions, the amino acids derived from FAE are not utilized by body proteins and consequently accumulated as fat in the liver. If FAE is to be used as a supplement, it should be consumed simultaneously with high-quality proteins.departmental bulletin pape

Get PDF教員多忙化問題について三大学合同で授業（合同ゼミ）を実施した。この授業の特徴は，法学または教育学を専門とする教員および教育現場・行政での実務経験を持つ教員が協働し，法学を教養ないし専門的に学ぶ三学部の学生が長時間労働をはじめとする教員多忙化問題について，法的視点を交えながら検討する場を設けたことにある。本授業を実施した結果，この問題に関する受講生の疑問や不安は一定程度解消されたが，課題も残された。departmental bulletin pape
