    Schritt für Schritt zur Zerspanungs-KI

    No full text

ROStopbox: A Human-Centered Vehicle Environment Data Acquisition System

As the development towards fully automated driving continues, passenger trust in automation and human well-being when using advanced driver assistance systems will become increasingly important. To support the existing data-driven development process, systems for acquiring perceptual data such as from camera and LiDAR along with physiological and subjective information will be required in the future. The simultaneous recording of physiological signals alongside data from traditional perception sensors can therefore help to identify scenarios in which passengers are stressed, have an increased workload, or feel unsafe. By recording questionnaires in parallel, it is possible to also correlate the physiological signals with passengers' subjective perception. The combination of these signal sources makes it possible to identify causes of drivers' increased workload in the environmental data, describe development targets, and safeguard rules for future assistance systems and automated driving functions, keeping humans in the loop. Here, we present an approach for the simultaneous acquisition of sensor information from multiple domains such as physiological measurement data, environmental sensors, vehicle-internal communication, and subjective questionnaires, paying attention to an unobtrusive measurement setup. We demonstrate the benefits of our approach by identifying a relevant scenario in real traffic conditions in which we observe the impact on the driver's physiological parameter

Modelling of seasonal borehole thermal energy storages and integration into a power plant simulation environment

    No full text
This paper presents an analytical method for calculating the thermal behaviour of borehole heat exchangers and borehole thermal energy storages under the boundary condition of a constant inlet temperature. An analytical model based on the use of g-functions is set up for this purpose. Due to the small difference in g-functions for different boundary conditions within short observation times, the analytical model can be verified with a simple numerical model. In addition, the numerical model is used to evaluate the thermal capacity of a borehole thermal energy storage with 80 boreholes. The analytical model is coupled to the EBSILON® Professional power plant simulation environment. In future, this connection should make it possible to simulate borehole thermal energy storages with high-temperature heat pumps

Packaging Material Use Efficiency of Commercial PET and Glass Bottles for Mineral Water

    No full text
The influence of the bottle material (glass, PET), the reusability (reusable and disposable bottles), and the carbonization (still, medium, classic mineral water) on the filling ratio, packaging material use efficiency, cost, and shelf life were evaluated. Two hundred different bottles were purchased and characterized regarding their filling volume, the weight of the bottle, the weight of the closure, the weight of the label, and the maximum full-rim volume of the bottle. The packaging material use efficiency was calculated. The shelf life was evaluated by calculating the water vapor and carbon dioxide transmission rates. The ratio of filling volume to the packaging weight of disposable PET bottles was, on average, two times higher compared to returnable PET bottles and 20 times higher compared to glass bottles. Shelf life was, on average, higher than factor two for glass bottles compared to PET bottles. On average, but not in all cases, mineral water packaged in disposable PET bottles was cheaper compared to reusable PET and glass bottles. This paper provides a benchmark for the packaging community, especially when data for life cycle assessment are required, and the different advantages and disadvantages of different bottle materials for mineral water are shown

New ways of aid coordination: results of an implementation study on the digitalization of neighborhood assistance for the older adults

    No full text
As a recent study shows, primary caregivers spend an average of 49 hours per week caring for and supporting dependent relatives. At the same time, these caregivers are exposed to high levels of stress, which can lead to impairments in their own life satisfaction and health. Therefore, voluntary assistance for the older adults is gaining increasing importance, as it supports aging in their own homes and assists caregiving relatives in their duties. (Schwinger & Zok, 2024) Given the decreasing and exhausted family care potentials and resources, there are increasing calls for voluntary assistance services. However, the number of volunteers is limited, which, together with rising demands for help, leads to an availability problem. A promising solution to this problem lies in the use of digital platforms, which are intended to improve the organization and coordination of assistance services. Although there are high expectations for these platforms, there is a lack of empirical evidence on how such digital matching platforms may be sustainably implemented and what specific impacts they have on the efficiency and effectiveness of voluntary assistance services in a local area. The project 'Implementation and Engagement-Promoting Potentials of a Digital Solution for Assistance Matching for older adults' (IPot) accompanies the implementation process of a digital platform in a rural neighborhood assistance network in southern Germany. The central research question is: What factors and conditions promote the successful implementation of a digital solution for the matching of helpers for the older adults? In addition to evaluating practical and process-related implementation elements, the focus is also on examining the benefits of the digital solution in terms of its engagement-promoting effects

This work contains the process of having implemented DART (Dynamic Animation and Robotics Toolkit), an open source physics engine, usually used mainly for robotics, into MABE (Modular Agent-Based Evolution platform), a tool to evolve and analyze digital brains, using C++. This added much desired complexity to the system which allows the Hintze Lab to further research evolution and added new ways in which they can do so. Furthermore, the resulting software package was used to run a series of experiments in this work, which will then be analyzed and compared

Abschlussbericht Studie: „DiVa – Digitale Versorgungsanwendungen“

    No full text
Background: Digital technologies are considered to have great potential not only in inpatient care contexts, but also in the private home care sector. As a result, family carers are becoming a target group for digital services. Although family caregivers have heterogeneous needs and life situations, they are just as often confronted with similar challenges: navigating through a wilderness of care-related information, landscape of services and advice and how to access them as well as a high organisational and time-consuming effort to coordinate care. To address family caregivers’ needs, also in the German context digital services to provide support with these activities are increasingly available. Research question: The research project "DiVa" examined a German mobile app that provides information and functions for organising home care. The aim was to identify which of the app’s functions are (not) used in real life care settings and why. Moreover, a goal was to find out in which informal care constellations people benefit from digital support and for whom and for which tasks the digital tool meets caregivers’ needs. Method: In the period 09/2022 – 08/2023, a freely available smartphone app was used over several months in real-life settings by 16 informal carers, who assist an older person. Two qualitative, guided interviews were conducted with each participant (before and after using the app). The analysis was carried out with content analysis according to Kuckartz. Results: The results show a discrepancy between a generally positive assessment of the app and its functions on the one hand and low usage behaviour or hardly perceived relief on the other. In this context, the point in time within the care biography, at which the participants use the app, is of great importance. For example, informal carers who have been caring for their relatives for a longer period of time hardly experience any relief through the use of the app – compared to the already established processes and familiar information channels in everyday care. A potential added value and relief through the app is seen at the beginning of a care takeover. Overall, the app was used sporadically and satisfaction with the provided information depended on the individual care situation, among other things. The participants pointed out adjustments that have not yet been integrated but would be desirable, e. g. regional information. Conclusion: The results show the importance of early knowledge of digital technologies: For digital support options to develop the desired potential, those involved in informal care must be aware of them at an early stage. A key challenge is to inform informal carers about the existence and possibilities of digital care applications at an early stage. Other prerequisites for care apps to be widely accepted by the target group include a trustworthy presentation of the content, the ability to customise it and that it is up-to-date. The findings can provide valuable insights into the design and implementation of digital solutions for home care, particularly in addressing the needs and expectations of informal caregivers
