Applying Implicit Association Test Techniques and Facial Expression Analyses in the Comparative Evaluation of Website User Experience
No full textThis research project has the goal to verify whether the application of neuromarketing techniques, such as implicit association test (IAT) techniques and emotional facial expressions analyses may contribute to the assessment of user experience (UX) during and after website navigation. These techniques have been widely and positively applied in assessing customer experience (CX); however, little is known about their simultaneous application in the field of UX. As a specific context, the experience raised by different websites from two well-known automotive brands was compared. About 160 Italian university students were enrolled in an online experimental study. Participants performed a Brand Association Reaction Time Test (BARTT) version of the IAT where the two brands were compared according to different semantic dimensions already used in the automotive field. After completing the BARTT test, the participants navigated the target website: 80 participants navigated the first brand website, while the other half navigated the second brand website (between-subject design). During the first 3 min of website navigation, emotional facial expressions were recorded. The participants were asked to freely navigate the website home page, look for a car model and its characteristics and price, use the customising tool, and in the end, look for assistance. After the website navigation, all the participants performed, a second time, the BARTT version of the IAT, where the two brands were compared again, this time to assess whether the website navigation may impact the Implicit Associations previously detected. A traditional evaluation of the two websites was carried on by means of the classic heuristic evaluation. Findings from this study show, first of all, the significant results provided by neuromarketing techniques in the field of UX, as IAT can provide a positive application for assessing UX played by brand websites, thanks to the comparison of eventual changes in time reaction between the test performed before and after website navigation exposure. Secondly, results from emotional facial expression analyses during the navigation of both brand websites showed significant differences between the two brands, allowing the researchers to predict the emotional impact raised by each website. Finally, the positive correlation with heuristic evaluation shows that neuromarketing can be successfully applied in UX.Published articl
Simulating a stellar contact binary merger – I. Stellar models
No full textWe study the initial conditions of a common envelope (CE) event resulting in a stellar merger. A merger’s dynamics could be understood through its light curve, but no synthetic light curve has yet been created for the full evolution. Using the smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) code STARSMASHER, we have created three-dimensional (3D) models of a 1.52 M⊙ star that is a plausible donor in the V1309 Sco progenitor. The integrated total energy profiles of our 3D models match their initial one-dimensional (1D) models to within a 0.1 per cent difference in the top 0.1 M⊙ of their envelopes. We have introduced a new method for obtaining radiative flux by linking intrinsically optically thick SPH particles to a single stellar envelope solution from a set of unique solutions. For the first time, we calculated our 3D models’ effective temperatures to within a few per cent of the initial 1D models, and found a corresponding improvement in luminosity by a factor of ≳106 compared to ray tracing. We let our highest resolution 3D model undergo Roche lobe overflow with a 0.16 M⊙ point-mass accretor (P ≃ 1.6 d) and found a bolometric magnitude variability amplitude of ∼0.3 – comparable to that of the V1309 Sco progenitor. Our 3D models are, in the top 0.1 M⊙ of the envelope and in terms of total energy, the most accurate models so far of the V1309 Sco donor star. A dynamical simulation that uses the initial conditions we presented in this paper can be used to create the first ever synthetic CE evolution light curve.Original manuscript prior to peer review (preprint

Get PDFCelso Monteio Furtado (Celso Furtado), nasceu em 26 de julho de 1920, em Pombal (Paraíba), e faleceu em 20 de novembro de 2004, no Rio de Janeiro. Filho de Maurício de Medeiros Furtado, de família de magistrados, e de Maria Alice Monteiro Furtado, de família de proprietários de terra. Foi casado com a jornalista Rosa Freire d`Aguiar. Fez os seus estudos secundários no Liceu Paraibano, em João Pessoa, e no Ginásio Pernambucano, no Recife. Bacharel em Direito pela Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (1944), Doutor em Economia (1948) pela Universidade de Paris (Sorbonne). Estudos de pós-graduação na Universidade de Cambridge, Inglaterra (1957), sendo Fellow do King`s College. Participou da Força Expedicionária Brasileira durante a Segunda Guerra Mundial. Foi Técnico de Administração do Governo Brasileiro (1944-45), colaborador da Fundação Getúlio Vargas (1948-49), labutou como Diretor da Divisão de Desenvolvimento da CEPAL (1949-57), contribuiu de forma decisiva, ao lado do economista argentino Raúl Prebish, para a formulação do enfoque da realidade socioeconômica da América Latina e como diretor do Banco Nacional do Desenvolvimento Econômico (BNDE) (1958-59) e também elaborou o Plano de Desenvolvimento do Nordeste, que deu lugar à criação da SUDENE, órgão que dirigiu por cinco anos (1959-64). A obra, fruto dessa resenha, foi publicada primeiramente em 1961, está dividida em duas partes e subdividido em seis capítulos, onde primeiro retrata o desenvolvimento (de modo geral, a teoria desenvolvimento econômico do que trata a primeira parte da obra traz explicação em uma perspectiva macroeconômica..
A RELAÇÃO ENTRE FINANCEIRIZAÇÃO E PRODUTIVIDADE:: UMA ANÁLISE PARA O BRASIL APÓS 1980
Get PDFA financeirização ganhou espaço na economia mundial junto com o neoliberalismo e a globalização. De acordo com esta teoria, os países se beneficiariam na parte produtiva da abertura das economias ao capital estrangeiro. Entretanto, de acordo com alguns estudos, se verifica que isso não ocorre nas economias subdesenvolvidas. Portanto, o objetivo do estudo é verificar como se desenvolveu a relação entre o lado produtivo da economia brasileira e o capital especulativo advindo da liberalização financeira na década de 1980. Entre os resultados obtidos se verificou que a partir desta década o desempenho produtivo do país passou a ser inferior ao anterior, indicando que a financeirização da economia brasileira teve como consequência negativa a piora do lado produtivo em detrimento do lado especulativo e financeiro, característicos de uma dependência em relação ao capital estrangeiro
